I'm a rideshare driver in Nashville and here's a do in Nashville: when you want a ride to your hotel or air bnb, do walk the hell off Broadway. We can get to you 20 minutes faster on a Thursday thru Saturday night if you'll walk to either of the parallel streets (Demonbreun or Commerce). You can also walk up to the corner of 7th Ave N and Broadway by the mason's lodge. Seriously Broadway is a zoo and Metro closes it to east west travel at 8pm so everybody tries to get picked on the corners of the cross streets.
YES!! I’ve recently started driving Lyft in Nashville as a side gig, and I am shocked at how many people request pick ups and drops off on Broadway. I was just telling a friend of mine exactly what you posted here.

I cherish the Nashville of my youth. It's no longer a town but a city. With that brings diversity and change. Some good, some bad. I still love this town. Lots to do, eat, see, and experience.

Nashville born raised. Watching Nashville changing is painful. Grew up as singing neighbors became celebrities. Nashville has several Universities. Parks boating / picnic areas. Etc., Therefore more to offer than hotchicken.
yes, as a native Nashvillian for more than 50 years I miss Nashville. The idea of Nashville is what people are visiting and moving into - Nashville is gone - it has been destroyed. We fleed just over a year ago and I couldn't be happier. The libs/dems have taken over and will soon turn Nashville into just another cesspool like so many other democratic/liberal cesspools. Sad but true

I’ve lived here in Nashville for about 5 years in total including college and I just happened to see this video suggested by UA-cam. Phenomenal job covering everything and 100% accurate on everything. Very impressive.
I live in the area, and I must add that those of us who attend church more than likely benefit from outstanding music there. The choirs, orchestras, praise bands are the best almost everywhere you could land.

The churches are everywhere. And you have be careful of the people who smile to your face and stab you in the back. Everyone’s a Christian but they don’t act like it once the facade wears away. I’ve only met 2 people here I’d consider a true Christian.
@@Superduper666 Thank you for mentioning this. I am a native Nashvillian who moved away some years ago. That is one thing I absolutely do not miss about Nashville, not even a teeny, tiny bit.
That is the gospel! All the church music here is amazing; wonderful musicians! It spoils you so much that visiting out-of-town relatives and attending their church is a shock.

The food assembly hall is one of Nashville’s newer installments and I love it! I do a lot of work on Broadway and go there all the time to eat at one of their restaurants.
They also have some cool shopping options at 5th and Broadway.

Nashville native here! If you go to princes hot chicken do not get the “Hot” chicken unless you can handle your mouth being burnt off. Learned that the hard way
As a local, thank you for showing me all the parts of my city that I never see. It has changed a LOT in 25 years.
As a native, I definitely recommend getting outside of Nashville during your stay. All the surrounding towns have their own history and great places to visit. Though even further out there are many great state and national parks, great rivers for canoeing/kayaking, and some amazing hiking trails are all over the state. Civil war battlefields and Native American sites can be found all around the state as well.

Monells on about 5th in Germantown is one of my favorites too.
I live very close to Nashville and go there all the time. My favorite hot chicken is the original... Princes hot chicken! I get it all the time and I would recommend it to anybody. Other favorite places to eat are Slim and Husky's (Pizza), Itz a Philly Thing (Philly Cheesesteaks), and Riddim n Spice (Jamaican) :-)

As a Canadian who is married to a Tennessean, we love Nashville! We live an hour south and drive up for special dinners and concerts. Been here 5 years and I love it. My fave city in the US by far and I've been to many. These tips n' tricks are on point. 😍

i’m a born and bred native who works downtown at the ryman. i love nashville and i think its the best city ever! i think this video is very well-done and i think everyone visiting should watch this before coming! great job of highlighting everything that makes this city great!
This whole hot chicken thing … it’s fairly new. I lived there in the 80’s and never once heard of it.
Also DON’T think you need to get wasted when visiting all the bars! I can’t count how many people I see throwing up and passed out on the streets by 10:00. Take it slow and pace yourself
I went to Nashville when I got out of prison. I got so drunk I literally couldn't see straight. Puked out of the side of an Uber all the way back to the hotel. 10/10 would do it again

Nothing says “I am not from here” like cowboy boots, long sleeve western shirts in 90 degree weather. As a middle Tennessee native I do miss old Nashville before the hipsters and transplants took over and ruined it.

I do miss the days when you saw country music stars around town. I bet i bumped into Johnny and June a dozen times while in Hendersonville. Or Roy Orbison, Marty Stuart, Bill Monroe. That is a very rare now.
And back then everyone knew not to make a fool of yourself if you did meet someone famous.
All of the old timers around Nashville tell similar stories.

