  • Many of you have been begging us to go back to the Pirates series for a LONG time. Today you get your wish. Dead Man's Chest is almost as terrible as the first Pirates movie is fun. Plenty of sins to be found, as you will see.
    That's it for this week, folks. We're gluttonous Americans, and that means this is a turkey-feasting holiday week. 2 sins vids next week as normal. Happy Thanksgiving.
    Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins do YOU want to see recounted?

      he's eating an apple to look like an asshole. if he just wanted the taste he could have done it while he was upstairs, or really any time before they arrived. but he arrived, waited upstairs without touching the apple, and then took it down to take a bite in front of their face.

      @@rocklebrun7538 It's a movie cliche that has become a Cinemasins running joke. For some reason, filmmakers usually have characters eating something - usually an apple - when they want them to appear glib and only half-interested in what's going on. In this case, it actually thematically fits with Barbossa, since he mentions wanting to eat apples multiple times in the first movie... but it also succeeds in making him look like an asshole XD

    WHY does NO ONE understand Barbosa taking a bite of that apple at the end?!?!??!?!?! It's really simple! In the first movie, he said that the first thing he was going to do once he became un-undead was "eat a whole bushel of apples"; to emphasize that, when he gets shot and becomes un-undead and falls to the ground, they have him randomly holding a green apple in his hand that gets knocked out of his dying grip by his impact with the ground. Here, at last, he finally gets to take a bite of an apple. I mean, it's sin-worthy in its own right, since all the other references to the first movie were, but you didn't get WHY. HOW?!?!?

      John Doe I wasn't just talking about people on this channel. Literally no one I've ever seen see that ending has understood it. My parents didn't, my classmates didn't, NO ONE gets it, and it's REALLY simple! It's like how some people still think the island on Lost was some sort of afterlife, even though the ending showed that the flash-sidewayses were to an afterlife that all the characters created to meet up in AFTER THEY DIED, so they could move on to whatever comes next together, ergo they were alive when they met. I just don't understand how anyone could be so absent-minded and still bother watching TV shows or movies with plots more complicated than Spongebob - they obviously don't understand ANY of what they're seeing, and they don't feel like trying to use their brains to figure it out, why do they even bother watching in the first place? X( SIGH…Sorry, I just get kind of frustrated when people get all confused about something that was very clearly explained to anyone who bothered paying attention. It happens way too often. >.>

      Because of it's over used joke. Captain is a title, just like military rank, mister, miss, misses, miz, docto and many more. When a person earns a title, it is inappropriate to not address them by title or title and last name. Throughout the movies, they don't call Jack "Captain Sparrow" so they can use that correction gag, but they heavily abused it.
      However (!), much of the movies, he doesn't have a ship to captain, so as addressed in the movie, he's not really a captain, ergo, more reason to why it's a bad running joke.

Also I think I'm the only one who UNDERSTANDS THE MOVIES PLOTS! Maybe I'm just weird but I never got why people never understood those movies. Leianization Its called an opinion. Seriously what dictates a movie being definitively good or bad? Your opinion? Jeremy's opinion? Metacritic? the oscars? I like these movies, just cos you don't doesn't make my opinion wrong. And you are fully entitled to yours, but this whole reason of being too complex is like if I said, the Bourne films or Memento are stupid films because they are too complex or the same issue with the MGS story in video games. Mermaids, black beard and the fight scene at the end where Jack inserts a bit of logic and tells the pirates, why fight when they can just sit back let Blackbeard and Barbossa fight each other to the death since that is the only reason they are fighting and not wound maim and kill each other and get ignored.

  • @Wiccanwolf08
    @Wiccanwolf08 9 років тому +107

    Actually, the sin at 11:21 has an explanation, one that was actually in the movie. Jack doesn't have the Black Spot anymore; Davy Jones took it off.
    Jack was supposed to serve on the Flying Dutchman for 100 years as payment for being the captain of the Black Pearl for 13 years. While Jack was only (physically) captain for 2 years, Davy Jones counted the additional years where Jack kept using the title "Captain". Davy Jones tells Jack that in order to pay his debt, he needs to get 100 souls in 3 days. Jack accepts the deal (offers Will Turner as the first soul...because that is how he rolls) and Davy Jones takes the Black Spot off.
    The Kraken attacks The Black Pearl because Davy Jones sent it there, not because it is drawn to the Black Spot.

    • @JLWhiteHorse
      @JLWhiteHorse 9 років тому +2

      Good point. You seem to really know the movie, so correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jack get the Black Spot back before this final scene? And Elizabeth said, "It (Kraken) is after you, not us." I think Elizabeth's line and the fact that she locks Jack up on the Black Pearl always confused me as to who or what the Kraken was really after. After all, Elizabeth was the only one who saw Jack rowing safely away while the boat was being attacked. Unless she was just making an excuse to get rid of someone she was secretly in love with and didn't want to admit it... but that might be reading into things a bit. *shrugs* Whatever the case, I still really enjoy the movies.

