In this video, I will be going over how to play Landslide by Fleetwood Mac on acoustic guitar. This is going to be a fingerstyle guitar tutorial. This is very close to how Fleetwood Mac plays original. I know that the Smashing Pumpkins covered this song as well as the Dixie Chicks and it's pretty much all the same. I will be going over the Landslide guitar chords and well as the finger picking pattern to use over the verses and the choruses. If you have always wanted to learn how to play Landslide by Fleetwood Mac on the acoustic guitar, then this guitar tutorial is for you!

Lauren did an excellent teaching job here! If you can not just play but SING Landslide flawlessly, it does signal to me a guitar player who is evolving beyond intermediate level into early advanced level. With Travis picking, anyway! Then you're ready for Lindsey Buckingham's even trickier Travis picking song, "Never Going Back."
After a lot of practice (and getting frustrated with myself) I FINALLY nailed this today ❤ Thank you 😊
That's awesome!!!! Big win.
I’ve listened to this song for decades. I finally learned how to play it. Thank you!
That is great!
I have to say, I’ve been struggling with playing guitar the way I want to. You have a way of teaching that I’m learning from. I have
ADHD so every lesson just lost me and I’ve been trying to teach myself for 40 plus years. You put it all together just right🤗 You hold my attention,
And I’m so grateful to you.
Thank you so much. That makes me so happy that my lessons helped you.
Thank you for making it easier to understand 🙏
I can tell you are seasoned teacher....from a veteran classroom teacher. Thanks for combining your talent in creating a very comprehensive guitar tutorial! Thank you Lauren.
Thanks so much Scott. Always love getting recognition from another teacher. Means a lot.
@@LaurenBateman Your welcome Lauren. I've been practicing Something in the the way she moves by James Taylor....what an awesome song. Do you happen to have a tutorial on that song?
You're such a fantastic logical teacher!! Thank you for taking things slow and explaining so well 👍🤟
Appreciate that. Thank you!
Excellent teaching. You've the best lesson for this song I've seen so far. No disrespect to the other instructors.
I appreciate that!
Thanks lauren just starting to finger picking the video is great for me and slow so I can understand it very well fantastic 😍
Glad it was helpful!
Great lesson Lauren. Great song. Have taken this lesson at least 10 times. It’s getting there. Thanks. Very good teacher.
Oh wow! Awesome.
Hi Lauren. Anyway you could do a lesson on the song. One step up.
This is awesome!
It’s a smorgasbord of songs I’ve listened to most of my life, very cool and fun to learn to play.
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful gift.🌹
You're welcome!
Lauren I don't play guitar much I play bass, your lessons are great you make it so easy thanks.
Happy to hear that!
The most well explained tutorial of this song I have found!

Awesome...love this interpretation.
Showing the chord/finger transitions really put it together fo me.
Thank you very much!
This is an amazing tutorial!! Thank you so much! I started learning guitar 5 days ago and cannot wait to be able to play this! So much gratitude to you 🙏🏻❤️
Oh thank you so much. Glad you like itm it's definitely a good intermediate level song to work towards.
I see "Landslide" as my goal. Once I can play that I'm a PRO! lol
It's a good one. Makes you feel like a guitar player for sure.
I was gifted a guitar this year and it's first on my list to learn 💜
@@christinepeck3098 Wow, you sure are ambitious. "Landslide" is not an easy song to learn fingerpicking with.
Would say if you play this song fluid. your intermediate.
@@notbraindead7298 it's relatively easy if you been travis picking or picking using alternative thumb like freight train etc for a long time .
I love the way you teach,Lauren.

I’m definitely going to learn this one. I love the finger picking styles. Is this an example of an appregios?
Yes these would be arpeggios.
Thanks Lauren! This was very easy to follow!

I can't do it now. Seeings I'm currently not working. But how do I donate when the time comes. I really appreciate your lessons. Your such a wonderful teacher. I've been learning allot from you. Thank you once again for your time and another great lesson.

Ok I want to play one tree hill on my electric , should I learn those power chords ,I thought it could be played using A and D. Can you play it that way ? I can’t . Will do landslide again. Yeah.
Hmm not sure I know that one off the top of my head to comment. BUT, power chords are great chords to know so definitely learn them at some point.
I've been trying to master the official live version of the song and it's frustrating.
It is tricky yes.
Love it ! Great job!
You're welcome

