  • In this video, I will show how I pollinate my Trichocereus grandiflorus (Torch Cactus) flowers in order to get a fruit/seed pod to develop. This video was shot in a 3-week duration starting from when the flowers opened until the time the first cactus fruit/cactus seed pod was ready to be harvested. Happy watching! Maraming salamat po.

    Very nice video, Anna! 👍👏 They're such beautiful plants and I like how you showed us how you pollinated and got seedlings. 😍👍👏👏 I went out to my secret garden yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to see my melocact havingi pups around 2 of the mother plants. I guess the berries just dropped off and germinated themselves. But I'm extremely happy about this.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  5 років тому +1

      Really Molly?! You got melocactus seedlings growing without even trying? How lucky are you! I don’t have a melocactus yet. I am hesitant because they don’t like our freezing winter. But I really like how they look!

      @@CactusCaffeine Yes, really Anna. I was so surprised when I was at my backyard yesterday to do some weeding.i thought they were weeds at first as they were quite dark and in clusters. Luckily I looked close and saw they were tiny babies. I'm thinking maybe I should do a video to show how cacti can even self germinate without human intervention like in the wild/desert. I think that the area in which I put them is also very condusive as well. I wish I could share my pups with you, Cacti Mania and Hank's cactus as all 3 of you mentioned about wishing to own one. I've a few big ones and now quite a number of babies. They're so easy to take care of too.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  5 років тому +1

      @@CactusCaffeine I'll save not 1 but a few! ☺️☺️ I might also show my Adenium seedlings growing all over my Fairy Garden. Remember the seed pods on my Adeniums. Well, they burst and flew all over and self germinated as well. That was maybe like 2 months ago and they've grown to about 1-2 in. I didn't bother catching the seeds as I have so many already but since they've grown on their own, I might as well gather them and put them into pots. So I'll do a video on these 2 self sprouting babies soon. 😀😀😀

      Some are self fertile, which means you can get a fruit by pollinating several flowers from the same cactus. But some needs 2 different plants. Some parodias are self fertile, as well as rebutia.

    I watched this again because I have been trying to pollinate my cacti. One issue I’m probably having is that I don’t have multiples of the same cactus. Which cacti can I cross pollinate? Also do you do seed swaps? I’d love some different seeds and I would trade for them. I do have seed pods on a new cactus I bought. I harvested and planted some already but there are more to harvest.
