I heard a sermon this year where the priest said he really liked how his first couple of sermons went. Then he gave one he felt wasn't really very good. The next week someone came up to him and thanked him, because it had been exactly what she needed to hear and it turned her away from her plan to commit suicide.

The phone company used to send me to Raleigh to go to school there ,when it was a two week school Id go to that church and I loved it with all the pine trees around it and yes it was huge : ) ( been over 20 some years ago )
No kneelers and Jesus isn’t on the cross?! I’ll be converting at the Easter Vigil, and I love those distinctly Catholic features that can’t really be found in any Protestant Church.
Daniel Willis Kneelers are very common in the United States but are a fairly recent invention in the history of the Church. Kneeling, itself, is a penitential act, and so it was not a part of the liturgy for many years (and is still sparsely used in other parts of the world.) If you go to the Vatican or have mass at St. John Lateran, you will not see any kneelers (or pews, for that matter, as Protestants invented pews.) The cross is a rather monastic image, and frankly, I would prefer the crucifix as well, but it is still distinctly Catholic in the way it is presented.
Breaking In The Habit Kneeling is much more an act of adoration than it is penitence, and I think it's even more an act of supplication than it is one of penitence. Striking one's breast is an act of penitence, as we do when praying 'Through my fault, through my fault, through my own most grievous fault' in the Penitential Act. The point is, actions are outward shows of inward beliefs. And as for the argument that certain practices and traditions did not exist at certain points in church history, we should realize that our understanding of these things has developed over time, similarly to how doctrine may develop over history. I have been to St. Francis of Assisi parish in Raleigh. I was amazed at the numbers of diverse people there to worship and the number who serve in ministries, sharing the leadership roles in their community. I was happily moved to see so many children going up every aisle to their special Liturgy of the Word. All ages, all people, all are welcome--and Christ is embracing and embraced.

rauch1980 Rauch I live in an island where a parish has 1 priest and some priests have 2 parishes, but I know some of the neighbour islands share priests. I had only been to 2 other neighbour islands, and this summer I went on a trip with my local church to an island I've never been to before, and a priest there had to fly to an island for a homily, he's in charge of other islands' parishes!! I asked a seminarian how many seminarians studied there and they're around 20 seminarians for 8 islands, and the Island I live in has around 360 parishes!

Yeah I found that comment fascinating, haha. I come from a small Canadian city of 20,000+ people and there are only two Catholic parishes in town-- and one priest frantically running between them. Poor guy had a broken leg last time I was there, too; can't have been easy to get around. Even living in a massive Canadian city for the last several years, I've rarely seen two priests even visiting at once in the same parish (usually if it's a special occasion--and definitely only one of the priests is actually responsible for a given church, the other's just on vacation or something and sitting in (or a Bishop). Oh just thought of one exception: the cathedral of a major city). Was Brother Casey really saying that in the populated US it's common that multiple priests share responsibility for a single church? That sounds like... Heaven, haha. Such a blessing. I think part of this is a Canadian thing. I think I heard our bishop say we have to import most of our priests from other countries as-is, so it makes some sense that we have way fewer who are each responsible for way more.
Re homilies: at times I was so taken by the priests dedication, prayerfulness and love of Jesus Christ I forgot all a out what was said. It was just wonderful to witness a holy man.

Megan Greene It's Catholic. Just because it doesn't look like something from the medieval times doesn't mean it's not Catholic. The first mass wasn't celebrated in a gothic cathedral so if you want "traditional" then churches ought to look like a Roman Jewish banquet room. Architecture and aesthetics change, so even if this looks modern it doesn't mean it's not holy.

That’s actually a better way to do it, especially for kids. Because now, when you get down to the end, you have a stem to hold onto instead of having to take the banana out of the peel. Of course he broke off a piece which defeats the purpose, but oh well.
That WAS a very big church, but sadly, it didn't look very Catholic on the inside. It was heavy Anglican architecture and the cross on the altar was a Patriarchal cross, not the traditional Latin cross. IF this church is the seat of the Bishop, then the Patriarchal cross is permissible. I'm old and I guess I am just stuck on wanting to see the old Catholic architecture.

I would recommend studying the history of liturgy a bit more. The things you mention are actually among our oldest traditions and this church more resembles our oldest monastic churches. Kneelers are not required and, in fact, are not found at St. Peter’s or St John Lateran. The cross is a Catholic monastic cross. The tabernacle is in the side chapel, where the GIRM recommends that it be.

I didn't see that in the video when you showed the church and other churches you went. Another question is, can a brother deliver a mass? In Indonesia, only the priest (Pater or Father, we may say) who can deliver a mass. Brothers may give the Bread, but we don't say the whole liturgy as mass. Can you help me to understand more? The Church has variations based on local custom, but most of the laws and norms are the same. Kneeling is the general norm for parts of the mass worldwide, but it varies by region, and some churches do not kneel at all. Only an ordained priest or bishop may celebrate mass.
It’s both. There is a Church, but there is also a school, not to mention being the home of many Catholic organizations such as the Knights of Columbus and Secular Franciscans, making it a Catholic community that is more than just a church.

Elias, that is no longer the practice of the Church. Especially for priests that celebrate four masses in a row, the current practice is that an hour fast be observed before receiving communion.

It’s both. There is a Church, but there is also a school, not to mention being the home of many Catholic organizations such as the Knights of Columbus and Secular Franciscans, making it a Catholic community that is more than just a church.
Dear father Casey! I know how much you love God and people. I know how good your will is. I also don't deny that you do often good things. I know also that in many aspects you're doing everything correctly. I know that you're devoted to the franciscan charism. But I think that sometimes I should speak up, when I see you doing something bad. I don't mean to curse you and say taht you're lost. I don't want you to feel sorry. Dude why you eating banana during a fast before the mass. The euacharist used to be in such honor that people wouldnt eat 3hrs before or even from last midnight. :(
Elias, that is no longer the practice of the Church. Especially for priests that celebrate four masses in a row, the current practice is that an hour fast be observed before receiving communion.