Went to Nashville for first time about 2 weeks ago. By far the best trip ever. Did Oprey backstage tour,Johnny Cash museum ,wax museum. All great. Went to a local vfw and saw The Cowpokes,very genuine band,awesome and entertaining. Also went to a picken in the park at an old airport where all the celebs would fly in . Definitely check out the surrounding area.
So happy to hear Loveless Cafe get a shout out! I went there 4 years ago when passing through, and have been talking about it since! The biscuits are amazing!! 😋😋
They have a biscuit with fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese that is too die for!
Unfortunately the biscuit lady died a few years ago, and they haven't been the same since :( That said, even since she's been gone, they're still definitely among the best

I had an opportunity to take home extra biscuits from Loveless and it turned it down. I'm a local and I regret that decision thoroughly.
Nashville native here, born and raised - me & my entire family! Moved to Chicagoland 21 years ago, but still come down every month to see my folks. Plus, our daughter attended Vanderbilt University and worked for Vandy before moving back to Chicago for med school. I LOVE MY HOMETOWN...THE FOOD, THE CITY, THE PEOPLE, AND DID I SAY "THE FOOD"!!! Best Hot Chicken: Prince's (Hot Chicken) is the real-real hands down!!!
Great advice as always from Wolter's World. I was just in Nashville and can add a few thoughts:
1) If you go to Arnold's (which I highly recommend) for meat & three, get there early. I arrived around 11 am and walked right in but by 11:30, the line was out the door. Same for Hattie B's; got there around 5:30 pm and had a short wait. By 6, it was a zoo.
2) The RCA Studio B tour is a must for serious music lovers, especially Elvis, but it's not recommended for little kids. We had kids on our tour and they did not have a good time.
3) The TN State Museum is a gem, with great exhibits, FREE admission and parking at the Farmer's Market, and helpful staff. The park area around the museum is really nice, too. If it's raining and you don't want to shell out big bucks for the CMHF, that museum is a good option.
Thanks to all the locals for their advice, too. I'll be back. Love Nashville!
Go check out Arnold’s menu and culture before going. It’s not a soup natzi situation but they expect you to be ready to order effectively because hey are BUSY and are the BEST at their job of getting people back to work on their lunch breaks. So they don’t take very kindly to you asking questions and dallying around at then front of the line when that’s time to order and move on.
They have a website listing their daily specials and generally the sides and desserts. That’ll help you to know which day you want to visit (like there’s a bad day ha!) and more importantly, what you want so you don’t get pressured last minute. 👍🏻
@@ChoochooseU I agree. They want you to get in and get out quickly but are still friendly (at least to me). If the roast beef is on the buffet, I highly recommend it. Some of the best I've ever had.
I worked for RCA in NYC when I was 18 years old. Decades later, I got to visit RCA Studio B in Nashville. Full circle.

I would say one of the best museums that wasn’t listed is the National Museum of African American Music. If you’re not a country person like me, but want to learn about jazz, funk, rock, and R&B, this place is so great!
Yes funk is my genre! Reminds me of Maplewood High!
Most important: if you see a celebrity out and about, DON'T rush up, ask for autographs or harass them. These are our neighbors, and Nashville is their home. Only silly tourists act hysterical around celebs. Be cool like a native, nod in passing at most, and brag later to your friends about how you saw Big Deal Famous Person but you played it so cool, man. 😎
Born & raised here so I became accustomed to seeing country stars. I was surprised to see how many celebs not in the country industry that live here. I think the only person that would make me freak out is Beyonce. Even then I'd prob just faint & miss my moment. ☺
@TracieClaiborne, I’m afraid I’ve got you there, because I have seen Nicole and Keith out and about several times. Once years ago when having sushi at Peter’s in Brentwood, and then a few years later they were sitting in a booth in Fido when some friends and I went in for coffee. The whole place was electric with excitement, everyone was buzzing and whispering and trying to “casually” take selfies in which Nicole and Keith could be seen in the background, but NOBODY approached them or said a word to them. They talked together, drank their coffee, and walked out holding hands, and that was that. You specifically mentioned Nicole, so I told my Nicole-sighting stories, but this experience wasn’t unique. I’ve been in the grocery store with Carrie Underwood and had dinner at a restaurant once with the late great George Jones, and same thing - excitement all around but people let them be.
It won't let me see her comment other than in notification. Not sure what her intended tone was but it came off as bitchy. I'm not what I would consider a fan of Nicole & Keith other than watching her shows & movies. I've seen them both & just smiled. My brother is good friends with some as well & again, not a die hard fan so I just casually smile & introduce myself if I'm with my brother. Now, as a kid, I absolutely would be giddy. That was the age of fan fair & fan clubs with meet & greets. So yes, I've met plenty. Again, only a handful that I would be really excited to meet.
Yes! I happened to play at a softball field. Where at the time the preds coach(Peter Laviolette) was there for his daughter. Me kinda in shock my friend goes oh yeah his daughter plays on my team. Welp now it’s no big deal to me.

