    I absolutely love how Japan embraces the solo dining experience! It seems odd to go to a K/JBBQ place alone or any restaurant for that matter but with places like this, Ichiran, or Ikinari, it seems perfectly normal to just enjoy a nice meal and drink by yourself. Ultimate self-care/love

      So true. I once sat in a café on a nice sunny sunday afternoon and because there were so many people on the streets the café was full. A couple asked if it is okay to sit at my table and so we talked to each other. But the woman was bewildered because I was on my own (as a woman). No, she would never do that! :D But hey it was just a spontanous trip and I was a single. But I didn't want to sit at home alone. I never had a problem going out alone but a lot of people are really bewildered If I do, especially as a woman. In Germany. Were woman can do that if they want. Oh boy ... society.

      It would be even nicer if it's a soundproof room so I can slurp and burp all I want. Also, the food needs to be brought by robots or some conveyor system. No interaction with pesky humans please. 😆😋🤗

    Gotta love the 70s/80s rock in the background. The food looks good too! When I lived in Japan "strawberry shortcake" was a completely different concept than what I grew up with in the USA. Here, we literally use "shortcake" sponge (usually it's just the bottom half of a biscuit) for the bottom layer (about a half inch thick), pile in a bunch of chopped and sugared strawberries, and then top it with whipped cream (fresh or from a can) and the other half of the biscuit and add more strawberries and cream on top. In Japan, it's an entire cake - which to me is not "shortcake" but just a "strawberry cake." lol...

      @GnomePuntTrainerYT 3 роки тому +22

      This is actually a result of the work culture in Japan being completely exhausting and toxic. There's less couples, less families and less children. Everybody is constantly working. They aren't here to normalize eating alone, they exist as a result of people having nobody to eat with.

    • @Scriptor13
      @Scriptor13 3 роки тому +9

      @@GnomePuntTrainerYT I understand. My point was that whatever the reason people eat alone, at least there are specific physical accommodations made for them. In the U.S., people eating solo are generally seated at tables or in booths made to seat multiple persons. Or solo diners may have to sit at a counter and are made conspicuous in their solitude.

      also small detail just if somebody knows, when they were getting outside the Caffe Superiore they waited for a couple of ladies to pass first, then they said "sumimasen" which im sure is like "excuse me" or something like that. But then he says "Arigato gozaimasu" which is thank you but in a very polite way right? Im confused because in México if that were the issue, sure the ladies would say in that same situation "disculpa" or maybe "con permiso" which mean "sorry" and "going in sorry (this one you say it a bit before crossing what you need to cross so people know you are in kind of a hurry)" Actually maybe even something like the ladies looking at the guys and saying "Gracias" or "Muchas gracias" which mean thank you and thank you very much respectively and the guys doing a hand gesture saying something like "Sure no problem" idk i started thinking about that too much as you may have noticed haha srry

    Man, Japan has alot of places that really really really intrigue introverts, like solo ramen places, solo barbecue, automatic/vending machine restaurant, different foods vending machine........

    Ahh, I've never done yakiniku, but I have done shabu-shabu and miss it terribly (no restaurant offers it, where I live now). This looks so good!
    (Except the raw egg, still not comfortable with that)
    There's something amusing about you two going together to show us a solo dining restaurant. 😄
    I guess Satoshi didn't have any room for dessert, lol.

    they open here in Jakarta as well, around the same time it first opened there (it has been operating about a year or so) so it kinda surprised me to know they are in Japan too (I thought it was a local yakiniku store 🤣). They are good if you want to eat beef but cannot handle all you can eat style (like me) so i do go there often 🥰

    These places are brilliant and I wish America would adopt places like this but unfortunately I don't see that ever happening 😕 😢 😞 😔

    The surprising part to me is how cheap the beer is, even the worst of the worst would be like $7 or 8 where I'm at for that amount.

    It's funny to hear pure American music there. "Panama! Panama-ha!"
    As for me, I would definitely eat there. I've fallen in love with gochujang and have loved Japanese food for decades

    Being a fast-food type of concept, the quality and selection of meat at LIKE isn't the greatest, esp compared to more traditional establishments (tbh at a certain price threshold, I think it actually kinda sucks). There are plenty of establishments where there are solo grills and counter seating, you just gotta look for them, but LIKE's price point and numerous outlets are adequate enough to make it popular with salarymen who need a quick, no-frills yakiniku fix (myself included occasionally). However, if you go with multiple servings of meat, you're actually better off at another chain like An-An or Gyushige, which to me is better quality meat and meat variety, actual charcoal grills (LIKE uses gas), tablet ordering, and a bigger side/drink menu and they happily take solo customers as well.
