  • Single phase submicro brushless motor, made from rewound wristwatch coil wire and the A1442 speed controller ic chip. Magnet is .5mm x 1mm, smallest available, shaft from .007" music wire, hypodermic tubing for bearings. Propeller is 8 mm diameter, made from basswood. A complete build thread with many photos on this and other motors at westknoxrc.com and rcgroups.com, posted by "shagrug". Many more vids are posted at vimeo.com, in shagrug's folder there.

Very cool. This is more art/challenge than something functional but impressive nonetheless.

You would think so, but propellers and rotors at this size or even somewhat larger don't provide much lift. So very small planes and helicopters are pretty much fail and don't last very long.

Just need to figure out how to get a spider to generate the electricity necessary to run this, and a whole new hybrid heli-spider will go aloft! Maybe make an eight phase leg powered generator and glue the spider's feet to each lever?

  • @dasraiser

I'm imagining you are using the penny for its copper? Hint: Pennies pre-1984 are pure copper, after '84 they went to a plated alloy. I see yours is from 1999.
