could you please make a video on manga for beginners? i've been wanting to get into manga but i don't know where to start? you could do it by genre, or by emotions, your pick!
I just broke my 2 month slump with an audiobook, I might not feel like reading but im down for having a story told to me as if im a small small child lol
Not me checking hannah's goodreads everyday to see if she's finished Funny Story 😂 seeing it was rated 5 stars was sooo satisfying you have no idea, and finding out you fell in love with it after just reading 55 pages is *chefs kiss* relatable
Hi Hannah I thought you might like to hear this! I bought your ana luisa necklace (and also your bracelet) when it was first launched and wear it every day. I get so many compliments on it and actually the last two community theatre productions I've been in the director has specifically requested I wear it on stage because they found it so pretty. The last one was Pride and Prejudice!
i hate when people say mangas don’t count :( like there are words…i am actively reading at the end of the day whether it’s a full length novel or not it COUNTS
my romance recommendation is definitely The Seven Year Slip, it gave me major emily henry vibes with a speculative twist!! so happy you're loving your books and reading in general
I Downloaded „Minor Detail“ right after they banned the book from the Annual Book Fair in Germany. Also many of my friends did that all over Europe. Thank you for speaking about this book, it is so disturbing, but really well written ❤️
read/watch skip and loafer! it's such a great slice of life with impeccable characters. also I feel like ima koi has similar vibes to a sign of affection! really sweet wholesome relationship dynamic that gave me all the butterflies. definitely recommend!
Haha. I just finished reading As Long As Lemon Trees Grow, and I am feeling so accomplished since I havent read an actual book in ages. I started with that one because you recommended it. Thanks!!
You should read Abby Jimenez. Especially the Part of Your World interconnected series. The last one, Just For The Summer is one of the best romances I’ve ever read!! But all three in the series are so good!
I literally was about to comment this !!!. I LOVED LOVED Just for the summer. It was soo good. These two have really become my favorite romance authors. THEY DO NOT DISAPPOINT.
@@poppycalliope I read just for the Summer first. It was a great book, and fine to read as a standalone. As far as I gathered from the other books, these are about side characters of just for the summer. Maybe you have more context when you read them first, but it is not really necessary. I hope that helped. Just for the summer was so great for me. I haven’t been able to finish anything since then. Nothing compares 😅 it seems I need a readathon too 📚
It’s so funny how the different Emily Henry books hit for different people! She’s such a skilled writer and storyteller and I also adored Funny Story! In fact, your top 3 Emily Henry’s are the same as mine. They just have those Feels, ya know??
Indonesian fan right here! I watched this video and somehow it helped giving me just the right push to finish a book I've been procrastinating to read. I guess the key is to be in a really comfortable environment to read and try to ignore small distractions that our brain usually comes up with
I really enjoyed hearing you rationalize what mood-reading means and how you sort of... genre-surf? It was very eloquently put and made me look at my own TBR shelf with new eyes
The book that got me out of my last reading slump was Sorcery of Thorns. It's so good and a new fave of mine! After I was done reading it I just felt like screaming: "This gem was in my bookshelf this whole time and I had no idea!!!!"
A Sign of Affection is literally one of my favorite manga series ever, I'm so happy that you're reading it!! Also I feel like you would love Skip and Loafer! 💗💐
I highly recommend the Buried and the Bound series by Rochelle Hassan. It’s YA Fantasy but it’s so so good for older readers as well. Because it’s gets dark, gritty and violent. The author doesn’t pull her punches when she puts her characters through it. And there’s found family and queer romance sub plot.
i used to be in a huge slump but am currently reading my favorite book of 2024 (the goldfinch by donna tartt!) i recall hannah saying she didn’t like the secret history and i think her reasons were completely valid. if you didn’t like tsh then you probably won’t like the goldfinch. but the writing is so, so beautiful and the depiction of grief is so raw, and the characters just grab onto you and don’t let go. completely worthy of winning a pulitzer in my opinion. a book hasn’t made me feel this way in a long, long time.
Reading children’s chapter books are also a great way to get out of a reading slump! I think they’re often forgotten about but can be so complex! Like Neil Gaiman’s Coraline or The Graveyard Book. Or anything by Roald Dahl like James and the Giant Peach. The themes are amazing, easy reads, entertaining. They always cure a stubborn reading slump for me!
This was so motivational! I loved Funny Story as well and totally feel exactly the same about it vs. Happy Place too. I think a sort of a comp rec would be Happily Never After by Lynn Painter. Not as much depth as an Emily Henry tbh but still great characters to follow and always hilarious as heck.