Thanks Wolter for representing my home! You gave excellent advice. Some of my favorites are Red Head Stranger for the green chili bacon cheese burger, Smith & Lentz for the best pizza in town, eastside banh mi, Arnolds, and Mitchells deli.
The Hermatige Museum is amazing! Your video is making me want to take another trip to Nashville soon.
I have lived in Nashville since I was 8. It has changed a lot, but during the spring and summer and Christmas time there are so many fun festivals and things like that to do and a lot of outdoor music like musicians corner for free during the summer. The green line goes through the gulch and a few other places for free, which is pretty nice. I enjoy big shake's hot chicken, hattie b's mainly because of the red skin potato salad and greens, and party fowl is such a great hot chicken place; it has a lot of interesting adult drinks that are unique and they are well known for them and their mac and cheese. Bishop's in franklin is very nice meat and 3 as well. It is near the cool springs mall, and they also, serve hattie b's hot chicken, and they honestly have better side choices their and the wait is a lot shorter than at hattie's. Martin's bbq and jack's bbq are very good. I prefer to go to the Martin's near belmont because the wait is not as long. Five daughter's is worth a visit, and I recommend donut country it is a local place in Murfreesboro. Their apple filled donuts are so so good. Franklin has a lot of history and is great for elder and children in my opinion. Overall, Nashville is good for all ages because of the food, music, festivals, shopping, nature, people, etc. It is a nice place overall. DO NOT WEAR COWBOY BOOTS!!!!! It is somewhat insulting if you aren't from the place and try to "act country". I am from Arlington, Texas, and I have grown up around farm life and rodeos, etc. Most people just find it annoying, and this makes you an easier target for robbers and scammers tbh.
When I moved to Nashville 25 years ago, we felt so fortunate that we found a well-kept secret. It is no longer a secret. It is a GREAT place to live. The population growth and traffic has made it somewhat less great, but it's still great.
He is right. Do not wear cowboy hats or boots if you want to fit in with the locals.
Overrated:
- Loveless Cafe. The food is average and the service is terrible.
- Hattie B's hot chicken. It is average. Prince's and Pepperfire have much better flavor but are farther from downtown. If you order 'hot' at one of the hot chicken restaurants, it will be hot. It's not like chain restaurant hot.
- Broadway. If you come to town to go to the bars, that's where you want to be. The problem is, that's where everyone else is. It is very crowded every night of the week regardless of season.
My favorites:
- Downtown Franklin. Beautiful old town in a beautiful area. 20-30 minutes south of downtown. Good restaurants and shops. Be sure to drive around the area including Leipers Fork.
- Bluebird Cafe. Many local songwriters perform here. It was featured in the TV Series 'Nashville' quite often.
- Percy Warner Park. A beautiful, huge metro park about 15 minutes south of town.
Those of us that have been here for a while love this town. We hope you do too. We tend to be friendly folk and expect that in return. Please drive respectfully and safely and enjoy your stay.

Worth mentioning that the Bluebird is amazing but get there a couple hours before doors and get in line. They only let a limited number of people in and it's worth the wait, I promise!

We are as surprised that hot chicken is apparently out thing as you are! 😂 I am 46, had it first time 4 years ago. I’d say more truly ours are the “Meat and Threes.” Find Arnold’s and experience true southern cookin.
Don’t come in the summer. Honestly, it’s simply too humid and hot to enjoy. Fall y’all!
Nashville is awesome but it’s not what I’d consider a true vacation full of things to do. So if plan days here and then some days in the Smokies/Gatlinburg. Spend a few days or a week here and book a week in the mountains in a cabin-That’s living it up for sure!
We used to have something more than a mall to have y’all visit (backstory- we had Opryland and Gaylord tore it down and built a mall) it’s right beside the new Opryhouse. Do go to the Opry. And do go to the OG opry and your or watch a show in it- amazing acoustics in the old church.
Also- eat at the pancake house, and please don’t be surprised that we chop our bbq and use vinegar based sauce- and always choose cornbread or hoe cakes. I’m not a fan of the doughnut aka cronut he spoke of but I love the pies at Arnold’s.
Oh forgot to say: do go visit Opryland Hotel and enjoy the indoor gardens- especially if you are here for Christmas season.
I would love to see a video on tips and tricks you use for saving money for your next travel trip. Also my wife and i have been stuck at home since the covid. Our last trip was the Ionian islands Greece in 2019. We would love to be able to travel more than once a year. Looking forward to that video one day. Thanks for all the awesome content!

