- Single phase submicro brushless motor, made from rewound wristwatch coil wire and the A1442 speed controller ic chip. Magnet is .5mm x 1mm, smallest available, shaft from .007" music wire, hypodermic tubing for bearings. Propeller is 8 mm diameter, made from basswood. A complete build thread with many photos on this and other motors at westknoxrc.com and rcgroups.com, posted by "shagrug". Many more vids are posted at vimeo.com, in shagrug's folder there.

is this the upgraded Prius engine?
after like a minute into the video I realized what was turning, I was waiting for the penny to start turning! lol
"Honey, i swallowed my rc plane again..."
No matter how hard it tries it will never blow the penny out of the pliers.
Very cool. This is more art/challenge than something functional but impressive nonetheless.
Neat setup compairing your motor to a regular penny
Small brushless motors can have a pretty decent amount of torque.
Lincoln is trying to party like it's1999 because he's just that *shades* cool.
A penny fan. I bet every coin collector wants one for his prize collection. ;^)
Awesome stuff.
An air cooled penny. Marvellous!
Nice work!!
Lincolin likes his new desk fan :-) ~~x
That's perfect for the smallest airplane.
That is very impressive.
Beautiful
I bet that penny feels like a badass.
Damn nice tweezers!
so cool ... now we just need the small reciever, servos, ect.. to match
good job, Abe
then there's the expected "awwwwwwwww" of cuteness
So this is how the mint cleans there pennies!
thats one chill penny
That's a BIG PENNY lol
Very impressive ....... what next ? The gear box to go with it ?
Abe's personal fan.
You are awesome!
AMAZING.
UA-cam doesn't let you post links, but the build thread is located on the westknoxrc website. Just search for submicro and you'll find it.
He must be a wizard
WOW.. that penny is HUGE! ;))
truely cool!
i felt that breeze all the way over here.
Super cool
For the win!
Excellent work. Thanks. Is there an opposite application for this---perhaps worlds smallest wind/electric generator?
I think so.
that is one clean penny....
brilliant
i wonder how fast that thing heats up hahaha
you can increase efficiency if you use a pre 1982 copper penny, instead of the zinc ones.
Giving Abraham a Blowback
If you want to see how he did it, just Google Build thread: submicro brushless motors
@shagittome
You would think so, but propellers and rotors at this size or even somewhat larger don't provide much lift. So very small planes and helicopters are pretty much fail and don't last very long.
Just need to figure out how to get a spider to generate the electricity necessary to run this, and a whole new hybrid heli-spider will go aloft! Maybe make an eight phase leg powered generator and glue the spider's feet to each lever?
that's sweet, do you think going smaller you would need to make some kind of silicone magnet field? like FETs, if that's even possible.
Tha potential applications of such a motor, is to power up VERY small things
theres been a new moter created that can fit i think about 50,000 times over the head of a pin
just puttin it out there
does the penny serve a purpose to the little motor or is it just to help the camera focus ?
now you just need to make a small model plane for it and you can fly it!!
The penny plays no part in the actual function of the motor, it's just used as reference for us to see how small it is.
now someone will make a 1/1000 scale R/C car
Wow! Practical applications?
Sweet, they should make nano rc's.
@VharStar isn't it run by the magnetic forces attracting/repelling the two atoms? i might have heard of that.
Can you make a tutorial?Nice vid
@ricksclick they are called helping hands :) nice tools for soldiering and other small electronics and mostlikely for a lot of other stuff too
Dude, youre NEVER gonna blow that penny out of the pliers, stop trying. ;)
i think scientists made a motor out of a molecule, cant remember which
can u plz tell me how u made this with steps
This will work awesome in my RC mosquito!
cool but, will it blend?
no matter how hard you try i dont think you will blow that coin away :(
I'm imagining you are using the penny for its copper? Hint: Pennies pre-1984 are pure copper, after '84 they went to a plated alloy. I see yours is from 1999.
plantraco here we come
NO IT IS LITERALLY THIS BIG
wow i want to build a tiny rc plane for my livingroom now lolz
By the way, UA-camrs, this video came out in 2009. So it is a bit outdated, because recently, scientists have developed a motor consisting of only two atoms.
Yeah. I'm not joking.
What are the potential applications of such a motor?
Where was your rotating core made of?
Nice motor for the might bacteria airforce
That thing's so tiny you could look at it and it would break.
@snowyseb More likely a Euro, this is also big in the Eastern block countries.
Why are you using a modern penny, which are made of zinc? Would it work better with a 1982 penny that is solid copper?
stay cool Abe
were did you get your vise grip!
i really need to get to bed!
But will it blend?
Were did you get that massive coin?
tambem tenho um mini motor desses. Uso com bateria de nokia, 3.7 volts. O ruim de motores tão pequenos é que esquentam demais.
cooling off the penny?? why did u heat it first?
how fast can it go
Put this into a little helicopter body that can fit on that penny and you'll be considered a GOD!
cool now i can dry my pennies !
Perfect for my pet mouse!!!
that made me laugh through the entire vid lol
@Thundadragoon we are talking brushless motors here, not molecules
it made my day when i saw your comment
Fan for computer cooling?
As processors and other integrated circuits gets smaller and smaller, fans has to keep up. ;)
Somebody has got WAYYY too much time in their hands haha
BrandonKD on their hands.
where can i get the A1442 ic chip?please help!!!!!!!!
i need one of these for my mouse-icopter
yes but was it brushless?
would you consider making an rc plane out of tinfoil, a stick and that motor. Be pretty swell
magnífico
@snowyseb funny how they seem to build the most inovative products.......
this must be what they use to build the fly size air plane and camera systems for spying
how many volts?????
how many of these can make an antonov 225 fly?
The coin is just there for comparison, right?
Where'd you get the giant penny? Lol.
@MrFoxPredator the penny is there for size comparision