This genuinely gave me so much motivation to get out of my reading slump. I've been in the middle of six different books for months now and even though I've been really enjoying them I just couldn't enjoy the act of reading. I have the first volume of Yona of the Dawn (which I got due to your recommendation) and I think reading a manga could help spring my reading back into action. I've been watching your videos for years and we have very similar reading tastes so anytime you say you love something, I know I will love it too. Thank you so much Hannah for everything you do! It's always a joy to see a new video from you!
Joining the Fantasy Faction book discussion book on Facebook got me out of my reading slump. I've gotten so many good suggestions from it (ignoring all the Fourth Wing, Sarah J Maas, etc that pops up)
I was slowly getting stuck into a reading slump (because of Tempest of Tea, this is so weird I love it and yet don't feel like reading the rest of it) and you made me want to read again, so thanks ! Also, I can't wait to have your opinion on Lady M because I feel I could hate it or love it very much
I think you would love bunny by mona awad. Although I haven't read rouge it's similar to how you described that book, it kinda feels like everything is a hallucination or a fever dream. I read it way before the tiktok hype and I was begging people to read it because no one had heard of it before, so I highly recommend checking it out!
I highly recommend Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell. Yes, that’s the title! It was the sweetest (and strangest) romance I’ve read so far this year.
Love the video, love the recommendations, love your excitement and love to have you back on the reading hype. Go queen, welcome back, we’ve missed you ❤❤❤
loved the videooo!! the slump is affecting everyone everywhere all at once. also just finished frieren the anime and i think you would really enjoy it!
Abby Jimenez is my favorite romance author! Emily Henry is a close second since they both write cute romances but also tackle issues by not having the characters be perfect. Highly recomend Abby
Manga definitely counts as reading and I don't give a care what anyone has to say. Also, if you really love Funny Story, I highly recommend Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez. I read both and loved them. They give off a similar vibe while being original.
It's so great to see a new upload from you. You're an absolute breath of fresh air. A few books that have a huge potential of getting you out of a reading slump: The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly. (Fantasy) Think of a Number by John Verdon. (Thriller) Minor Details by Adania Shibli. (Historical/literary fiction novella) Four Treasures of the Sky by Jenny Tinghui Zhang. (Historical fiction) None of This is True by Lisa Jewell. (Thriller).
My reading slump started last year and it was so bad I thought I'd never pick up a book again. Then I decided to read Red rising which has been sitting on my shelf for quite some time. And just like that I was obsessed, the only thing slowing me down was school work. Trying to study while you think about a plot of a book you're reading sucks but I'm glad I got over the slump xD
Thanks for the manga book recs! : ) and i have Funny Story but haven’t finished it yet, and what’s crazy is it’s soo good so far! This global reading slump is just terrible!
Thank for this video. Also read Rouge by Mona Awad and I was stunned by her writing style! Bunny is still in my TBR but I hope to read it soon ! If you want any other weird story I recommend the novella “Comfort me with apples” but even more My husband by Maud Ventura ! An absolute five stars 💫
You NEED to read The fragrant flower blooms with dignity manga. Its SO GOOD. The vibes are similar to a sign of affection. But i personally like it more than a sign of affection
you should check out "little scratch" by rebecca watson. it's formatted really strangely and follows an unnamed girl from the moment she wakes up til when she foes to sleep and its amazing! my first 5 star read of the year
Have been putting off reading for so long, but sat down to finish my book before watching this video because I knew I'd come out of it with another book on my tbr
Love this as a way to get out of a reading slump! I read Funny Story a little over a week ago and I agree with its place in your Emily Henry ranking. I think what makes her books so great is that they’re inherently *satisfying* - you come away refreshed and rejuvenated. That said, the two best books I’ve read this year were NetGalley ARCs - Margo’s Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe (coming out in June) and I Hope This Finds You Well by Natalie Sue (coming out next week). Both were 5-star reads for me and worth checking out!
If you're in a romance mood, I'd recommend checking out books from Katherine Center. I've read The Bodyguard and Hello Stranger from her and really enjoyed both.
tbh when I'm in a reading slump my go-to picks are terry pratchett's discworld novels. they're funny and lighthearted, generally move pretty quickly and are easy to follow, and they're not really emotionally heavy so they don't really take a mental toll on you to read.
I also cried with Funny Story but because Miles Nowak didn’t just break Daphne’s heart but mine as well. Daphne forgave him but I still can’t get over it 😂
Hi 👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾 I binged Sign of Affection volumes 1-5 and am loving them!!! Have already placed a library hold for the remaining volumes. Thank you for suggesting it. To break my reading slump, I am binging the Bridgerton series on Felicity, George and Violet. This will compete the series for me.
