It's noticeable that on the German Lenovo site you can remove Windows (-€60), but the 4800U CPU upgrade costs €180.00 as opposed to £100.00 and only Bluetooth 4.1 is available on the Wireless card. I couldn't order the 70Whr battery either, only the 57Whr. Still an amazing deal from UK Lenovo though. Just wish I could get rid of Windows.
Yes, I was pretty impressed with the options available: cpus, ram, screen, power, palm rest etc. All very cheap. I virtually maxed this one out (apart from SSD as most of my work is cloud based) and still came in under 700.
Now, when the AMD is taking over, are there any similar laptops to this one, in budget under 1000€, with screen good enough for photo editing and hardware than could take light gaming? Love the video btw, you apparently put a lot of effort into it. Keep it going!
I ordered this laptop for 675 euros (install honey it gives you a 10% discount!!!) specs: 4800u, 16gb ram, 1080p display with the thin bezels no touch (Idk about the colour accuracy thou), metal palm rest, no windows 10, 70w battery, 512 nvme, no hdd, wifi 6 and a 95 watt usb c charger!!!!
While I agree, AMD has a significant design limitation holding these chips back. They dedicate 8 lanes to the IGP, so there are only 8 left for a discrete GPU, and they are 3.0 so next gen cards will not even fix it. They really should have included a chipset option to direct all 16 lanes to the GPU instead of forced bifurcation.
Incredibly helpful! I've been researching what laptop to buy for my son entering high school. I watched a lot of videos including many of yours. Lmao they are literally destroying intel in almost all areas, not long until they push their mobile gpus and then it's game over in both desktop/mobile competition!
@ageofbogyo Agreed that intel has typically been able to crush amd, but I think this is going to be a repeat of the ryzen launch, these are still amd's low power laptop cpus. Amd once again is leapfrogging their tech. That on top of the fact that when you own basically all the market you can really only loose epesically in the face of tough competition which if we can be honest is something intel has not had to contend with in years.
G S I just purchased this laptop. It’s display may be great compared to most budget laptops. But I was trying to replace a 900 dollar ASUS gaming laptop from 2014 and the viewing angles are horrible.
Ordered this laptop on Sunday night, with same specs, but 256GB SSD and no fingerprint reader or touchscreen. - £494 with a £50 off voucher for purchases over £500. Really looking forward to this laptop arriving!
I do like your question at the end “why are we paying so much for ‘premium’ laptops?” I look at the performance numbers for the MacBook Air and hear people give them positive review because of the “fit and finish” of the body and think “that’s an expensive paper weight.”
software optimization with hardware accelerated. Yes RAW performance windows will win. but for example Video Editing Playback and other thing its just so smooth in MAC.
Infinite Stratos Not on the MacBook Air. Pretty much every reviewer who spoke about the MacBook error said it was only good for browsing the web. They specifically said you don't want to edit videos on it, you don't wanna edit photos on it you pretty much don't wanna do anything that most people buy a Mac for on it. When the arm base Macs come out, I think your statement will be true. The majority transistors on Apple's Arm SOCs are used in accelerators. But the Intel MacBook Air is hot garbage.
You missed one question at the end: If Lenovo can put a matte touchscreen into a budget laptop, why can't they and everyone else put one into their top end and business line up by default?
I configured an ideapad 5 with Ryzen 7 4800 CPU, Full HD Touchscreen IPS Display, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB ssd 1 tb HDD and all the other extras for about 630$

the advantage of having the charge port on the right side is it will not interfere with a mouse. i find that significantly better that you do not have to deal with a wire getting in the way of your mouse than you might potentially have a wall outlet on the left side. however i must say this level of detail provided in this video, for a youtuber with only 25k subs!!!! you are a hidden treasure. thank you for the review you have assured me i have ordered a good laptop, ironically to replace my HP Envy 2500u, a premium laptop to a budget one, yet in every performance metric it gets slaughtered. in the UK we could customise them without windows, they soon removed that after it got popular on HUKDs