As someone who has lived in Middle Tennessee 32 of my 38 years alive. I gotta say this is pretty spot-on. You nailed it with the music part. My favorite band is Anti-Flag, a punk band out of Pittsburg, PA and I've seen them 3 times now in the last few years! So I'd say, one DO in Nashville is to just look up some of your favorite artists/bands and see if they are playing nearby. I'd say another DO is to go to a Nashville Predators game. I'm not even a sports fan but MAN do I love going to a Preds game! SO fun and entertaining! Also, you touched on public transit.... It's pretty much nonexistent throughout all of Middle TN. BUT Uber and Lyft (not to mention DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc.) are EVERYWHERE! It's so prevalent that if you don't want to stay in busy downtown where prices for everything is outrageous, stay in the next town or a few towns over and just make day trips to the city. That leads to one DON'T though... DON'T GO TO ANTIOCH!!! Nashville is a relatively safe city, at least by big city standards... Antioch is not. The same used to be said about East Nashville but in the last 10 years or so it's been very... Eh... How do I put this... "Gentrified".
The Antioch part is so funny to me.
I grew up there, so things that people deem as not safe, are normal to me.

Local here…The Nashville Scene is the essential source to find whatever type and genre of entertainment or food you’re into. They have a full calendar of the city’s events and do reviews of local artists, restaurants, and shows. They also have local articles and investigative reporting, etc. which gives a good idea what the culture of Nashville is really like and where the locals hang out.

I’ve lived in Davidson, Rutherford and Sumner county. Donelson, Smyrna, and Hendersonville to be exact. I liked living in Hendersonville the best, way more chill, basically no druggies/crimes, and more nature/less super populated.
I just moved here and hate being told I shouldn’t have come. It’s rude. Obviously I came here because I love it. Why can’t it love me? :)

Be it politics, restaurants, culture, etc. that’s what native nashvillians hate is when people move here then try to change it in to little LA/Chicago/NYC. Nashville is starting to lose what made Nashville so amazing.

If you are downtown, you can park at Lot R at Nissan Stadium for free on non event days. Game changing!

I found out about the lot R thing after I paid $30 to park downtown near the library.
After that I was determined to know where the locals park….lol
The other good lot is the Nashville public library. If you get the parking validated before the library closes I think it’s like $1 or $2. Plus there’s an Oscars Taco Shop right across the street. 🤩

@@davidslocum9536 I hate, hate paying for parking. I used to live in LA, and I hated it there. Parking downtown here is just as expensive and I hate it here also.
You can also park at the Wal Mart in Berry Hill and Uber to downtown and it will still be cheaper than parking downtown.

The art gallery in the basement of the Parthenon has a lovely collection. I agree this is a great site for visitors!
The Frist Museum is a smaller museum but their exhibits are awesome and don't take hours and hours to see (unlike the Louvre!!!). This is my favorite size art museum; pop in a for an hour or two max and then push on.
I been there few times. Now I'm exploring the city and I can't stop going back. Beautiful place

You're completely right. Hot Chicken may have been in Nashville for decades, but it was a small thing, mostly unnoticed. Suddenly everyone was talking about Nashville Hot Chicken, and most locals were like, "Huh? Maybe I should try some...?"

Good vid for a great place. I love living here, and while I don't go to Broadway all the time I never get tired of it. I'm an Anaheim native and by the time I was 18 I was sort of done with Disneyland & the beach, though beach cities are great. Nashville offers so many DIFFERENT things to do (music, great eats, history, hiking. country drives). Whenever I'm talking to someone who doesn't live in Nashville and I mention that I live here they always say, "I love/like Nashville"........I do too.
I hope I can get to see Nashville before I die. Love country music and would love to go to Memphis also. Graceland is also on my bucket list. The people sound so friendly in Nashville, and that's what we need more of. Very good video, I enjoyed it. Ty.
Hey! I'm a native and live in Franklin. Thanks for the great review. I enjoy your videos very much ! Big Shakes is a good hot chicken place in Franklin. They also have a great whitefish sandwich. If you want Hattie B's chicken while in Franklin and also want to skip the lines in Nashville , a meat and 3 in Cool Springs called Bishop's serves Hattie's chicken there. Downtown Franklin is a great destination as well. Hope you enjoyed your visit : )
I can 100% second both Big Shakes and Bishops, 2 of my favorite restaurants in the world.
If you go to Bishops and are sick of eating hot chicken, get their grilled chicken, you won't regret it, it's so good!
One of the best parts of our trip to TN was visiting Franklin. We visited on a lark, only because we live in Franklin in another state, and thought the kids would get a kick out of it. Came for the T shirt, and were surprised by a great time!

