Keep up the good work. Any possibility you could do a step by step video on mapping a 2.0 tfsi k03 or k04 car? Would be interesting to see all the technical side of mapping 🙂
Unfortunately the ECU's are so different from each other, even on the same platform that it would be of little value as the exact same car would need to be tuned differently.

this is the exact video I wanted to see. I just inherited my wife's mk1 225 because she moved onto a new car. So now is my time to start to play. I'd love to see move details about this car..
And can we get more in depth with the fueling and ignition maps?? Iv struggled so much with tuning my 1.8t with Megasquirt and theres not much info to reference with tuning these engines with a standalone
There's no cut and dry answers unfortunately, every setup is different. It really comes down to seat time, and specific setup. For example in the MK5 platform the maps you tune can be completely different from ECU to ECU... there's a reason there's not a lot of info out there as it's very complex.
Would be really nice if you could start diving into the tuning a little more for example, showing us some on screen adjustments while you are tuning to show and teach a little more about how you get dips out if the graphs and mess with the tune. Bit of teaching and training on tuning if you will. That would be a massive help. Thanks heaps
Appreciate the feedback. Remember this is what I do for a living so the main point of these is to finish them for the client. We try and share what we can but we are still learning on how to capture as much as we can on video while this is all happening for us live. Filming literally adds a lot to each to job. Maybe if YT starts becoming an income source we'll have more time to focus on filming and sharing more details. Unfortunately until then we're just trying to capture what we can in the moment to share, but more importantly trying to get the job done.
Yeah, I can imagine trying to do all the filming while running the shop on deadlines to keep customers happy is not the easiest thing. Hopefully you guys get the opportunity to generate enough income from your channel to take some time and work on more in-depth footage. Fingers crossed and wish you guys the best
Maybe shopdap or humblemechanic. Love the content. Do you have any fixes for the awp 1.8t stage 2 boost surging? Other than putting on a manual boost controller
I’d like you guys to make videos, including dyno sessions if possible, of « basic mods » setup that you recommend for various VW/Audi vehicles. For example : « Hey you just bought this car » or « you’re interested in that model » « here’s what you can do to get good results quickly without breaking the bank / good bang/buck setups ». Also, individual part tests : different air intakes, different exhausts, different tunes, comparing them…
We do have plans for the "best bang for the buck" sort of video's, so stay tuned. However comparisons between intakes and other hardware aren't going to happen unless someone's paying/sponsoring to do. That would be a lot of time and money on our part, and we're just not at that level in the YT world for that type of commitment. Maybe someday if the channel grows where video's pay for themselves then it will happen. But at this we're just a small shop, and we share what we can at this point.
Like to see some more MK7 / MK7.5 Golf R content. I am currently running a EQT Custom 94 tune / 94 plus octane booster VP Octanium and Boostane using a DBV2 V1 hybrid turbo. Could you do dyno pulls on who has the best octane booster possibly?
This comment was held for some reason. Silly YT. Most octane booster is junk, however I have used Boostane and VP Octanium. They do work, however I wouldn't use it on a daily situation. It leaves a lot of deposits. For track use etc it seems to work, but not as much as they claim from my experience.
I'd love to come collaborate with you guys at some point! Big turbo built b8a4 series over here that I'm finally finishing up. Not sure exactly what we could do besides filming random stuff, but let me know if you'd like to link up sometime!

Awesome video! I'm currently building my TT motor. I see a few people using the AEB heads on the AMU engine. Im wondering why you used the AEB pistons and not the Stock pistons the block came with ? Just making sure I'm not missing some valuable info before I blow my car up lol.
i would say more vw 16v content. like 16v turbo with stock motor except drop in rods and two headgaskets arp headstuds to see what power it could put out.
Unfortunately the 16v is long since dead in most VW circles so they're a rare bird. So unlikely a clients going to request a setup like that with the 1.8t being so much easier all around. On that note, we will have another 16vt build on our channel at some point but the setup is not so basic and should make some decent power.
Map is less important. But intake manifold will tell you exactly what's getting into the engine. If you put one before the throttle plate and one after you can see if you have a big enough throttle body for your setup.
Great numbers. How much did the heat from the turbo boost cause the limit of the pump gas vs race gas? Could that be improved Increasing the the 362whp on pump gas limit. Crazy fast car. Lots of fun
good day, I would like to ask which turbo is better for the 1.8T GT2871 or 2867? The Audi TT 4x4 engine is completely engineered forged pistons connecting rods inconel valves and much more...
@@COMotorsports I want it for daily driving, do you think something bigger would be better? won't the turbo start be late? they say it's around 4500rpm with the GT2871 so the rpm range with the power is pretty small or is that info wrong? that's why I wanted to consult with someone who really understands it and manufactures these engines