Then by all means, go ahead and grab those free resources.
After 20 years + of playing guitar, have never used, or thought to use a capo.
Give it a try!
Your frets look so much smaller than on my guitar, is that a possibility?
It can be, but I do have a full size guitar. Different models can have different spacing.
Can you show how to pick. The promise. Tracy Chapman.
Thank you, Malcolm for the recommendation. I get lots of song requests so I cannot guarantee that I will get to it, but I will definitely add it to my list.
Thanks Lauren. Finally found out of my finding someone who can teach me guitar lessons Especially how u did a close up camera shot to show us where we need to position our fingers in playing chords This is very HELPFUL I have tried to find many other websites over and over So I kinda of gave up on my lessons Til today I found you and where you use CLOSE UP CAMERA LESSONS No other websites do this. This, is again very helpful Ty Lauren and also slowly showing me where others whiz by in their teachings. You take your time and show me everything I need to know. You are the best! Ty
Pam, I'm so happy you like my lessons!! Glad to help you enjoy your guitar
Woh easy to see why Lauren has so many followers just👌
Rock on!
Hi Lauren! I watch a lot of your videos and I have a question that's been driving me crazy regarding fingerpicking. Some of the chord shapes we're doing, for example, the Em7 and the D/F# require that the first string (is that right? high e) be held down by the fourth finger, but we don't actually pluck that string, so are we just following the correct form for the sake of consistency or does it matter? I find this happens hall the time when watching videos for fingerpicking songs where I'm told to hold certain chord shapes but maybe only one of the strings involved is plucked. Do you follow my meaning?
If a string isn't being played, it doesn't need a finger on it at all. Blackbird is a great example of this.
Just show the chords & patterns n get rid of the blue dot fuss unless they're alternatives & if so, say so! I'm getting lost in all the xyz's. Dyslexia sucks n u make it worse with all the to wit & there of, jus keep it simple baby girl ! & no tabs for me thank u , unless u want me to jump off d' roof, tabs are upside down n' backwards for my ignorant ass. Trust that once we're out of kindergarten we'll want to know how the music gears work & want to reward u for your time & patience teaching us!
Ahh sorry about you dislexia. I'm sure it doesn't make things easy.
I like to see instructors actually play some of song first before they start teaching it so viewers know they can actually play it like the original recording. Sorry but for this reason, I’m out on this instructor although she is probably very competent.
Not a problem. I no longer include previews because statistically speaking most viewers stopped watching during the 'intros'. I'm sure there's another teacher out there who will be a perfect fit for you!

Hi Lauren I’m not a beginner probably been playing for twenty years, I still love watching other peoples tutorials, I think your channel is great. Your personality and passion shines through😃regards from the uk
I'm so glad!
Very interesting placement for a capo 🤔 you would think if you don't play with your fingers directly on top of the fret, you wouldn't place the capo there either
Just before the fret, like your finger.
I git my Ibanez today! A week early and I can actually do this song without killing my fingers!
That's awesome!!!!! Make sure to give me a thumbs up on the video so UA-cam shows it to moree people. Thank you so much.

It’s Aminor7 (Am7), not Aminor (Am). And D9 with Fsharp bass (D9/F#), not D7 with Fsharp bass (D7/F#). You can watch Lindsey Buckingham himself do it right here on YT.
Oh dear. Sounds like French to me. 🤷♀️
@@LaurenBateman It’s always helpful to get the chords correct as well their names and symbols, n’est ce pas?
This 72 yo really appreciates your talent for guitar and teaching. Thanks.
Thank you!
@@LaurenBateman Appreciate that you sing with chord changes. Really helps.
The teaching style is probably too too basic for teaching Landslide. Seems like this teaching level is for the very new student, twinkle twinkle little star. If the student is not already familiar with chord fingering, reading tabs, and counting time, a lot of time is wasted here on basics (I think the student should already be comfortable with chord changes, tab reading, some finger picking exercises if tackling Landslide) jumping too far ahead IMHO and will discourage the student, cause unless the student is shooting for Carnegie Hall (practice, practice, practice), this will take hours, hours, hours of practice. Oh and more hours.
Hi Joaquin, yep, that's what I do here. I help make the guitar make sense even in more difficult settings. Definitely not Twinkle Twinkle level here, but good for you for being such an advanced player. 👏👏👏
@@LaurenBateman I'm not an advanced player. In fact I'm a terrible guitar player, but I'm not quiting. I remember trying to learn Landslide 30 years ago similar to your method and failed misersbly, got discouraged, put the guitar away for a year, so I'm probably transferring my shortcomings here. However, a thousand mile trip is one step at a time. So it took a couple of years and hundreds of hours to get comfortable with chord changes including a few m7, maj7, dim, sus, etc. Then picked some easy peasy 3-chord tunes to get timing down, in the meantime practiced daily for a couple of hours the country Travis picking style, similar to what you do on Landslide, but I still don't sound like Lindsey Buckingham, hahaha. The most difficult part was the timing. That's when I knew I needed a ticktock. Anyway with a few beers and a couple shots of tequila, I'm happy with my version, at least close enough. I still say, unless you are truly gifted, or a prodigy, attacking Landslide all at once (chord changes, picking style) is sure to discourage the majority of new players. And if anyone really wants to do it, then the only advice is practice, practice, practice, oh and then practice some more.
I'm not there yet as a beginner, but this type of lesson keeps me going. This song is a solid goal. So happy we have you teaching us Lauren. Cheers
Happy to help Ron 😊
Thanks so much for this. After annoying my wife with the same pattern on the C chord I got it.
Also how do you like the Crafters guitar you’re playing, action, finish, frets? I know the aren’t expensive but they look pretty nice.
I love my Crafter. Still one of my favorites. I still like it better than my Taylor.
@@LaurenBateman I’m looking for a parlor size guitar. I see that Crafters has the option for a torrified top. I got a grand concert Orangewood with a torrified top. I play it more than my Martin.
Lauren, thank you sincerely for this lesson. But, I have a question about the G/B that you are using in this piece. The G/B chord that I was shown has a minor change to what you show. In mine, the only change that I make is, rather than putting my pinky on the third fret of the second string, I place it on the third fret of the first string. Your chord has the notes B D G & D. The one that I was shown has the notes B D G B & G. Am I incorrect? I would just like your help.
Bill Baker in Toronto
If it works, go for it. More than one way to play any chord on the guitar.
Thanks for the reply Lauren.
Like because you show fingers were to go for the melody of the song
You're welcome Dollie. Glad you found it helpful
one of my fav songs...got the Verse down..you are such a patient teacher...:) thank you!
You're welcome. Glad it's helping. One section at a time is the best way to go.
Most of us like this song. I always avoided the Travis picking style because in my naivety I thought it was a bit too oompah oompah and 'dad' music style. Now I have to develop muscle memory and apply it to everything from rag time to blues and folk. Even rock and roll. Thanks for providing a simple and quite beautiful introduction to it.
Thanks for watching!
When he is going thru the recipe, 'a of cayenne? I've listened a dozen times or more and I don't understand.

