Sun Bean might be underrated but Sun-Shroom has the best lore for a plant imo: He hates the sun so much that it tries to get it off from himself quickly as possible. His pure hatred for a literal star is unmatched...
I really liked using Sun Bean in Dark Ages, then completely forgot about him for the next 294 years and it hasn't even been a year since I last completed Adventure Mode.
I think my opinion on sun bean certainly changed. For the purposes of choosing the plants that best fit for an adventure level, the Jurassic marsh argument is certainly very strong in favor for it
Neat! I used to really enjoy Sunbean…until Solar Sage came out. It really is just a better Sunbean in every area…even the skill and timing required to use it effectively. Still, I found this video really _enlighten-mint-ing!_ I never realized how useful the bean bro was as a counter for Jurassic March. Also, might I recommend you covering some of the monthly new plants in the documentary style as well? It would be epic to see an analysis of really cool plants like Hocus crocus 🌸
Sun Bean is a good support plant in the middle of the game filled with tanks if you need a burst of sun. It's also a good support sun producer providing you have used it on the right zombie. It doesn't fair well in crowds as a weak zombie can eat it instead.
One of the biggest advantages of sun bean is how good it is when you grow it in the zen garden. It’s an insta kill that doesn’t care about health, so it’s useful in penny’s pursuit
I originally noticed the potential of sun bean in eclice. Then I tried it in vanilla and realized that it is actually kinda good. (This happened with some other plants too. Plants that are really slept on include banana launcher, chili bean, gold leaf, thyme warp, celery stalker, perfume-shroom, fume-shroom, stunion, rotobaga, an many more)
Playing mods made me really value sun bean This thing is like the second sun producer you need but without worrying about the space or why gold bloom is now premium instead from a quest Like everything else you have to work with him and to know what you are doing and you will be rewarded nicely
Damn actually a cool video, I definitely was someone who trashed on sun bean pretty much exactly for why you said, the permanent sun producers tend to be good enough to not need the extra sun that sun bean provides, definitely interested in more plant videos, I remember one plant I got awakened to when I played last was rotobaga who I previously discounted but might actually be better than starfruit
I agree, most of my strats are centered around early game, and getting sun production going as soon as possible, even if it takes 5 seed slots, a few lawnmowers, and the plant food I should probably save for the first wave. Having potato mine, sun shrooms, puff shrooms, iceberg lettuce, etc is really valuable to get your sun snowballing fast enough to lay down winter melons or whatever quickly.
again with the eye-openers! I never really used Sun Bean since most places have sky-sun so he didn't seem too useful. but smth like a Sun Bean only run would be pretty fun to see!
absolutely underrated plant, it with immitater and/or intensive carrot is a blast to produce sun. stacking on top of a common bucket boy is profit all around, highly recommended
It's really nice to see such lively and authentic pvz content again! But given I haven't played the game in awhile (started some time before the free goldbloom/aloe and ended around when the last mint was released), I was wondering If the game is still good, cause I heard it become ad heavy, and it just lost its charm. Hopefully I'm proven wrong :D
Personally, I still enjoy the game a lot! Sure, the team _has_ made some rather questionable decisions, but honestly, that doesn't stop me from enjoying it.
Dude, the moment I met your channel a couple months ago I was like “what the hell are these opinions lmfao literal garbage” but I COMPLETELY changed my mind after rewatching your videos and reevaluating your points made, one by one. Every single video you drop is not just a bias shoved into your face like “Sun bean is amazing git gud” but it’s a video full of FACTS AND EVIDENCE. That’s why I will continue to watch you dropping bombshells to people that just heard from someone inexperienced that “omg cabbage is SO much better than peashooter” when it clearly isn’t (btw that tierlist video was hilarious so many kids were SO ANGRY in the comments that you butchered the “godsend of a plant” lightning reed and more, even though I and lots more COMPLETELY agreed with that statement). Keep making bangers ❤
Great video! I pretty much always use Sun bean in Penny’s Pursuit as it essentially neutralizes 2 of the biggest obstacles of the entire game mode. The increased zombie HP gives me more sun with which to build up my defenses & also provides me with enough sun to be able to instakill the more annoying zombies before they make me rage quit with their sheer obnoxiousness. Also his PF ability instakilling whatever zombie it affects is pretty nice as it lets me immediately cash out on that sweet 200+ sun with which to spam even more Pokras & Explode-o-vines. :)
Really? The slow recharge and the fact that it doesn't produce sun directly just makes me don't want to use it. It's only useful when you feed a tough zombie but that's pretty much it. I don't know why this plant is even introduced in the first place
Sun Bean was always one of my favorites just because of the gimmick but I also always thought it was useful, just not necessarily the best. Having it boosted makes it more efficient than most other sun producers in the game, discounting boosting those other sun producers (Boosting Sun-shroom is just discount Gold Bloom). Plus, it's just a cool concept. I love harvesting resources from my enemies' pain!
