    Hey You! Interesting way to do yabbies. Bit of garlic butter instead of oil before you turn them would work a treat I would think. Love your work

      @@robbiefishing i reckon Trevor is spot on Robbie! You could even add the butter to the oil before cooking, the oil will stop the butter from burning and the flavour will be right through the Yabbies. My mouth is still watering though mate.

      Thanks Moo Moo. They were very nice, but to be honest I think I prefer them just boiled naturally. Both great, but sometimes the flavour is just too good to mask.

    Nice cook-up. You'll need to have a go doing a Louisiana style crawdad/crayfish boil with yabbies- it includes lots of spices, sweet corn on the cob, new potatoes, sausage (like kabanna), onions, capsicums, and the yabbies. You could even do an Aussie version with a bit of Vegemite in the boil.

I'm so jealous its miserable over here in Ireland going to minus 6° over the next few days at least its stopped raining. Oh I'd love to be there with you eating them yabbies in the sunshine.     Definitely gonna give this a go. I’ve always boiled yabbies and a few years ago someone suggested squirting a bit of wasabi into mayo and mixing it up as a dipping sauce. They weren’t wrong!

    Super good like that but I add all purpose seasoning and butter. And sometimes missed garlic .super yummy. Just remember not alone of seasoning just a little. You'll be drooling for more .LOL

    Try this Robbo, satay your yabbies with chopped garlic and onion first then cook in Mountain Dew, 7up or Fanta lemonade its absolutely delicious Robbo, Filipina recipe used with their prawns.

    Great video Robbie the new pond looks like a really good place to get yabbys they were some big yabbys in their the cooking look fantastic .how long do you fry the yabbys .im going to try this with our crawdads hope it turns out as good as yours .thanks Robbie .

      Thanks so much for your kind words Tim. I can't remember exactly how long I cooked them for. I cooked them until I thought they looked cooked. LOL It was probably 4 or 5 minutes each side which was probably too long. Haha

    mate, definitely butter hold a stick of it over the pan and let it drip onto the meat, also crack the claws a little before you put them in the pan so it cooks through alot quicker

      No mate, I couldn't. I never taste the mud in yabbies. The only thing I ever taste is the food of the heavens. Haha

    If you cook them a little slower throw in some garlic, butter and diced shallots. Throw a 1/4 cup of water in and drop a lid on it when you turn them over.

      Thanks mate, that sounds great, but way over my head. I seriously wouldn't even know where to buy shallots at the supermarket. LOL Are they in the fruit and veg section?
      This is why I don't do very many catch and cook videos, because I'm a terrible cook. Haha

      @@robbiefishing "spring onions'? Same same, but different. lol. My mum always insistead that all of us kids learn to cook. Part of it was that it made her life a bit easier day to day, but we all ended up doing fairly well for ourselves. Also the ladies tend to like it ;) It's amazing what you can do with a tin of diced tomatoes, 2 minute noodles and an old snag. Seperately they aren't much, but together you've got a bit of a feed.

    Mate I'm just through the door and I could eat the back leg of a horse,, after watching I almost licking the fridge door 🤪....
    One for you to try when you have time .....
    Half a cup of spring onions
    Half a chilli hot or mild
    Tablespoon of oil
    Salt n pepper mix to taste
    Also I crack the claws and this does the trick....

    Hi Robbie. Check out how fellow Aussie UA-cam Dean Evans does Balmain/Morton Bay bugs. My suggestion would be to use butter or margarine not oil, fry flesh side first then flip and baste with garlic or herb butter (I use garlic and chives or parsley or both). Delicious!

    Old school from back in the days where it wasn't a decent catch unless you had at least a wheatbag full of yabbies. So boiling was the only real option. Having said that, it would be over 20 years since I had a decent feed of yabbies. Might be time for a trip back to the Wimmera for a feed.

      I remember many years ago... Lake Albacutya had been dry for many years and they did a soil sample and found a layers of yabbies in suspended animation about 4-5 foot down.

      They're very popular with hikers all around the world. They have a lot of benefits for hiking. They don't freeze unlike gas stoves. You know exactly how much fuel you have and don't have to carry an extra gas cylinder just in case, AND.... They're VERY hot. Excellent for melting snow.
