      I was curious too so I looked up some benchmarks. This link (besides being an EXCELLENT resource for all things about laptops) has gaming benchmarks for the MX350. Just scroll down a bit!
      www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-MX350-Laptop-Graphics-Card.448881.0.html
      TLDR: Any newer AAA title can run, but you'll need to turn the graphics / resolution down quite a bit for good framerates. Middle range games like overwatch, LoL, Valorant, fortnite, apex, etc will run nicely with the MX350 at medium settings / native resolutions. Older games will run like a dream. This card is comparable to the old 960m, and it's a bit below the 1050.

      I have this model and its decently capable of gaming with the mx350. Here's what I experienced while gaming on it. Gta5 on normal preset was almost solid 60fps. Borderlands 2 on medium was 60 fps. A Way Out on medium was around 50 to 30fps. So in general I found lighter modern games, and older PC games are very playable on this laptop. I'd also note this is all this was with the charger plugged in. When running on battery power performance tended to drop quite a bit in gaming with gta getting major lag spikes but this may be due to me having windows set be balance performance on battery and max performance on charge.

    In no way would I recommend the idea pad over this machine lol. I bought this laptop on the same BestBuy deal for my wife. It’s crazy how good this laptop is for the price I paid. I swapped out the 256 for a 512 NVME and still paid less than any other laptop in its price range. The addition of the MX350 and Color accurate display is enough to recommend it over laptops that cost more. The MX350 is actually a decent gaming card considering the panel is only 60hz. I played GTA 5 in medium settings at 1080p and was getting around 70-75 FPS. Honestly, For those who are looking at getting the Acer Nitro or a cheap gaming laptop, (depending on the situation) I’d probably recommend this laptop instead for gaming. You won’t get as good of a GPU, but you’re getting an more color accurate display, a more portable and better looking laptop, and battery life that can last all day, if not more. It’s amazing how good these laptops are getting.

      Can confirm that the MX350 was a surprising upgrade over the MX150/250, I plugged it into my 1440p monitor and played World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2 and in most cases can hit 60fps, lowering settings would have assured me a rock solid 60fps, that's insane for the price.

      D F On “Intelligent Cooling” (the recommended default), the fan brrs a little bit when I’m watching UA-cam and browsing the web. Nothing that bad or unusual. I have a Macbook Air (those are silent) and the Ideapad will stand out to me more because of my experience. You can turn on Lenovo’s battery saver mode and it’ll make the laptop very very quiet with fan noise, but usually I wear headphones so the normal Intelligent Cooling fan noise isn’t really a bother to me.

    READ THIS BEFORE BUYING THIS LAPTOP
    DaVinci Resolve doesn't play well with Nvidia MX 350. By default it uses OpenCl and enables two graphic cards (Vega 6 and MX350) which causes MASSIVE stutters on playback, memory issues and renders this laptop UNUSABLE as an editing machine.
    To SOLVE this you have to enable CUDA in DaVinci:
    1. Update your drivers to the newest version from Nvidia website (don't use MyAsus app, it doesnt't have this option). And drivers out of the box just don't work!
    2. Update your Resolve to version 17. Version 16 has NASTY playback problems (no image or flickering image).
    3. Manually enable MX350 as rendering card in DaVinci Resolve settings.
    Like this comment so more people could see it!
    P. S. Josh, I hope you will like this advice too :). I bought this laptop because of your video (your videos are great!) and only after a day of triyng different settings I have found this solution.

    I bought this laptop for 700$ before it went on sale to use for school and loved it's performance especially for the price. This laptop was also very capable for gaming when it came to lighter titles or older titles. "ex. gta5 ran at an almost solid 60fps on the normal preset." All that being said after about a week and a half the ssd failed and I had to return it and get a new one. I'm assuming I just got unlucky and my first one had a failing ssd but I can't say for sure. So as long as drive failure isn't a common problem with this laptop, for the price I feel the performance is pretty unbeatable especially since I didn't want to spend 1000 or more and I also didn't want a bulky gaming laptop.

    I bought this when it was on sale a week ago for $550 and so far it’s been better than I ever dreamed, yes it could use more RAM and better SSD but at least the RAM IS dual channel and the SSD upgradable. The performance is incredible for the price and even played Rise of the Tomb Raider at 720p medium settings at 45-50Fps.

      The MX350 is actually 25W of TDP, which is just 10w shy of the much more capable 1650 Max Q found in the much more (graphically) capable Blade Stealth from last year. Additionally, it has a much more capable screen for creative work and a much more travel oriented USB C PD based charger. It's funny, ASUS would've done far better to just bump up to a 4700u or 4800u SKU in this notebook and implement C charging than to include the shitty MX Nvidia at all.

