Yes, that's very likely on this song. Which is why that first strumming pattern sounds so good. For beginners, doing that many downs can be tricky from a speed perspective. If you can pull it off, do it!
Hey Lauren. I can't find any tutorials on any Joan Armatrading songs. I am a beginner but would love to try something by her. I particularly like, I really must be going '. If you could do a tutorial on that I would be so grateful. Thanks.
Hey, Lauren. Do yo have a video about how to practice playing single notes in sync - like when playing a scale and minimizing a gap between two notes so that the transition sounds nice?
Hey Steven, Thanks for the recommendation. I get lots of song requests so I cannot guarantee that I will get to it, but I will definitely add it to my list
Hi Lauren, I just love your teaching style. I'm a rank beginner and trying to learn basic chord changes. I find using the pick at this point is just too difficult. Should I even try strumming without one? BTW two friends who play have suggested I buy an inexpensive 3/4 size like the Yamaha JR 1. Would that help my short, arthritic fingers to get cleaner notes?
@@LaurenBateman Thanks for the fast reply and encouragement. I just bought a Fender FA 15 steel string 3/4 acoustic guitar. It feels comfortable but I now wonder if I should have specified nylon string. Is either better for a beginner? Thanks, Larry Goodson
That's a good question. I think it will come down to the muscle memory in your hands more. Do the best you can. Go slow. Might be a few weeks, but it's worth it!
Thank you. Mam I am a beginner right now but am looking towards learning all of buddy holly. Can you teach oh boy as well it's my favorite song and I sing it really well . Or at least I think I do. It is cool you teach classics . Thank you Lauren and keep teaching us. 😊😇
@@LaurenBateman FYI, I have learned about 5-6 songs with your videos. I’m 56 and started playing in May 2023.These apps and thing that advertise saying that you can’t learn from a UA-cam video are dead wrong.
Great, but just before the end of tuition, it would be helpfull to play it all the way through!! So annoying when you don't do this!! But thanks anyway!
@@LaurenBateman After the end of your tuition, then play the song all the way through please! Love you and thanks for the up loads, you are a lovely person and a great tuitionist!! Xxx
Worth pointing out that Holly used down strokes almost exclusively.

Holly played it as recorded with a capo at the 5th fret,.........easier to play and remember the chords that way.
@john emeigh The capo was just after the fourth fret,...before the fifth,......the fifth fret becomes the nut at that point
The Day The Music Died, Thank God it still lives on. Thank you Lauren. R.I.P. Buddy, Ritchie, JP & Roger ( Pilot )

Hey, Lauren. Do yo have a video about how to practice playing single notes in sync - like when playing a scale and minimizing a gap between two notes so that the transition sounds nice?
What you are talking about is playing legato. I don't have a video on that yet. Great suggestion.
Great video, Thanks! A simple song I would love you to do a lesson on could be Runaway Train by Soul asylum. I can't seem to get it right.
Hey Steven, Thanks for the recommendation. I get lots of song requests so I cannot guarantee that I will get to it, but I will definitely add it to my list
Good stuff. Can you do a performance of the song?
Hey Keith, thanks. I do sometimes do play alongs 😃

Hey, Lauren, just teach the leads for Richard Marx... Oceans apart ( right here waiting for you)
That's a great song.
How long will it take a hearing Impaired to learn this song I can sing it really well. But I'd like to play it.

Lauren is so beautiful.
Aww thanks Rusty. You're the best!
Love your videos but is this inaccurate in any other way? Are we supposed to alternate D and A

Under the Board walk. Can ya show this? Tia.
Ooo that's a good one

Kevin, you're right. It is annoying when I play through songs and they get reported to UA-cam or sometimes blocked completely.
