I assure you that it is not just the Japanese who find it awkward having to share a table at meal times!. I think North Americans are better attuned to this but, if you are an uptight Englishman (such as yours truly) it can be a palace of embarrassment, when all I would want is peace and time to watch the world roll by. Incidentally, great that you are showing more of your face these days - it makes your channel more familial and “cosy.” (Dylan, of Dylan’s Travel Reports, took the leap into showing his face a couple of years ago and it makes his content more relatable). Anyway, thanks for a great video!

My dad use to work on the stream trains shovelling coal into the furnace ..he was called the fireman. Then he did his exams and became a train driver. He would drive passenger trains to the boarder then switched to driving very long freight trains. His family had a free rail pass to travel on any train in Australia, but he only used the pass one time because every time he tried to sleep he would wake up in a cold sweat thinking he fell asleep driving 😂 He retired from the railways and passed away 15 years later but every time I see a train I think of him. 🕊️ RIP Dad

Thank you for this video - it brought back many wonderful memories. In 1977 (!) I took this train from Vancouver to Montreal on what was then Canadian National. The train left Monday evening at 8 AM and arrived Montreal on Friday about 11 AM. In Sudbury the train was split into two sections, one for Toronto and the other for Montreal. I had a similar compartment (then called a roomette) and it was a trip of a lifetime. It stopped for 30 minutes in Jasper which was getting the first snowfall of the year (this was in October) and also for 1 hour in Winnipeg. Videos such as this bring back great memories.

Seeing the "Last Spike" photo in the video, capturing the moment the final nail was hammered into the railway, I couldn't help but reflect deeply. The photo, filled with the faces of white men, strikingly lacks the presence of any Chinese individuals. It's a stark reminder of the forgotten sacrifices in our history. Over 600 Chinese laborers are estimated to have lost their lives constructing this railway, yet their contributions seem to be missing from this iconic moment. It's a poignant reminder that history often tells only part of the story, and it's up to us to remember and honor all those who have shaped our past, not just the ones who were captured in the photographs. Canada's railways should consider adding a historical description next to such photos to remind the world to not forget and to be inclusive of all who contributed.

SHARON SHNEYER, I'm glad I just discovered your channel. I love all things Canadian (well figure skating, rail passenger trains and wildlife). I'm a former rail and transit activist here in the Southeastern Pennsylvania area in the US.
I was grateful several decades ago when I was in my twenties to spend a month in Canada. I took the train from Toronto (my favorite city), to Cochrane, Ontario. It was an overnight trip. I spent a few days in Cochrane where I took the Polar Bear Express from Cochrane to Mossinee, a one day trip which was approximately 2 1/2 hours up each way, and we had 5 hours there. That is where the James Bay starts. There is at least one hotel where you can stay. I am still in awe of Cochrane. I spent a week in Toronto, a few days in Ottawa, and a week in Montreal, where I took a one day bus trip to Quebec where I tried to relive my childhood memories when my parents had taken me there decades early where we spent a couple of days.
I don't know if the aforementioned trains still exist, but it was magical!!! I always tell people who are younger than me (I'm 64), that if you're going to do any traveling do it when you are younger, because you never know what will happen once you get older. There are always cheapie ways to do things. ANY SORT of traveling is not possible these days because of both medical and financial situations.

Nicely done! And I love the ambient sound as opposed to annoying jabber and music. Re the train, unlike grungy Amtrak the windows are clean!

As usual, Kuga-san, you have outdone yourself in presenting the beauty of train-travel in great splendor (with great cinematography, too!) ❤️!
I have seen and hiked in the U.S. Rockies, but in some ways the Canadian Rockies are even more dramatic 🇨🇦!
Thank you so much for another great ride-along adventure 🥰!

I've always wondered...Do you tell the people you are dining with that you'll be filming? 🤔 Or do they ever ask you why you film? Also, 12:35 is stunning! I did the Montreal>Halifax trip on VIA Rail many years ago - it was a fantastic experience!

Welcome to Canada! Been following your channel for a while and I'm so glad you are visiting and enjoying the amazing rail journeys we have to offer here. I took the Toronto to Vancouver trip on The Canadian about 10 years ago and it was incredible (and yes, the food was fantastic too!). Looking forward to seeing your journey to Churchill, Manitoba - that one has been on my bucket list for a while!

Thanks for another great video! Hope you had a great journey. Although for the money you paid I am amazed there wasn’t a turn down service - that you had to prepare your own bed.
Looks like a beautiful way to cross a stunning country, but that price is hefty.
Edit - also, if you need the toilet during the night, you have to raise then lower the bed?!
