    I always replace my batteries after 4 years in the fall. Had to do that “when it’s f****** zero” one too many times. Just decided it would be on my terms after pulling a battery by sled two miles so I could go to work. Great video!

    After almost 9,5 years of operation, I had to change my battery of my 135i last saturday. In an E82 this is actually a lot easier and more accessible than an E90. Everything is in reach in the middle of the trunk. What I missed in your video is that you need to plug the other side of the vent opening on the battery when installing. Either take the plug from your old battery, or use the plug provided with the new battery to plug the vent hole that is not in use. There is one on either side of a battery. You plug the grey hose in the + side vent hole (9:00), bot say nothing about plugging the other hole. If you don't plug it, it could lead to venting unwanted gasses into the trunk. And registering the battery with MHD, as long as it is the same spec, is ridiculously simple and quick.

    For all the DIY videos you’ve posted do you normally remove the negative connection on the battery before performing engine work? Not sure if it’s needed to do spark plugs, injectors, etc. I’ve been religiously following your videos and you’ve given me the courage to start work on my n54 e90 but something I’ve been pondering, worrying about possible shock. Pretty sure I’m spooking myself here. Thanks and keep the vids coming!

    Many questions after this video: you can do the registration with INPA, ISTA or NCS Expert and a generic OBD. Besides, you dont say how much time you must have the car turned on the first time so that the ECU measures correctly the SoH (state of health) of the battery. You dont cover as well whether to charge the new battery before installing it. It can be as low as 60%.

    Got a question for you that I can’t find info on, thinking you might have that knowledge. Going to replace my daughters X3 F25 battery, wondering if I place a battery charger on the connection point under the hood and then remove the battery will that same all her memory items in her car, yes I will protect the positive cable in the trunk not to short it out. Just wondering to save some time reprogramming , radio, seat and such. Then I can just register the battery with my Carly.

  • @dixy2k
    @dixy2k 4 роки тому +1

    I used Carly for BMW app on an Android phone. It's a little expensive, but overall cheaper than going to the dealer. It allows the user to monitor lots of parameters, check fault codes, reset them, code multiple functions, etc. It's not perfect, sometimes frustrating, but it works. Oh and you can do it wirelessly with a bluetooth adapter.

      Disagree. You’re like my naggy wife. She’ll exaggerate her point thinking to win an argument when all she does is make her statement untrue.
      Engineers should care more about owner repairs but it is not a priority for BMW. There was wasted space behind the firewall. And freeing up space in the front allows for more flexibility in design. Pretty car.
      And for BMW management, it prevents discourages user repairs. No, they would prefer you not do your own repairs. And types like you and me need more discouragement than just needing some Torx sockets.

      Oh, I wrote the above without watching the video. You MUST be joking!! I was thinking I was going to see something like the battery placement in a 2018 218d Active Tourer. About $300 labor to change the battery. Looks like you have to remove with wiper arms along with most of the firewall trim to get the battery out. Jesus, you are a whiner. In the trunk behind a panel is complex?

    Nice video! Thanks for posting. BTW @ 17:05 is why I'll never buy a car from Ohio again. Bought a 2 year old car with 14,000 miles and the rust on the bottom and throughout was UNBELIEVABLE...

    why did you us a screw driver to remove the connections from the power distribution module? if you follow the cord to the base of the connection, there is a button you can push to easily pull the connector free
