The main theme/influence here is George Orwell's Animal Farm. There are other cinematic references e.g. A Clockwork Orange and Willy Wonka (the dunta dunta at the start sounds like the oompa loompa song). Ren wanted the rhythm to have a tribal sound and has nodded towards Kanye's Black Skinhead as an influence. I am sure Ren would like to hear your thoughts on this one - whether right or wrong it is cool to hear your mind work on this

The video is references to Animal Farm, but the song itself had nothing to do with Animal Farm. This was obvious when listening to the lyrics, but Ren himself has stated this as well. As for any deep meaning of the lyrics themselves, again Ren himself has stated that this particular song, like several of his, is simply a fun song and doesn't have a deep meaning. But it's always good for people to have their own interpretations.

I think "fun" songs for ren are still deeper than most. I take this song, holistically, is a representation of the base, animalistic, dark side of ourselves.
He talks a lot about the dark and light sides of humanity in his work, I think this fits within that overall theme.
This song isn't super complex, which is fitting, because neither is this side of our psychology, so it's fitting

Willy Wonka takes you on Toad's psychotic Purge tour of Animal Farm and A Clockwork Orange before welcoming you to Jurassic Park
How'd you miss the Dogs Playing Poker reference? I think maybe people got so used to Ren's music having so many meanings that we overextend ourselves looking for more.
I think a lot of the camera angles are/were done originally because this is another one-take and they had to create space for Ren to move around for the next section but that's just a guess.
In Illest of our Time it was ... a bunch of 'homeless' folks who were squatting in the building they filmed in, here its a bunch of Ren's 'friends' so its a mix

No other reactor I've watched so far mentioned the cane as a pendulum, Ren moving it back and forth. That's what I noticed and thought of. No one else mentioned it. Did you notice the human head hanging in the kitchen behind the pig butcher? Thank you for reacting to anything by Ren. Bisecting or dissecting Ren's brain may be too much of a challenge for normal human beings. Yes, it's Animal Farm, one of my favorite books. Many other references in this video. I would love to be inside Ren's brain, I feel a commonality with him that sometimes scares me but mostly excites and thrills me. People eat animals, animals eat animals, animals eat people. It's an eat or be eaten world.... I keep seeing the genius of Ren. I am seeing the connections of his lyrics to other written works of art in literature and movies. Truly amazing. Ren is amazing! Everything Ren does is either fun, sad, outrageous, crazy, deep with meaning, or educational.

I think a key lyric, that a lot of people miss, is the opening: "You're in the mind of"
This is Ren's mind, and we're in there with him.

George Orwells animal farm mixed with the original willy wonka, a clockwork orange, the shining, The Witches of Eastwick, Creature from the Black lagoon, Dogs Playing Poker, by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge, the Sick boy easter egg hanging in the kitchen...Ren is insane...like...really a crazy genius

Women in Ren's videos (other than other people he's performing the music with - Chinchilla and Liz)... the therapist in Sick Boi, the dancing extra in What You Want, and the women in the Bittersweet Symphony video (brief glimpse of schoolgirls he encounters on his walk, and the mother pushing the pram)

  • @joshuawiedenbeck6944

Animal Farm's basic premise is that the animals rebel against their farmer because they are tired of how he acts towards them. Over the course of the book, the animals slowly become more and more like humans until they are behaving how you see them in this video. It's a lesson on people becoming the thing that they hate. Overthrowing people you disagree with forces you to act like them.
I think your guess at the end is correct, except it's the flip side: By destroying other people (rulers, oppressors, etc), you end up destroying yourself in the process.

Ren provokes deep thinking. The flamingo head tricycle rider is a nod to the movie the shinning, i have read somewhere the 3 women clinging to him are a nod to 3 witches from another movie, maybe the witches of eastwick... he loves putting easter eggs into videos. It only became heavy in animal farm after they bevan decorating his friend's apartment.
All persons in the video were just friends and friends of friends that gathered to help out.
Imagine it. Hey, who wants to be in a video, bring your friends!