      JLWhiteHorse Elizabeth figures out that Jack (not the Black Pearl) was the true target of the Kraken once Jack gave the order to abandon ship. Jack was willing to leave the ship behind, which goes against logic. Combine that with the fact that he ran away earlier, and it wouldn't be too hard to figure out.
      Also, Swann respects Jack, especially after he came back to rescue his crew, but that doesn't mean she loves him or that she is above using him to save herself and the others.
      And the Kraken was sent to the Black Pearl because, logically, Jack would have been there.

    It always bugs me how English speaking people say "the Kraken". Kraken is already the definite form. It comes from the Scandinavian word "krake" which more or less can mean giant octopus, and in Scandinavian languages you add "en" or "et" (depending on the word) to the end of a word to make it definite, and since "krake" ends with an "e" you just add "n". So what you're basically saying when you say "the Kraken" is "the the giant octopus".
    Likewise, you can't say "a Kraken" that's like saying "a the giant octopus". You would instead say "a krake" ("en krake" in Scandinavian languages).
    But I can understand why native English speakers would think "the Kraken" and "a Kraken" sounds right.
    Still bugs me though :P

      ***** You very much can say "release Kraken" since that would be the correct way.
      Also "Non-English speaking people"? I speak English a lot, thank you very much. I'm not a NATIVE speaker of it though.
      And yes, there is only one Krake, that's why it's "Kraken".
      I even ended it with "I can understand why native English speakers would think it sounds better though". And with that, I also meant "use their rules". I know you have different rules for how you use words, so I'm not really sure what your point with your comment was. I just said that personally, it bugs me that you say "the Kraken" since it sounds wrong to Scandinavian ears, I never said it wasn't correct in English.
      The "you can't say" is just me referring to Scandinavian languages and how you can't say "en (a) Kraken" in Swedish, for example.
      If I didn't understand the rules of the English language I wouldn't be able to speak it, mate, or bend words the correct way. Not sure if you meant it as an insult, but it didn't work since I actually have been speaking English for most of my life, we learn it really early here ;) But I will still always have a Scandinavian ear, which is why "the Kraken" sounds wrong to me.

    1:45 He didn't wait down there, he _materialized_ on the ship. The way Davy Jones does it later on, when he visits Calypso aboard the _Black Pearl._ In fact, the primary reason the _Flying Dutchman_'s crew boards ships instead of simply teleporting to them seems to be tradition. They're pirates too, after all.
    5:02 Clark Kent disguises can actually _work,_ you know, although there's a _lot_ more to it than wearing different clothes. Also, a woman pretending to be a man actually _did_ actually happen on pirate ships now and then, with the most famous cases being Mary Read and Anne Bonny.
    7:30 That guy is a part of the ship--like, _physically_ a part of the ship. When he lurches forward to speak to Will, he leaves half of himself behind in the wall. Not to mention he's holding that lamp, and presumably has been doing that for a while now, so technically he _is_ doing work.
    8:37 The last ship the Kraken got hold of was much smaller. This one is a bit bigger, so the Kraken takes more time, but really, it's still more-or-less a curb-stomp battle anyway.
    12:50 They're not about to bring Jack from the Kraken, they're about to bring him _back to life._

    • @JLWhiteHorse
      @JLWhiteHorse 9 років тому +19

      Totally agree. In fact, if people watched the Cinema Sins they did on themselves, they confirm this. However, as a writer I can say watching these videos has made me far more conscientious of my own work. They do have a wonderful way of picking out discrepancies.

    • @JLWhiteHorse
      @JLWhiteHorse 9 років тому +2

      ***** The above comments are not trying to defend the seriousness of CinemaSins. We know it's for laughs and I definitely enjoy the humor of it. However, as writers, we do know that a lot of the discrepancies that are pointed out are very legitimate, allowing us to be more critical of our work so hopefully we can be better at our craft. And, hey, getting entertainment thrown into the deal - awesome job, CinemaSins!

    • @JLWhiteHorse
      @JLWhiteHorse 9 років тому +1

      ***** Yes, and I agree with that, as I've stated. I'm not sure where the confusion is. A lot of the sins are just for fun and not to be taken seriously ie. "no lap dance", "this actress is not my girlfriend", etc. Some of the "sins" however do make one go, hm, yeah that wasn't a good move on the writer's part, such as, "If it's established that the one with the black spot is being hunted, why is the beast never actually going after him even if he's right there ready to eat?" Those are the kinds of things we writers learn from.