I absolutely rocked using Sun Bean as my sun producer but since more and more zombies have the ability to destroy or move plants instead of eating it (especially in Neon Mixtape Tour), I use it less often.
I mean I guess if you think 200 sun profit and killing the zombie is better than 475 sun then so be it. I think more sun is better though, however gold bloom is premium so yeah.
after the mods i really saw sunbean's value, sometimes its better to have something like sunshroom sunbean than sunshroom sunflower/primal "im not gonna lose sleep over someone's opinion on a virtual fruit" you fucking legend
Ok, now i found how i will play the game. The only things left are deciding between the bean only for the sun and magnifying grass and getting the bean
Bro just changed my perspective of sun bean. 7 years of playing the game, Never knew sun bean can stack on a zombie. U convinced me that it is pretty underated tho I would still be using sun shrooms or primal sunflower
Anyone gonna mention his nerf? He used to give sun directly based on the zombies health, now it’s just sun added to a set amount of zombie health (In layman’s terms, a fossilhead zombie won’t give sun when hurt after a certain point)
He did say that he thinks Gold Leaf isn’t that bad if I remember right and ranked him quite high in his tier list just because he is useful in Lost City. But that was before the nerf
I think it fits best if you have the opening to use a seed slot for more sun production. Since it doesnt take up space on the field, including it in your loadout just generally means you're producing more sun. It's always going to be at least somewhat beneficial, unlike an extra attacker you don't need, for example. This extra sun often isn't too important, so running one more insta for flexibility is often more valuable, but particularly on levels with limited sun access, like night levels, or ones where you don't have much space, like mold colonies, it can make the level just that much easier.
I think the strategy to make the sun bean a useful plant is kinda boring in my opinion, but I totally understand your point. Good vid man, I'm loving these analysis
I’d personally say blover is the Jurassic counter since you know it makes the dinosaurs actively benifit you by letting you instant kill zombies even more then when you have to launch zombies into the air manually. Also the fact that spamming instants works so well for most ingame levels really doesn’t do sunbean any favors when 1 slot on sun is enough for you to use all your instants and walls as in such loadouts you’d literally never have anything to spend the sun from sunbean on unless you brought lightning reed for things like chickens that are fast or primal peashooters as a backup launch to backup your chard guard but you don’t need a whole board of those just like a column and if you have enough instants it works well to just fill your lineup with 1 sunproducer chard guard blower combo and the rest instants. The main problem levels for such loadouts limit amount of units that die levels also screw sunbean too so it’s not like a level that forces you to swap off this would encourage sunbean
Sun bean does fair a bit better in mods, where plants have costs going up to 2000 sun, also some have a different sun meta where you get half of what you normally get in pvz2 and any supplementary source of sun is a godsend.
I loved how well this plant worked back in the day, and then the mints were implemented. The mint that buffs sun plants is to this day EXTREMELY broken with sun shrooms, they grow instantly and drop sun twice as fast when the mint is placed down, any other sun producing plant just stays back. Sad.
I love the new direction your going in with your analytical videos I like to play them in the background while I learn about things in pvz I never even knew about. Im very sure most people uses celery stalker. The problem is that it doesn't hide quick enough after killing a zombie.

And don't forget the fact that you can only use it in lost City.
I love light and shadow-based plants, I find it weird the fact Magnifying Grass is not classified as a light element.
