My goodness 51 years ago in 1972 I was an 18-year-old teen rocking and rolling and dancing to this song at my high school senior prom. Now I am a 70-year-old man and senior citizen watching others enjoy the music of my youth. Awesome stuff ladies. Allways liked your choice of songs and the reactions to them. Note: After 51 years I never realized that the undercover agent who's working for the FBI was Shot. That is why the DA man and the "The Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" was holding him up by the hands and arms. Telling her she will be spared. WoW!
I was at their first live gig in 1962, it was at the Oasis club, Manchester, and I was young 18 year old, never thought I would be listening to them 60 years later. Thanks for the memory.
"Bus Stop" was written by the legendary Graham Gouldman about his own experience riding the bus to and from his dad's shop where he worked. He also wrote the huge hits "For Your Love", "Heart Full Of Soul", and "Evil Hearted You", for the Yardbirds. Another Hollies hit he wrote was "Look Through Any Window". He went on to form the group 10CC and penned many of their hits including "I'm Not In Love", and "The Things We Do For Love".
Fun Fact: One of the main original members from the early 1960s: Graham Nash left the Group to be part of a "Super All Star" Californian/Canadian Group called Crosby,Stills, Nash and Young".:)
guy in song is an undercover FBI informant during prohibition. He is busting a speak easy by calling the district attorney - he saves the woman from getting arrested
I saw the Hollies here in Essex a couple of years back, they still have two of the original members who are knocking on a bit however but as they say 'once you've got it you never lose it', they were absolutely fantastic. Again keep up the good work ladies x
Allan Clarke was a superb lead singer; underrated imho in the main because of the time. There were so many great singers popping up - almost weekly. Tony Hicks a great lead guitar who told Allan; if he liked performing the riff so much why don't you play it?. The rest as they say is history...
The Hollies had more hits in the UK than the Beatles, and very successful in the 60’s and early 70’s. Also Graham Nash from Crosby, Stills and Nash (also Young), was a founder member and left in 1968/69 I believe.
A lot of people thought this Song was done by the Group CCR. Both of the two lead singers sound very similar. It'd be Interesting to see your reaction a group called The Guess Who, which is a Canadian band, from the late 60's into the early 70's. Their biggest Song is American Woman. Ths.
The story of the lyrics comes from Scotland back in the 1800's. A young girl was carrying a baby boy, almost as large as she was. Someone saw her struggling and commented she must be tired carrying so large a load. She replied, "He's na heavy. He's mi brither".
Back in the day the hollies made an LP of just Dylans Songs that tthey adapted to their style & production, If you can find it give it a listen It's Awesome?? Hollies sing Dylan was theTitle !! They were brilliant live !!
Great reaction; As usual, this is not my favourite song on the album. I had this album and it is well worth getting as it is full of good ones. The other hit from the album, Long Dark Road is the one I would pick over Long Cool Woman. Cable Car, A Little Thing Like Love, To Do With Love are all super songs.
Ah yes. This was our partying song, when I was in High School except... we had no idea what the Lyrics were, or we would not have liked it. I mean the guy's singing about working for the FBI, busting people, but sparing her, (the long cool woman in a black dress). The Lyrics make this song into the antithesis of what we stood for. Pigs... (lol).
If you have seen other hollies songs you would hear harmonies…..the very thing this one does not have, that iconic guitar riff was something else tho, i love story songs, my favourite is Bus Stop

@@kennethstreet5734 I haven't forgiven The Creedence for the price of watching them at THe World Famous:Royal Albert Hall in West London around 1974, with 5,000 others. It was 25..................pence OR 34 cents:)

To Tera my dog, an agent can go undercover. An informant is not an agent tt goes undercover, s/he is just an informant, aka a C/I, confidential informant.
This has got one of the coolest vibes of any song I know.
Exactly. The vibe

The Hollies had many many hits. The song 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' will pull at your heart.
Probably my favourite... What a song!
The Beatles have more hits
It's THE rock and roll
song that every garage band knows.
That simple guitar riff with that insane bass... Perfec'! I'd expect that bass player to be chained down for others' safety.
Boy does this take me back! What a great song...
Love them singing Air that I breathe
Clarke is not usually mentioned in a list of great vocalists ... but he was.
I could not agree with you more! 😀
Their song Bus Stop is one of the best examples for songwriters on how to tell a story with simple, succinct lyrics. Amazing stuff.

Alan Clarke was amazing and another Hollies song you might like is called "Bus Stop"!!
The Slow but pointed build-up & crescendo is so groovy, not to mention the 'man of mystery' perspective😆🥇‼️ -Let's Dance‼️‼️‼️

I've not heard that before, I always understood it was copied from Father Flanagan's boys school Nebraska who used it as their slogan.
I'm a Hollies fan but liked their earlier music best. Look through any window is my favourite.
LIKE THIS SONG
I vote this the hit with the most echo on the vocal

The best CCR song that CCR didn't do.
Is the song talking about the daughter if she could sing?
Looks like dad singing with his sons in the band. My understanding is the age difference is why they didn’t stay together longer.

React to some old Van Halen! !!! 👍🏼👏🏼
Always thought this sounds more like Creedence than the Hollies.....
I hate to tell you but he says it in the song he's working for the FBI.
It was very hard for me to understand the words. And even after reading them,
I don't understand the story. But the music is great.