Hey nice vids came upon the channel searching for knowledge on 1.8t since I just bought a mk4 jetta 1.8t as my first car a few days ago I'd like to know what I would need to do to get 300-350whp reliably and if you could make a video on what I would need to watch out for in the chassis
I got a question about head gaskets on the 2.5, I thought mine popped but I did a leak down test and it didn't seem to be blown I did have a bad coolant flange that I changed and I changed the oil because it had coolant in it and it's never happened again... Will a bad coolant flange get water in the oil or is my head gasket ready to go at any point?
@@COMotorsports I did a leak down and took it to 20psi just to see and it was fine that's why I'm confused, the compression is almost 180 across the board too... I heard a bad oil cooler could also be the problem but I don't know, what's a fair price to have a head gasket done on a 2.5? US dollars, I know your in Canada
I've watch your channel for a while, my favourite engines from vw are 1.8t vr6 and i'd love to see a turbo vr5, and just wondering, is there anything you can built the vr5 with like internals?
MK6 AWD GLI, I'm not much of a youtuber, but I would love to make the Gen 3 engine in the non-MQB platform known for better tuning support. Conti Simos 18.2 ECU (same ECU capabilities as MQB in theory but non of the support). I'm all the way down in Florida though. My question is surge pump or in tank pump and why?
A true drop in solution without modifying the basket all to death will be tough. A surge tank will open up endless pumps and gives no worries of fuel starvation on hard acceleration/cornering.
idk if you remember me but i found classes to teach me to tune i was wondering if we could get more shots of the lap top so i can see ur tables just out of curiosity feel free to say no
I suspect he's likely already geared up from HPA on that one. However if he wants to make HP then the HPA kit... then we can definitely take care of that. :)
Great and inspiring! So what do you recommend for fuel pump in VW FWD cars? I'm building MK5 using the same turbo as this but i would try to eliminate fueling limitations.
The LPFP is not the concern when trying to eliminate fueling limitations as there's a few options for that. However the LPFP module becomes a limiting factor, as well as the typical S3/RS4 injectors that most use as an upgrade. If you're goals are over 400whp then injectors/module and tuning will begin to be your limitations.
@@COMotorsports You are absolutely correct but since i have upgraded injectors (Not S3/RS4's) and PM3 to drive the LPFP so i find my next bottle neck will be the LPFP even though it is the TTRS pump. Really looking to max out the turbo.
Good morning guys writing from Miami, I got a fully built Audi A4 with big turbo looking to tune it asap. Can you guys point me in the right direction. Car is correctly on bass map 12degress on timing. Do you guys offer remote tuning?
hello, i have the same car same spec but cabrio. I want to put on a big turbo too. What do i need to look out for? How much money we talk about (parts wise)
Is it possible to get rid of the secondary air injections garbage on the 02 turbos s beetles? Ive got my 2002 turbo s bug and the secondary air injection stuff is about at the end of ots life.
@@COMotorsports guess I’ll have to pack up some gas and bring it out sometime, or bribe Mike (said he swung by the shop last summer and mentioned a TTrs to you guys, this would be that car haha) to bring it out for me.
@@COMotorsports I think that's what I'm going to do I might keep the TT for the summer since it's a convertible. I'm not going over 450 tbh 420-430 is the sweet spot for the Greek roads.
What sort of timing is "normal" at WOT on a 1.8T and 20psi? I ask because anything more than like 3° or 4° I start to knock. Which makes the car pretty lazy in the high rpms.
@@COMotorsports I was just looking for an around about number but if it helps, it's a stock engine (for now) compression is 9.5 to 1, running 93 octane fuel. Turbo is a China K04. But the engine is pretty high mileage at somewhere north of 150K, dash has been changed. So I know it needs a refresh. I have H beam rods with ne w rings and bearing. Unfortunately i hurt myself a few weeks ago so that's been put on hold until my hand heals.
Check through our channel. You will see other 1.8ts I've done on stock ECU. It's not for the faint of heart and your going to get way better support and functions with standalone.
I'm really curious how it will look like to compare the same car measured in states and in europe :) Yours 91 is 95 in EU. This is really crappy fuel for making good power,as you sad. But damn, 360 WHEELS is like at least 400hp at crank. More 410-420. In Europe such setups from good tuners are making such numbers at the crank, but not on 95 :) 98 or even 100. Do you have any comparisons with for example 064 in 1.8t? Asking cause I have one, with big port and rodslike here too , and overall I'm curious what numbers are making 1.8t on k04 tfsi turbo in the states. I have made (cause I'm tuning me7 for fun by myself) a few 340' on 98 and this is the avarage in Europe in healthy engine. But nevertheless - very fun to watch! Good talking, enough technicallity with a bit of humor. Will be following for sure!
Much appreciated. Unfortunately our 91oct has no ethanol either, and it's lower quality then most of the 91oct throughout the rest of NA. Even tuners from California (who only have 91oct) that remote tune with us have stated how junky our fuel is compared to theirs. So it's tough comparing numbers when we definitely have a handicap. But to answer your other question, we've never seen great results out of K04's on 1.8ts so we don't recommend them and seldom have them come in to be dynoed.
@@COMotorsports hmm seriously k04-064 is not used very often in States? Ofcourse I'm not saying, that this is making GOOD power in general, but good enough for such sizes :) In Europe very common. A lot better then hybrid k04-023, cause don't need custom manifold (no cracking) and makes around 320-330hp a lot easier then stock hybrids + still wakes up as hell. 20psi od 3k rpm makes torque curve a lot better then such gtx. But ofcourse - every build has own goals.
Different engines take different plugs. Different power/boost levels also require different heat ranges and gap settings. So there isn't a straight forward answer for all engines.