Just got released here in Japan. It's marketed as the Lenovo Ideapad Slim 550. Has the same specs as yours in the video except with Ryzen 4700u.. For anyone in Japan wondering, I love this laptop, it's really great especially since Japan seems to be behind in releasing Ryzen 4000 based laptops. PROS: - Ryzen 4700u - Display is decent and definitely bright enough for indoor use - Cooling is great as Josh mentioned - Keyboard is great (although the only option here in Japan was the JIS array, which could be better if it were just a standard English style) - Speakers are totally acceptable for me, and I'm an audiophile - Charges pretty quickly CONS: - No option for 16GB RAM when I bought it - Heavy price tag of 120,000 JPY, which is about $1000 - Color inaccurate display, but I don't notice as I use it for casual entertainment and work
Thanks for your comment, mate. After watching this video and reading a few comments I picked the one with 4500u and 16gigs of ram. I sold my 12gb 3500u model for almost MSRP 3 months after I bought it because this deal is just too good. These processors beat 10th gen i7s!

Thanks for the review. I just ordered the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 for €629 - that's with the 4500U CPU and 16GB RAM. Crazy value. Also, I don't mind the less than perfect monitor, anyone who's into photo editing will surely have a dedicated monitor for it - as do I.
I just ordered 4 of these my wife's work. Glad to see such a positive review.
How is the battery life on them? I noticed that's the one thing the reviewer forgot to mention here, or I just didn't pay attention.
Wow, finally someone with in depth reviews on laptops. Feel like almost all laptop reviewers just go over some basic benchmarks and call it a day. This was very informative thank you.

All for less than £700! Incredible to think that this will be a pound lighter, smaller and roughly twice as fast as my 2015 Macbook Pro 15 (which cost £2500).
Hi, Does the laptop have an extra DIMM slot to increase the RAM later in near future?
Now, when the AMD is taking over, are there any similar laptops to this one, in budget under 1000€, with screen good enough for photo editing and hardware than could take light gaming?

I hope Lenovo - and every other laptop maker - rapidly adopt AMD across their ranges. Not just one or two token (however good) models.

I do like your question at the end “why are we paying so much for ‘premium’ laptops?”
I look at the performance numbers for the MacBook Air and hear people give them positive review because of the “fit and finish” of the body and think “that’s an expensive paper weight.”
software optimization with hardware accelerated.
Yes RAW performance windows will win. but for example Video Editing Playback and other thing its just so smooth in MAC.
Infinite Stratos
Not on the MacBook Air.
I just found this channel. And I love it.
You missed one question at the end:
If Lenovo can put a matte touchscreen into a budget laptop, why can't they and everyone else put one into their top end and business line up by default?

the advantage of having the charge port on the right side is it will not interfere with a mouse. i find that significantly better that you do not have to deal with a wire getting in the way of your mouse than you might potentially have a wall outlet on the left side.
however i must say this level of detail provided in this video, for a youtuber with only 25k subs!!!! you are a hidden treasure. thank you for the review you have assured me i have ordered a good laptop, ironically to replace my HP Envy 2500u, a premium laptop to a budget one, yet in every performance metric it gets slaughtered. in the UK we could customise them without windows, they soon removed that after it got popular on HUKDs

Hey there. Where did you buy it? Thanks!
And two weeks later, it’s sold out. That was fast.
PROS:
- Ryzen 4700u
- Display is decent and definitely bright enough for indoor use
- Cooling is great as Josh mentioned
- Keyboard is great (although the only option here in Japan was the JIS array, which could be better if it were just a standard English style)
- Speakers are totally acceptable for me, and I'm an audiophile
- Charges pretty quickly
CONS:
- No option for 16GB RAM when I bought it
- Heavy price tag of 120,000 JPY, which is about $1000
- Color inaccurate display, but I don't notice as I use it for casual entertainment and work
Thanks for your comment, mate. After watching this video and reading a few comments I picked the one with 4500u and 16gigs of ram. I sold my 12gb 3500u model for almost MSRP 3 months after I bought it because this deal is just too good. These processors beat 10th gen i7s!

@Munandarif this laptop has soldered ram with no slots for additional ram, which means that it's not user or manufacturer upgradeable, you are stuck with the ram that you bought the laptop with forever. as for dual channel, the ram is configured in 4+4 or 8+8 in the 8gb and 16 gb respectively. have in mind that vega integrated graphics use part of the ram to improve performance so you will have less than 7gb of user available ram. hope that helps you
