The standard of music these days is so low that anyone willing to do it is automatically accepted as an "artist". It's an insult to those before us who have spent their entire wakeing moments perfecting their music.
Back in the 50's 60's 70's & somewhat 80's you had to be talented x 1000. There were so few studio's, record labels and publishing co. if weren't uber talented you were run outta town. Only the best of the best were signed cause they were put on this earth to be musicians..... Record labels would stand by you and help develop your sound. You weren't dropped after 2 albums just cause you had a small drop in sales. The door has been kicked so wide open that anyone with pro tools in there basement and a half ass written song can make it. And oh yeah. Record ex question. How does he look in a pair of jeans? Is he handsome? Are his teeth pearly white and does he have t-shirt muscles? Yes sir. And a by the way can he sing? That's nashville folks. Guys like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash etc.... would never make these days cause looks came 5th and the music came 1st. Oh well Im out
I'm not surprised the "artists" in this video must live in shacks and wait tables. The music sounded like an American Idol of Folk Wannabe Hipsters compilation.
Leigh Nash from Six Pence and None the Richer is in here. Guess she rode that Kiss Me money as far as she could. Still, joke aside, interesting to see her here with this bunch.
This is exactly why eight years later, Taylor Swift is the only one pathetically making any money. If this is the future of Nashville, we're in a lot of trouble...Sad.
These are my thoughts on this Documentary. I was considering moving to Nashville, and after viewing this video I'm reluctant to follow through. I know what's wrong with every song in this Documentary, and I'm sure there are about 100 producers/A&R people who understand this. There are probably less than 100 producers who know how to 'fix' the songs. Of those few who know how to 'fix' the songs (make them hit material) they can be retained at price levels outside the budget of a Nashville musician's income. Place a producer & one of these songwriters in a room together, and you may go nowhere fast. How can I be so negative? Well, I'm sure these songwriters believe their songs are amazing. They've been told by everyone, EVERYONE, how great they are. The trouble with 'everyone' is that they may not have an A&R ear about what constitutes hit material. Focusing yet further, there's the variable of money: If a producer doesn't pay a songwriter/performer a certain amount of money, the ability for that musician to stick it out 40 hours a week until their songs are transformed into hit material (did I fail to mention session player cost.. oh, and support staff?) well, now you can begin to understand WHY this Documentary has such a bitter/sweet vibe about it. What should be done about this? Well, I've tried to work with certain individuals with the intent to produce a radio ready, but its nearly impossible unless you've got front money to keep them interested. The offer goes something like this: The producer agrees to work with the vocalist/writer, and without pay. The compensation for work comes from unit sales, and not from 'dreams of stardom' as is the case with most studios today. What this does is makes the producer EARN HIS MONEY! rather than for the engineer & songwriter to do all the work. So, in conclusion, if you are in Nashville (or anywhere) contact me through my UA-cam, or e-mail: mythhealer@comcast.net and I will review your songs.
LOL. Those comments of yours are better placed on the performers in this video. I'm telling you what you don't want to hear. 1 out of a thousand can even define the reasons why these musicians can't make it, or why they can't seem to get any further along in their currier.
Duston McCreary The word 'ignorance' is a derivative of 'ignor' ... When I gave the breakdown of the top 1% of the top 1% who understand what it takes? Your reaction is typical.
I desperately want to set out and see the country/world. I've yet to figure out how that part works... so I'm content to watch this for the time being.
Makes me laugh seeing the skinny-jean wearing, wannabe hipsters, but I have respect for anyone chasing a dream. I hope popular music goes back to basics. Most of the time it's over-produced and doesn't have soul- especially current country music.
Did I hear that right? A guy named Ethan Opelt,AKA Movement Nashville, is trying to organize non-country musicians to promote the non-country music scene. First of all let me say that is a severe case of poor judgement. Would you move to southern California to promote a non-surfing culture? Second, let me say, the Mayor should have you and your co-horts run out of town forever.
Really enjoyed this- many thanks! Great artists and music!! The house tour and space capone were hilarious XD
I've been waiting to see this forever! Thank you for finally posting it! :)
Great stuff, thx. Coming from LA, looking forward to Nashville. No songs without songwriters...
Good music of Nashville. Best wishes from France

Nashville is freaking awesome
Excellent doc!
Loved being part of this!
*Timeless- Still relevant 11 years later in 2023✨🎶🐎
*Except for the myspace pages lol
I had to kill the audio to make it through even three minutes of this....
It probably sounded better back home in Paintsville, KY.
Thanks for posting this. Thanks alot.

It's a song by Thad Cockrell called "Rejoicing" : )
Cool......i've always wanted to go there
thank you!

I think a lot of people make the move down there with the wrong perception in mind. . .
They are caught up in "trying" instead of just becoming....like playing the blues without ever having ya heart broke....this movie is a joke...
About to move there ... Hope it's still ok now.
How's it in 2023

aka 'My music style is out of date and these people playing something different pisses me off, therefore it's wrong and needs to be "fixed"'.

There is not one artist on here I would even think about signing.....
It's a shot in the dark 8 years later.... But I'll email ya

Don't be Mainstream Be Real
Whats the song in the beginning?
Makes me laugh seeing the skinny-jean wearing, wannabe hipsters, but I have respect for anyone chasing a dream. I hope popular music goes back to basics. Most of the time it's over-produced and doesn't have soul- especially current country music.
wow, Sheriff is a real piece of work....
So this is who is helping all of those clubs make their production fees?
haha if you were a comedian good sir you would starve to death
Does anyone know the song they're playing around the campfire at 37:53 ?
Yes, its clearly "My Dudes (All Approve)" :)
a little of both: )
I can play better than that....
This was absolutely below average at best, sorry it was very hard to hear this noise... 😔
Documentary is dated and is about the hipsters.. give me some old Waylon and haggard
Y'all C omitted Murder on Music Row. Go back to Kalifornia.
myspace?
I appreciate everyone’s musical instincts, but why is so much of this stuff is wimpy, self reflective emo sounding? Does anyone rock in Nashville?
We are now on facebook too: ) lol

Your attitude is actually what nearly killed country music decades ago and what gives the south a bad name; a phobia of change and anything different.
singer...songwriter...singer...songwriter...singer...songwriter...singer...songwriter...this is nashville. lame and redundant.
What do you want, surfers and gymnasts?