If you're looking for new manga: Blue Box! I’ve only read the one shot, (loved it so much im saving the actual series for when i really am in dire need of it lol) but it was a lovely taste of the two main characters and their dyanmic and, as someone who is extremly picky with romance media, the reasons they liked each other were really well-thought out and felt genuine and sweet. And fantasy wise, if you havent read Witch Hat Atelier you absolutely should. The magic system is so creative and interesting and the vibes are very whimiscal but also a tad spooky on occasion. I'd hesitate to call anything Ghibli-esque but it makes me feel a similar way.
Watched A Sign of Affection anime because of your recommendation and it was literally so sweet, I almost couldn’t handle it. I will be reading all the manga now! Haha
Today I bought volume 8 of A Sign of Affection and thanks to you I found out that there’s a volume 9 out lol so now I need it before I even read the 8th one
Great vlog, it’s definitely motivating. A couple months ago I wanted to get back into reading and have decided to try to pick up more of the manga I owned and so far I’ve been enjoying it. For romance manga recs, if you want high school romance, I recommend a condition called love, and Imakoi; as for like college age, I really enjoyed How I met my soulmate.
If you're looking for another manga, I just read the first couple volumes of The Savior's Book Café Story in Another World, and it gave me the squee butterfly feelings, plus it's fantasy! Also, highly highly highly recommend My Happy Marriage. It is SO good!
For romance, I would reccomend How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang. The author is actually working on the adaptations for Beach Read and People We Meet on Vacation, so the book gives big Emily Henry vibes.
I got into the Emily Wilde series (rip me cause I have to wait till 2025 for book 3) and it really kicked off my reading spree and then I had to read a book in time for pub date because I was part of a book tour and we got the info for the schedule like 3 days prior to pub date lol! Anyways, finished the book at 1 o'clock in the morning, was worth it cause it was 5/5 stars
Just picked up Happy place by Emily Henry but didn't start it because the reviews are not unanimous... But now I want to read it thanks to you! ❤ Donato Carrisi is the author that just (a few days ago) got me out of my reading slump! Yay for us! 💪
Watching your videos always motivates me to read more.... Whenever I'm in a reading slump... I watch your videos.... Thank you for all your efforts.... Love you 💝

Hello Hanna, I am a first time writer. Would you like to review my e-book on your channel?
the slump is global. i don't know what a book is anymore
You are right everyone I know including me is in a slump😂❤
I am so glad it’s not just me 😢
I just broke my 2 month slump with an audiobook, I might not feel like reading but im down for having a story told to me as if im a small small child lol
I've not been able to read for two months now 😭
Exactly 😢
Manga HAS to count since I've read only 5 books this year and 50 volumes of manga 😭😭
the 14 volumes of dungeon meshi are carrying my reading count for this year for real...
I'm not into Manga, but I definitionally think it counts since you annihilated 50 volumes of it. 😹❤❤🔥
Of course manga counts. ❤😄
Definitely counts 👏✨️
IT DOES COUNT.

Gosh, I love that book too! So cutee. I want more recommendations like the seven year slip
LOVED that one! and knowing how Hannah feels about Beach Read, I think she would love it
I just read that this month and I loooove it! I’ve been kinda so so with contemporary romance and it was everything I needed
seven year slip is AMAZING, lives in my head rent free
Hannah, as a fellow curly hair girly I just want to say that your hair is glorious 💖💖
I Downloaded „Minor Detail“ right after they banned the book from the Annual Book Fair in Germany. Also many of my friends did that all over Europe. Thank you for speaking about this book, it is so disturbing, but really well written ❤️
Once again, your hair looks stunning!
Saying her hair looks amazing is like saying water is wet or the sky is blue. Her hair is always amazing.

Anyways, finished the book at 1 o'clock in the morning, was worth it cause it was 5/5 stars
Just picked up Happy place by Emily Henry but didn't start it because the reviews are not unanimous... But now I want to read it thanks to you! ❤
Donato Carrisi is the author that just (a few days ago) got me out of my reading slump! Yay for us! 💪
Suzanne collins will be releasing a new hunger games prequel in 2025✨
Based on your book tastes I really feel like you’d love the tv series jellowjackets. Like LOVE it
Abby Jimenez has good romances!! I recently read just for the summer and gave it 4 stars
Watching your videos always motivates me to read more.... Whenever I'm in a reading slump... I watch your videos.... Thank you for all your efforts.... Love you 💝