I enjoyed your analysis it touched on quite a few things I hadn’t either thought or heard on other reactions. I do think when you say in America we should just stop voting in crappy people, in theory that makes sense. However I don’t see it being any easier here not to do that than other countries may have for a couple a reasons. 1 we historically are only in the end truly given 2 party’s to choose from. Others never make it, in my opinion not by coincidence, to the final ballot. Another is your “regular Joe” can not run. The money it costs to run is part of the corrupted system. My main issue lies with lobbying. To me it is the truest definition of bribery. Individuals do not get that kind of pull, these companies make these “donations” to certain candidates not out of a moral or ethical similarity but because they have either been promised certain things or think that said candidate would align with them on policy. I feel our whole elective system feels similarly to the way some churches almost pimp out religion. It’s just talk and playing down to people. We’re made to feel like we have a choice and in the end our votes do have some bearing but really just getting the popular people’s vote is a part of “winning”. Maybe I’m just cynical maybe my viewpoint is wrong I just think telling people they can choose and then refusing to give them more than 2 options is selling a bit of a lie. Anyway aside from that political rant I do think that Ren would enjoy your reaction. He mentioned in an interview that he really likes to watch reactions to see his music through others perspectives and see what they get from it. He said it makes him fall in love with his songs again after he feels like he beats them to death with writing, recording, filming, etc!

I don't know if you plan to rewatch this on your own time later but if you do next time when you watch it if you watch it again instead of focusing on the words and bars in the words I know you're not really doing that but focus on how the words coincide with the surroundings. An area where you really see it is. When he's talking about the fur clothing his sins then the camera goes inside and those girls are sitting on laundry machines and then it goes into a scene where there's a lamb and he's talking about blood. I'm not exactly sure how to explain what I'm trying to get across. Just notice the words and notice the surroundings and see how they kind of match.

If I were asked what America was right now, my answer would be a place to get soldiers and weapons and a place for consumers. I know there are still some things that we do here in America. But for the most part, goods and services that are handmade are very rare anymore in America. And it's because the standards in America are much higher than anywhere else and they would rather pay someone in China 10 cents an hour, then an American at $17 or $20 an hour. Nothing nothing personal it's just business...

I’m blown away that “whack” so easily rolled off the tip of your tongue. That’s a strong statement when analyzing beats, lyrics, non-performers’ performances, 1 take videos, lighting etc. If I remember correctly, you are a creative. Just because you sit behind a screen is not reason enough to assume you could execute at a higher level, and operating on all cylinders.
This is the icky-ness of UA-cam. Artists no longer respect artists because their soap boxes are so high. You’re living his message loud and clear. Weep when it’s your soapbox story and discard him when it’s not.

You know I never agreed with man's ideology of the infinity. Sign being an 8 type thing looped to me infinity should be more like a dna chain that never ends because a loop never grows I think part of the reason we stay stuck in our loops of idiocy shall we say is because the people who win always hide what was and the system is reinforced by the leaders who always tend to be elitists. Although I do believe we are headed for a type of awakening age where the leaders were, the elitists are going to end up with less power. Because we will realize that we don't need money to live, we don't need elites to lead us or governess. We can meet and govern in small communities. Because with what's going on, there's gonna be 1 of 2 things happening in the near future. There's either going to be an uprising of the average citizens against their country's leaders. Or there will be the tyrannical takeover that they are planning and believe me. They've got the WHO treaty coming up here May 2024 automatic and go read it. See what we're in for... If that happens, then we might have either mad max or hunger game for a while, then it will go to revolution if it goes to revolution first. Though it's going to make the french revolution look like a walk in the park. They would be foolish to push it right now because there are still too many boomers and genexis. And there's a lot of millennials too willing to water that liberty tree. You have to check out Adam Calhoun and upchurch if I die tonight that's pretty much my sentiment.