      @@alexsurber9404 First what the hell are you thinking comparing a $1500 laptop vs a budget $550 laptop? A Lamborghini would definitely beat a Toyota Camry. That is a stupid comparison. What next are you going to next? Compare this to the Nitro 5? A ultrabook vs a gaming laptop? Yeah right. And why are you putting TDP and SKU there is litterally no reason then trying to show how "smart" you are. If the 1650 has 35w TDP that just means it can get more hot and dissipate it. And SKU? Just say the model numbers. No reason in complicating things. Plus usb c charging? The power brick is really small. Just a cube and a cable really portable. Whats the point? Also the vega 6 heck even vega 7 graphics dont beat the mx350 please do the research next time.

    • @alexsurber9404
      @alexsurber9404 4 роки тому

      @@user-qk8rt9yf9v You can get it for $1000 on ebay, the comparison is more about the fact that the MX 350 is a waste of space in any device sporting a Ryzen though. You must be dense, that flew right over you and your spongebob profile pic. The MX350 at 25w TDP is absolutely purposeless in any device, fight me.
      Also, despite you being incompetent when it comes to tech, SKU and TDP are common acronyms, so you'd do well to learn what you're talking about before you try to flex your knowledge. You are the embodiment of the dunning kruger effect, you think you understand tech but you're equally as incompetent as a boomer. Leave the understandings to people who can grasp the concepts, child.
      Also, you might be too much of a screeching ape to do math, but give it a try, what's 15 + 25? It is greater than 35? Oof, there's your argument dead in the water, the 35w Ryzen APUs absolutely beat out anything an MX series is capable of and do it while requiring less overall power too. In fact, I'd wager that limited to the 25w TDP of the Nvidia graphics alone that a 4800hs would slam the MX350 into the ground, I'll be sure to do some testing just for you though.
      Lastly, C charging is universal in both cables and bricks, it must not make sense to a basement dweller who would never be caught dead travelling but someday you might get to a point where you'll understand. Here's to hoping spongebob, nobody's holding their breath though. Try proofreading next time ape, you've got some grammar and spelling issues to grapple with before you try talking down to someone clearly more informed than you are.

For some reason this stops all audio all together, so you need to go back into it and select the option in advance settings in Realtek audio control panel... • @arco718
      @arco718 4 роки тому

      @@breyerhorsestudios2964 well that is the model I have so you are in luck! There are a few things you need to consider, first off the specs of this machine will certainly be enough for you do photo editing (I don't video edit so I'm not too sure about that, however I imagine it will do fine). The screen is great, from what I have read online it appears to be very colour accurate and has wide coverage, my own experience backs this up. You should still look into it in order to make sure it is up to your standard. With regards to gaming, it's pretty competent, I play some older titles like siege, fallout 4, civ v, and newer ones like fall guys, Minecraft, and rocket League. All of those will play 1080p low setting at 60fps with the right cooling (some less intensive games play high settings no problem). You will need a cooling pad with this machine, frame rates drop off after a few minutes in game because the cooling solution isn't great, however I have found that using a cooling pad keeps the thermals really low (the bottom of the chassis is metal and works as a large heatsink). All in all, I love this machine. I have had it for a few weeks now and I do not regret it at all, it's build quality is fantastic, the screen is bright and the edge to edge display is really something else, the cpu is very fast for a mobile chip, and the keyboard is pretty good. I would 100% recommend this laptop, if you have any other questions just let me know!
      Note: just wanted to clarify that frame rates are not horrible without a cooling pad, I was gaming on it without a cooling pad for about a week and it worked fine. I'm just recommending a cooling pad in order to get maximum performance.

For me it might make more sense to wait a few weeks to see if the Asus Rog zephyrus lower version with 4800 HS chip falls to about 1,200 Canadian dollars. It has everything I want but my budget isn't 1800 right now

    This laptop still Wows me at what it is capable at! The zenbook can run medium level AA games, and I often use it to run unity and make VRChat avatars and it gets the job done.
    Edit: You missed a big point. The chassis of the laptop is indeed aluminum and not plastic.

    My problem when people or companies say "creators" is that a computer for a creator has a wide range of needs. This laptop will not work for any content creator who deals in 3D or VFX.

    Great review. Josh if you were stuck on an island for 6 months that had one power outlet, needed one laptop to watch UA-cam, do some video editing and start a few businesses, which one laptop would you take?