Much appreciated.
you need to add some onboard video with some south south of the boarder pulls. Before and afters. Just a thought to add some smiles.
We are trying to do that a bit more. In this case I needed to do some logging and verification on the tune so it wasnt a true for his "first" drive.
I have the exact same engine build in my corrado :D
Very nice.
@@COMotorsports even just a step by step video of what goes into mapping etc.
I have a 1.8 mk1 it’s a quattro I’ve been trying build it and this gives me more inspiration or actually I think it’s a 2.0
Give us a tour of the shop!!🏁🔥
Front, office, cars on the side of the building that you’re going to be working on, toolboxes/tools, lifts.. I want to see it all!!🤙
Lovin the content regardless🔥
Great ideas, thanks.
this is the exact video I wanted to see. I just inherited my wife's mk1 225 because she moved onto a new car. So now is my time to start to play. I'd love to see move details about this car..
Pretty much all the details are in the video and in the description. Good luck with your new project.
Speed academy is in Canada.
@@jasonmeyer3206 much appreciated. 👍
Good Work!
Awesome video!!
Link to injectors doesn’t work.
Maybe shopdap or humblemechanic. Love the content. Do you have any fixes for the awp 1.8t stage 2 boost surging? Other than putting on a manual boost controller
I second this although neither of them are close to Canada at all. Would be a cool collaboration
Surging typically can be managed with tuning. However it is harder to manage with small turbo's like K04's.
@@COMotorsports the problem is with the stock turbo more so. I have a 1.8t with a f21 franken turbo and has no surge. I believe they are a k04 hybrid.
I need those brakes!
Good video keep up
Great video 👍 have you done a video on upgrading the gearbox parts ?
Not specially. But we have a few to do.
I'd love to come collaborate with you guys at some point! Big turbo built b8a4 series over here that I'm finally finishing up. Not sure exactly what we could do besides filming random stuff, but let me know if you'd like to link up sometime!
I need my 04 225 built to 400+hp But I’m in Ohio says 24 hour drive to Nova Scotia. that’s crazy I didn’t think it was that far from me. Also need full new suspension I’m building the entire car after it is out of body shop currently
We can build an engine an ship it.
Awesome video! I'm currently building my TT motor. I see a few people using the AEB heads on the AMU engine. Im wondering why you used the AEB pistons and not the Stock pistons the block came with ? Just making sure I'm not missing some valuable info before I blow my car up lol.
Because they melted lol. Pretty sure that was in the video.
@@COMotorsports haha yeah, I saw the melted piston. I wasn't sure if maybe you had to use the AEB pistons with the AEB head or something.
@@kennyfontaine4762 no, all 20v pistons work. You just need to match rods to the pin of course.
@@COMotorsports Thank you! Keep making awesome content👍
A high rev Mk4 1.8t build would be sick or a twin charged build
Keep it up awsome chanel
How high you want to rev?
i would say more vw 16v content. like 16v turbo with stock motor except drop in rods and two headgaskets arp headstuds to see what power it could put out.
Unfortunately the 16v is long since dead in most VW circles so they're a rare bird. So unlikely a clients going to request a setup like that with the 1.8t being so much easier all around. On that note, we will have another 16vt build on our channel at some point but the setup is not so basic and should make some decent power.
Where do you think is a good locating for the 1.8T MAP? FMIC, intercooler piping, or intake manifold? Great video.
Map is less important. But intake manifold will tell you exactly what's getting into the engine. If you put one before the throttle plate and one after you can see if you have a big enough throttle body for your setup.
Great numbers. How much did the heat from the turbo boost cause the limit of the pump gas vs race gas?
Could that be improved
Increasing the the 362whp on pump gas limit.
Crazy fast car. Lots of fun
IAT's isn't the issue. It's fuel quality which causes the engine to be knock limited, so less boost and less timing make less power.
good day, I would like to ask which turbo is better for the 1.8T GT2871 or 2867? The Audi TT 4x4 engine is completely engineered forged pistons connecting rods inconel valves and much more...
Why so small?
@@COMotorsports I want it for daily driving, do you think something bigger would be better? won't the turbo start be late? they say it's around 4500rpm with the GT2871 so the rpm range with the power is pretty small or is that info wrong? that's why I wanted to consult with someone who really understands it and manufactures these engines
Would be fun to see some g series action!!
For an 1,8t stock displasement, valve and spring head and goal of 450-500hp 94oct with watermeth would you go g25-660 or g30-660
On a FWD car I will pretty much always choose bigger. Quick spool does nothing on a FWD car besides make it lose traction quicker.
Recently purchased an old garage gem. Bought a 05' MK1 tt 1.8turbo FWD. Plot twist its an auto :( sadly no fun mods