In your video on Travis picking, you play Landslide Thumb Thumb 1 T 2 T 1. I like the sound of that much better. It seems strange to teach viewers a different pattern in this video, since this is not the Jamie Buckingham pattern. But thanks anyways.
Thanks Lauren! I have a question for you. With the D7 you said it’s 6 string cord. Correct? But you said playing the 5 and 6 string with the thumb? Or is it the 6 and 4 string? Thank you
Just how this chord is used in this song.
@@LaurenBateman Sorry I misspoke. In the D7 chord you said it was a 6 string cord and we thumb pick 4 and 6. Then you go to your “stuck like glue cords” So the G is 6 string: do we pick 4 and 6 or 5 and
Sorry with G stuck like glue - do we thumb pick 4&6 or 5&6? Same with E chord? Thanks
Hi Lauren, you are incredible ! I was wondering if you could do a finger picking lesson of Early Morning Rain. The live version by Elvis is an amazing song and a favorite.
Great suggestion! I get lots of song requests so I cannot guarantee that I will get to it, but I will definitely add it to my list
i see a different chord progression on your tab that you linked to. I don't see it starting on a G for verses.
I think it starts on the D7? Perhaps as the transition chord.
So...does the chord progression on your page go with the capo on 3rd fret? Something doesn't mesh. I guess I'll search around and watch you again for pattern. Your videos look good and will walk through a few more to see if I can be helped here. Thanks

I use my third finger on the B string and my second finger on the A string.

I love that you break it down in parts, start with chord progression then picking, then put it all together is just what I needed to hear tbh my picking is there but not my chords being clean Enough
Hey Alex, thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed the lesson.
Fun fact: the song " Angie" begins on A minor chord, and the song " Landslide" ends on A minor chord.
Thank you for this lesson and breaking down all the sections!!! I have been learning the beginners electric bass, but acoustic guitar is new to me but really want to play this song for my uncle. Luckily had 2 guitar lessons to help. Maybe it's a good target for this coming month.

Hitting a wall for some reason.
That's OK. Take your time and come back. Sometimes these songs need to be learn over time.
Tracey Chapman who I forgot about is now back in my life with her great music.
I think I hear Am7 in the verse chords... C, G/B, Am7... That would be true to Fleetwood Mac... always using more "complex" chords in most songs....
That could be true. I actually don't have a great ear as a musician to hear chords. This is how my guitar teacher taught me and how I taught it to my students over the years.
Thanks for the Vid! I play this song and love it! Please note this is in the key of Eb, so it's not a "C maj" chord but a Eb maj chord. You're not hearing a C, Am, G, etc. so best to think of it in Eb as it is played and heard. This is important when playing at a jam session and people want to join with instruments that don't use capos.
I'm referring to the chord relative to the capo.
Hey good looking, great lesson, and all done with a great smile, I wish I had you as my first teacher on school, instead of the witch who was horrid and cruel.
One question Lauren is this Travis picking?
Similar to the pattern I teach with a small 8th note variation.

On the G/B chord, it seems easier to use the third finger to third fret rather than the fourth finger (the fourth gives me loads of trouble). Great teaching style BTW. I'm wondering if you have a subscription plan for the full lesson package?

My son gets married in July of 2021. My wife has chosen this song as the song for the mother/son dance. My goal is to surprise them by playing it on the guitar for them. I am a super beginner, almost no idea what I'm doing, but I've got 4 months to figure it out. Its 3 1/2 minutes, what could possibly go wrong? Am I crazy Lauren?
That's an amazing goal!!!! It's a bit agressive for this song BUT if you focus on only this for the next 3-4 months I could be possible. Stay laser focused.
@@LauraPallatin Not great. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time I thought I would have. My son is still getting married, they're still dancing to this song, I'll just be crying in the corner like a normal father instead.
