iPhone Not Ringing? Here’s Why & The Fix!

- Two Apple experts explain why your iPhone is not ringing and show you how to fix the problem for good.
The first thing to do is check your iPhone’s Ring / Silent switch. If the switch is set to Silent, your iPhone won’t ring.
Next, turn up your ringer volume all the way. It's possible the ringer is set to silent!
Make sure Do Not Disturb isn’t turned on. Do Not Disturb is a feature that will silence all calls, texts, and other notifications.
If Do Not Disturb is off, it’s possible that your iPhone is stuck in headphones mode, or there could be damage to one of its speakers.

A big one they missed: Settings > Phone > Announce Calls > “Always”

Yep, "old people" LOL, just did this (little button on the top side - first fix!) for my phone about two months ago..... been missing with my husbands phone all day trying to get it to ring...... duh...... as soon as I pulled this video up, I remembered! My phone doesn’t ring at all it just tells me I missed a call. Update if you go to settings phone. make sure your silence unknown callers is off

Thanks, guys. I had checked out numerous "fixes" from others but it worked immediately with the orange switch over the volume buttons.
Love the video ... however my fix was different. No ringer recently, tried all your methods but it turned out that the side button which kept wanting to stay in the off position was keeping the phone in 'mute' mode. Even when I held it in the up position and had someone call it would not ring. Then, with case off, and after blowing air into the switch area, I used my thumbnail to carefully apply 'max possible' pressure to the slider button and "bam" it snapped into ON mode. Maybe there was some little crushed up debris in there. Maybe it is still in there but diminished.

She lost her phone 2 days ago (somewhere in the house!) And I told her once it was found it needed to make some type of sound so we could find it if lost again. Well, I adjusted all of her settings and her phone still wasn't ringing or making any notifications. I thought I was losing my mind! LOL

I’ve seen my ringer on and it still doesn’t ring, and do not disturb is off as well.

Try looking for an OS update under Settings. There has been a known glitch that causes this problem

I have an iPhone XR and had a problem where not getting text tome but ringtone was OK. from watching this video through and trying the suggestions I found it was a Bluetooth connection to my AirPods which thought it was still active! Great advice, thanks!

That switch must have been flipped when I put a case on. I would never have thought that Apple would put a physical switch like this on the phone and not even had a screen warning ! Thank you guys! I was ready to do a hard reset and that wouldn't have fixed this either.

Thank you very much for this video. You fixed in several sentences what Verizon tech couldn’t figure out. So I educated him. And myself. I never noticed that tiny button and I had inadvertently switched the sound off. With a vinyl case on my phone, I never noticed it. Once I took the case off. Voila 🙏

my issue is too complicated, i dont have the silent switch on and my "do not disturb" is off but every time people call me, the phone doesnt ring, i just get a missed call pop up on my screen...
Go to settings... then scroll down to Phone... check to see if you have "silence unknown callers" turned on

Thank you so much! I turned on change with buttons and I can finally adjust my ringer volume. I felt like one of those people that always have their ringer set too loud, but I couldn't figure out why it didn't adjust. Until today, that is!!!

I am a Boomer and I feel I need a computer science degree just to make a phone call. I would gladly have a rotary dial phone over this thing. Hanging up on people is just so much more fun when you can slam the receiver down...

Thanks so much! As soon as you indicated the ringer was off if you saw orange, I found the problem. I had tried everything else suggested watching other videos and thought the ringer was on. You two are the Best for Help. Can't say enough thanks for solving the problem.
Great tips. One suggestion - when you talk about “turning your iphone off then back on”, many people don’t understand the difference between simply locking the screen (a quick press of the power button which simply turns off the screen), and a true power off - a longer press of the power button until you get the “slide to power off” message.

Hi there. The issue I am having is that my iPhone does not ring when CERTAIN numbers call. The numbers are not blocked and I followed all of your other instructions. Any guidance would be great. Thanks!
videokidsam same! Certain calls don’t even register as an incoming call while I’m using the phone. So weird.
Under Settings/Phone there is a button called "Silence Unknown Callers". If this is on then turn it off. I turned it on because I thought it meant callers shown as "Unknown" while what it really means is that all callers that are not in your contact list will be blocked! Not a usefull button. Even when ATT help called me it would not ring. Of course, ATT Help was no help in finding the problem.

Of everything I’ve read I was never been able to find the solution to why my iPhone 6 was not ringing. No article mentioned the toggle switch on the side right above the volume controls. Even though I’ve turned it off in the past, I had inadvertently done so when I learned about>Focus>Do Not Disturb. The toggle also controls the keyboard clacking sound. Thanks.
