Great video 🙂. I just recently got a chance to take the train, but from the other direction and was watching your video before the trip. Really helpful, although during our trip, they didn't wash the dome car which was unfortunate.
Thank you so very much for recording this a d sharing this video here. I have not been on a train ride like this where you get to see so very much of the country and landscape in between cities and towns. So very much beautiful scenery!
We took our children on the Canadian, granted many years ago. It being a CNR train back then, we traveled through Ontario's north-land, i.e. bush. (The CPC train, with dome car, ran along the waterfront to Fort William/Port Arthur, now Thunder Bay) There was no dome car until Edmonton. We started through the Rockies from Jasper just at dark and could only see the car's lights reflected off the dome. (The CPR train left Lake Louise at 1 pm - midday) We were dropped off at 1 am, at a tiny shack - Kamloops Station. (One electric light and a phone. Taxi was reluctant to come out there for us at that time of night.) Arriving in town we turned a corner in front of the CPR station and stopped at our David Thompson ( the young Hudson Bay company man who drew the map given to Lewis and Clark by general Grant which laid out the whole area of the north-west states - and whose name I never heard in my school years.) motel. Last I heard the Canadian was still using the CNR route.
At about the 39 minute mark is an area where I got my first full time job as a diamond driller. That was back in 1974. Four years later I met my lovely wife. My mother in law believes in psychics and one day we were having tea and my mother in law told me her psychic told her that I worked in exploration (something I never told her ) and that if I would have stuck it out I would have become rich. I told her that I never worked in exploration, not thinking about my time diamond drilling. Then one day I was thinking about what she said and realized that, yeah I was a diamond driller. That's exploration!! I never forgot what my mother in law said. Like I said, I never told her about having been a diamond driller. Here it is 44 years later and I wonder sometimes if I missed my chance to make lots of money. Today I am on disability due to multiple sclerosis living on a small pension. I am happy though. I make the best of my situation and I am still married to that beautiful lady I met 40 years ago. Life is good!

I checked it all over and noted its clarity even if it was 'frosted' somewhat..... I tossed it and finished what I was doing and then it was back to work. A number of years later an exploration company hit paydirt on that station and set up on the stock exchange as 'Ellendale Diamond Mining'. Their geologists had discovered the so called pipes coming up through the earth and so the massive open cut diamond mine was underway. I'm going to die wondering but not losing any sleep. My adventures as a young man in that type of wilderness, no amount of riches could ever buy. I now live a very humble life but in beautiful hill country and with all I've known and seen and had in all my life, I'm also as blessed as you seem to be as well. God bless you..... And how many bits did you leave down those holes all up? When I do this journey before I die, I'll look for where you once were at the mark 39:00.
I feel bad for the young lady. She is trying to do her job surrounded by people who don't give a shit. Most of the people shown in this video seem to be obsessed with the train itself or the rolling stock rather than the scenery. If you are not looking at, or enjoying the scenery then get the hell out and allow the people who want to see the majestic views to see them.
I'm amazed at the number people playing with devices and missing all that glorious scenery....what a waste of time and money. There are those that would love to go on that trip to see the scenery and cant .Nice video though thanks
Scenery is breathtaking. If the train leaves at 3PM, Vancouver; how can you see this at night? The light is usually till 7:30 PM to 8 PM! I am surprised to watch this long recording.

hi. i am ross johnson. i have travelled across canada on via rail canadian 81 trips. i am currently the most travelled passenger in the history of VIA. If you take economy class no bed or meals included just a seat you can be looking at up to $1,900 round trip.. By far the sleeping car accomodations are better than the economy seating becuase you have a bed to go to at night, a shower to clean yourself and meals included with the exception of alcoholic beverages which are at your own expense. the rounfd trip for an upper berth discounted is around $2,690 in peak season or $2,261.70 in off peak season. in the off peak season the trains are shorter and less people are traveling plus you if are in sleeper class can acess the flagship park car 24/7. the lower berth actually has a window beside your bed and another good thing about the lower berth is that the bed is big enough to fit two people so if you have a female companion you both wuill generally fit in the lower berth together or if not the lower is like a double bed and very comfortable. for more private accomodations cabins are the next best thing. cabins for one for one person or doubles for two and on some departures there maybe a cabin for 3 but those tend to be far and few in between since the parkcar is now converted to the prestige class. and if you really want to shell out do the prestige bu ti warn you it could break your bank. it sits at nearly ten grand CDN one way. feel free to puruse my face book page. i hope the youtube host doesnt mind this link facebook.com/groups/trainenthus/

I thought Canada is a developed and first-world country like European countries, the US, Japan, South Korea, Australia, News Land, and Singapore with the western standard, and also I thought is one of the best. The first time 2018 I arrived in Vancouver, I was shocked. I saw a lot of homelessness, trash, crime, ugly urbanism, and rusty houses in downtown and east Vancouver. I saw, homeless people, pooping and peeing everywhere and it's so common. nobody cares. I was shocked again. I endured for 3 years but every day going worst. late in 2022I decided to move to the east coast because I thought that place has a stronger culture. I chose Montreal. I had heard it is the capital of art and civilization in Canada. it was absolutely wrong. Canada is Canada. I was shocked again, again, and again. the wave of homelessness, graffiti, vandalism, bad smell, terrible infrastructure especially roads in or out of the city, and above all, you can see trash everywhere. plastic bags, tissues, water bottles, and disposable cups. You cannot see any street or park or public place without these. This is impossible. surprisingly nobody cares. neither the people nor the government!!!!!!! please, don't be fooled by the advertisement about a good Canada. please, be careful. most of the things about a good Canada are deception.
How can they say across Canada you're starting from Toronto to Vancouver there's none for much at all to Vancouver so how can they say it's Cross Canada is Quebec and that's it we're not in Canada

The reason it looks like "gods waiting room" is because those folks are the only ones who could afford that class of service! The average cost of Sleeper Class Plus from Toronto to Vancouver with layovers along the way is about $11K. Notice there were no middle aged or people of color.

I think shes cute, nothing wrong with her speech,just optimistic. My Sister( English) married a Canadian Soldier in WW2 and went back with him and had a good life, his name was Cavell no relation to Edith Cavell as far as I know. he passed away but my sister over 90 is still alive in Montreal .
Gave up watching this after a half hour. Had to turn the sound off way before that. Great scenery but these rich old 60 and 70 year-olds are not my people. I rode Via Rail from Toronto to Halifax back in 2010. Had some gross seat mates between Toronto and Montreal. One was a borderline alcoholic derelict and the other was a crazy, garrulous stripper! I didn't realize there's a 1st class accommodation that gives you a seat in an observation car. I am definitely not a 1st class person. Still, that derelict and stripper were not very nice either. Incredible bad luck. The ride from Toronto to Halifax was nice.

No meals bed or shower access included. For $150 more based on availability the cheapest sleeper class accomodation is upper berth discounted fare with a refund or exchange fee of $100 plus taxes after the 24 hour grace period immediately after purchase. Upper berth discounted fare has full access to showers dome cars and the dining car meals included. Park car access in peak season is restricted to Sleeper plus passengers on departures from Vancouver and Toronto and onboard except between the hours of 4pm and 11pm daily. I speak based on experience of extensive travel aboard the Via Rail Canadian of which I have completed 99 trips.