    8- Sparrow is a surname, it's not like jack is part bird or anything
    13- what? What are you talking about? What does that mean?
    15- um, he said "will be drawn to the man that HAS the black spot." It's not like the kraken can teleport, can it?
    41- Adrenaline, obviously...
    43- she didn't plan it, she improvised because that's apparently how most things work in this movie
    44- if they're stupid enough to believe that the dress is a ghost, then do you really think they'd notice her?
    52- hello?! short person, big table, isn't it obvious?
    54- this very question is answered in at worlds end
    59- also answered in at worlds end
    66- because mercer is actually looking for her
    68- see at worlds end
    70- he is working, as a lantern holder
    75- no one really cares how the game works at this point
    80- bigger boats are hard to sink
    102- sword practice is basically the only thing they've been doing between this movie and the first
    104- well, yeah, there's dirt everywhere on the seat, the indicator that the jar of dirt has been used
    107- since the first movie
    111- slow reaction time I guess?
    112- krakens are actually quite intelligent
    121- no kraken is perfect
    126- jack was sent to the locker, if the kraken really wanted to eat him that badly it would have done so sooner
    129- does eating apples really make someone an asshole? Are apples just the food symbol of asshole-ism?
    Sin Sin Tally: 22

      What I get from the movie is that you have to guess the total number of 6s that all the players have rolled, all the while trying to convince the other players that you might have a certain number of them in your roll. It's kinda similar to Cheat. DJ calls Bootstrap "a liar and you know it" because while he may seek to convince others that all of his die are 6s, it is too obvious that he is trying to lose because everyone rolling perfect 6s is quite impossible. I don't claim to be correct, but this is the sense of the game that I get when seeing that scene. Do I make any sense? O.o

      Liars dice is an actual dice game and you can find the rules online. I'm not sure do they play with actual rules in the movie, but in real life it's a bit like poker because you have to bluff and count chances.
      I have played it and it's a really funny game once you get it.

    • @TubbierWombat
      @TubbierWombat 9 років тому +1

      dennis20014 From what I remember of Red Dead Redemption:
      Every player starts with 6 die.
      Players 1, 2, and 3 put them in the cup, shake the cup, then put the cup upside down so no one can see their die.
      Player 1 makes a guess that there are "x" number of "x" sided die (the number on the top), then the other players decide whether to increase the number of die they bet there are on the table or they increase what side the die is on and guess any number they want.
      The way Player 1 can do this is to look under their own cup to see how many they have and have more information to make their guesses or to call another player out.
      This is calling a bluff. Player 3 says that there aren't "x" number of "x" sided die on the table.
      Everyone removes the cup exposing their die. They count the total number and see if there are at least "x" number of that die.
      If there are "x" number of die or more, then then Player 3 who called the bluff must take one of their die away. If there are less die than "x", then Player 1 must take their die away and "gets caught bluffing"
      An alternative to calling a bluff, is to say the guess is spot-on, not one die more or one die less. They count them up and if there are more or less, but not equal to Player 1's guess then Player 2 must take a die away. If Player 2 is correct and there are exactly "x" number of die just like Player 1 said, then player 1 and 3 both remove 1 die.
      It's sounds complicated, but it is actually simple and I'm just bad at explaining things.

    you are in actual fact dead wrong about Elizabeth disguising herself as a young boy to stay on board that ship! take one sin away! that was done with surprising frequency in our actual real world history! not just at sea but even on land. women would often enlist in the military disguised as young/teenaged boys with surprising success.

    11:21: Actually, earlier in the movie Jones made Jack agree to collect 100 souls for him, (as Jones thinks Jack's soul is worth 100 souls,) & the Black Spot vanished from his palm. So, actually, the Question is: How, (and when for that matter,) did Jack get the Black Spot back??

    • @miguelcoronado590
      @miguelcoronado590 8 років тому +1

      In the movie, he and Elizabeth were about to kiss, but then the spot reappears on his hand. Around the time where this guy says "teasing". That's when, but I don't know how

    You know, these were nice when you actually pointed out mistakes and flaws with films. Now all you do is analyze every little detail of the plot and actions of the characters, while adding in your own personal opinions. Not to mention, half of these sins shouldn't be here because you failed to understand the context of them. It's like you never even saw the first movie, or have any idea that these movies do not take themselves seriously.
    Sins keep getting higher and higher
    Actual mistakes keep getting overlooked.
    See a problem?

    One of the things that always bugged me about this is that all three fighting could easily have got what they wanted. Norrington needed the compass. Yes the point was to get the chest, but ALL he needed was the compass. Jack wants to force Jones to call off the Kraken. Will wants to save his father by killing Jones. Let that play out, Jones dies meaning the new captain of the Dutchman either gets the Kraken or it dies with him, either way all problems are gone REALLY quick if they think instead of going RIGHT to the swordfight.
