    Much thanks for the video. It's really useful to know a lot of this before going into replacing your battery on an E90. Few extra things I did was removing that red wire fastened with 13mm. Then take a picture of the interconnect plugs on the positive terminal assembly then remove and tape them to the side. It makes installing the large group 49 battery a little bit easier. That and watching this video beforehand.
    The tips on using Bimmercode are great too. Only if you are changing Amp Hour (Capacity) or type (AGM or Lead-Acid). Additionally, it looks like even a 92AH battery is still in class as 90AH capacity so you can install a 92AH and just perform the registration with a scanner and you're good. If you went to perhaps 100AH then would need Bimmercode. Since getting a 92AH AGM replacement and I had 90AH AGM already registered, I just used my Schwaben 14020SCH scanner to do the registration and it looks like it doesn't even ask you for those two numbers anymore, it just registers the battery and I can confirm it WILL add to the "Last Changed at: xxxxx km" entries upon registering. Thanks again!

    Very helpful video. I did notice that you did not use the small vent hole plug that should be placed in the battery cap not vented by the vehicle's vent tube. The small plug is attached to the terminal cover - you just pop it off the cover and place it in the vent hole that is found on the side of the battery cover (again, the one not vented via the tube). Thanks again for the video.

  • @tombanes
    @tombanes Рік тому +2

    You need to remove the little red plug from the positive transport cover and use it to plug the vent hole on the opposite side of the battery. Otherwise all the gases are building up in the trunk as if there was no vent at all. That is why they include that plug.

    So I bought both the Ancel OBD Scanner and the Veapeak OBD2 one, I changed the battery on my 2007 335i with a new battery with different voltages and AGM This time. I managed to at least register the battery through the ANCEL Scanner but I do not have the option to change it to AGM. I only get (1) as an option and do not have (2) or (3). MOving onto the Veapeak part of coding, DFor some reason I keep getting the message that the device is not supported with my vehicle even though On the Bimmercode website it says that its compatable. Ive tried everything like updating the bimmer code app, reinstalling etc. but nothing seems to change

    • @seanpaul3050
      @seanpaul3050 Рік тому

      The car very likely has a water leak. You can see the tide mark in the battery tray at the bottom. While the battery is removed you should take off the covers on the two red cables, where they pass through the car body. It is very common for them to be badly corroded and sometimes those positive cables can actually snap off in that area due to severe corrosion. Common weak point on these cars and this can lead to a no-start issue. Water usually gets in around the rear light seal.

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  2 місяці тому +4

      You can swap the batteries without registering, not problem there. The problem is that your charging system will kill it much, much faster as it will still charge it as if it was the old battery.
      The BMS in these cars adjusts charging as the batteries age and what you are doing when registering the battery is telling the BMS to reset and start from scratch learning the new battery.

    I used your video to swap out the battery in my son's 2011 328i. It was very easy to follow, although I had a little difficulty putting the new battery in since it was the larger H8 battery and there's just very little room to work in that small space! Anyway, at the time I bought the BM700 thinking that I'd be able to code the new battery (from regular lead acid to AGM) and register the new battery. I was able to register the battery okay, but there was no option to code the new battery to AGM. This was Thanksgiving week and my son was heading back to college the next day, so I had to leave it as is. He's back for winter break now and I bought the Veepeak device and will try coding the new battery type using Bimmercode. The car will overcharge the battery causing it to fail. It may take a few months or even longer, but you’re drastically decreasing the battery’s life. How long the battery will last depends on how bad the previous one got as the car adjusts it’s charging based on how well the battery takes charge overtime.

      Well, that doesn't really work well on a BMW. If you leave it as is, it will charge it the same as the old one and may overcharge it and kill your used battery (depending on how different of health it is) and if you register it, it will start charging it as new and won't give it enough charge.

    The only way you can increase the CCA from 640 to 850 for the same size battery is by decreasing the internal resistance. And this can be done by giving up on other aspects of the battery in other words battery life by changing plate thicknesses. By the way, I have had 14 and 16 years of battery life from the original conventional FLA Panasonic batteries in the Toyota and Honda. Five years is nothing. The factory installed AGM battery in my 2015 Porsche 991.1 GTS battery is now going into its 9th year, so stop buying those slow BMWs. Just kidding; I have four BMW motorcycles. This looks like a prime example of why not to buy a BMW, or any other luxury European car. I hate to imagine what a BMW dealer would charge to replace the battery. One BMW owner recently told me that our local dealership wanted an 8 week appointment to get her battery replaced at the dealership, due to the current nationwide shortage of automotive technicians. So, study this video well, because probably the only way you're going to properly replace your BMW battery in any reasonable time frame is by going out and buying the scan tool to do it yourself. If you're going to own a BMW, and don't have the skills or tools to do this, I suggest you also get a little Toyota in you garage for your backup vehicle.