Build the transmission
Let's see Ben out ripping on this thing! I didn't catch if it was fwd or awd?
AWD. All the 225 TTs were AWD.
Yes!!!
I dislike the reliability but I love how it looks
Not sure if you mentioned it, does he have the Haltech wideband controller installed aswell?
I did forget to mention it. Yes this one we're using the haltech controller. On the mk1 (Other videos) we used a gauge as the controller wired into haltech.
Hey nice vids came upon the channel searching for knowledge on 1.8t since I just bought a mk4 jetta 1.8t as my first car a few days ago I'd like to know what I would need to do to get 300-350whp reliably and if you could make a video on what I would need to watch out for in the chassis
What all our 18t videos. Lots of info on what's needed to make power in them, and what we use to do so.
Water in oil, head gasket, cracked head, or someone put water in there.
Are there any knowledgeable forums for the 1.8t?
I've watch your channel for a while, my favourite engines from vw are 1.8t vr6 and i'd love to see a turbo vr5, and just wondering, is there anything you can built the vr5 with like internals?
We did not get the vr5 here.
1.8t stuff 😬 also wouldn't mind seeing some info on what kind of fuel system works without going way overkill for different power levels.
Always overkill the fuel system. Nothing worse then having to buy stuff over and over again.
idk if you remember me but i found classes to teach me to tune i was wondering if we could get more shots of the lap top so i can see ur tables just out of curiosity feel free to say no
Every engine and turbo setup is different.
You guys should tune humblemechanic's turbo R32 build.
I suspect he's likely already geared up from HPA on that one. However if he wants to make HP then the HPA kit... then we can definitely take care of that. :)
@@COMotorsports it be cool too see a collab between you guys regardless of the car.
@@ejendres I agree. Charles if you're reading this we're ready when you are. :)
Great and inspiring! So what do you recommend for fuel pump in VW FWD cars? I'm building MK5 using the same turbo as this but i would try to eliminate fueling limitations.
Bosch 044 inline pumps are really good
The LPFP is not the concern when trying to eliminate fueling limitations as there's a few options for that. However the LPFP module becomes a limiting factor, as well as the typical S3/RS4 injectors that most use as an upgrade. If you're goals are over 400whp then injectors/module and tuning will begin to be your limitations.
The 044 is great pump but might not be suitable for these platforms (mk5 onwards) since those drives fuel pump through PWM signal.
@@COMotorsports You are absolutely correct but since i have upgraded injectors (Not S3/RS4's) and PM3 to drive the LPFP so i find my next bottle neck will be the LPFP even though it is the TTRS pump. Really looking to max out the turbo.
@@VRT4life correct 044 not good for the mk5/6/7 platform. A walbro 525 would do the trick.
Good morning guys writing from Miami, I got a fully built Audi A4 with big turbo looking to tune it asap. Can you guys point me in the right direction. Car is correctly on bass map 12degress on timing. Do you guys offer remote tuning?

Honest answer, whatever the engine was happy with.
is it worth the money i have an audi tt mk1 225 bam. I am about to switch to forge internals and add a gtx 2867 gen2, or should i buy a 2015-18 s3

@@COMotorsports I think that's what I'm going to do I might keep the TT for the summer since it's a convertible. I'm not going over 450 tbh 420-430 is the sweet spot for the Greek roads.
Hello. What fuel pump it was used on this car? DW...???
Yes DW drop in pump.
But wich DW? 65? 100? 200? 400?
What sort of timing is "normal" at WOT on a 1.8T and 20psi? I ask because anything more than like 3° or 4° I start to knock. Which makes the car pretty lazy in the high rpms.
To many variables to give you a realistic answer. Timing comes down to so many factors, fuel, intake temp, compression and on and on.
How would I go about sending my 1.8t to you guys from Florida for a motor build for 500 whp? How do I go about it and price range for shop time.

91 octane…. I never seen that before , where I live we thankfully have 100 octane at the gas station 🙂
It's junk, but it's what we have to work with.
How capable is the stock (me 7.5) ecu for tuning?