The busses with people pedaling are called Pedal Taverns, and they are a blight on our city. There have been several instances of people getting hurt when they fall off them or getting hit by a car when they decide to immediately exit the tavern and suddenly theyre on 2nd Ave
I walked downtown the other day for about ten minutes and the pedal taverns and party buses are like an episode of “Girls Gone Wild.” I was embarrassed for the half naked girls twerking.
Agree 100%. More hype is being placed on regulating that, thankfully.

Use to be nice to see the Horses carrying people around down town, to me that's class . Pedal carts that are bars may be ok in places like Key West, were its total flat , But down town on 2 ave to me seems out of place for them,
Loved my visit to Nashville. Did some of the stuff u was talkin about and learned about some stuff that u mentioned while I was in town. But I still learned some stuff from ur video as well. I originally watched it to just lookout for locations I would remember but glad I ended up learning a bit 2.

Don’t miss the Country Music Hall Of Fame is right! The Trans Am from Smokey And The Bandit was there when I went! So was Elvis Presley’s limo! It is a place full of cool surprises! Your so spot on Wolter! Even if you’re not really into country music, it’s still very fun! Nashville as a whole is a real blast with crazy good food too!
Also in regards to not passing up the history while here in Nashville, tourists should also consider visiting Fisk University (HBCU & home of the Jubilee Singers), & Meharry Medical college (HBCU). Jefferson Street is full of African American history. There’s also an African American Music Museum that’s located on Broadway as well.

Just visited Nashville and I can tell it’s growing faster than its infrastructure can handle. Even BNA seemed overwhelmed. Lovely city though. I hope the city has some good planners and can adapt to its growing population while keeping its character.
We’re about 30 year behind on infrastructure, it was just as bad about 15 years ago. We can’t keep up

This is your 5th time coming to Nashville and thinking it changed? How about I’m born and raised here and it is not the same city that it was last week 😂 it has changed so much and some of the places I’ve grown up and use to hang out in are gone and changed it’s crazy. It’s never going to stop growing and changing. I remember when downtown wasn’t safe to go to and when broadway was dead. I’m only 36 years old and it’s crazy yet an amazing city it’s growing to be.

Hey y’all! I live in Franklin, which is just south of Nashville! In Franklin we go to Big Shakes for our hot chicken, but don’t think that’s the only great place to eat here. 😄 Around the town square we have lots of great restaurants and shops, most of which are privately owned and full to the brim with local culture! Keep Franklin on your list of places to go while you visit Nashville!
I was truly amazed at the amount of people that didn't stop for a funeral procession and was cutting it off. Born and raised in Nashville but I dread going there now😕
From South Carolina, funeral processions are big in the south, and too many crazy driving out of towners don't respect it. Rude!
Thanks Mark! I've only seen the Parthenon from the exterior, I'll be sure to see the interior next chance I get, wow that is amazing! I don't remember the year I was last there but the Country Music Hall of Fame had just opened and it is definitely worth a visit. The AT& T Batman building was also fairly new. I also understand that Nashville has a large jazz presence though I don't remember seeing it when I was there One probably has to go off Broadway to find it I would imagine. I'm sure it has to be more than just an annual festival?
The Parthenon also has art exhibits in their downstairs area. Nashville has a wide variety of music so if you just search the nightly/weekly schedules you can find a lot of variety and there are several websites with schedules.
Me and my husband went there last year for our honeymoon. We had a blast. Can't wait to go back there.

I moved from Atlanta to Nashville. It was comical to me hearing people complain about the Nashville traffic. FYI Hattie B's is off the chain!!!!

Waterfalls are the best part of living in Nashville for me and recommend almost EVERYONE. Rock Island, Fall Creek Falls and Greeter falls are my most frequented and some offer kayaking ;)
Addendum: The party bus tours, especially the mobile bar, have been curtailed quite a bit. They were wildly unsafe(who knew barstools and booze in heavy traffic were a bad idea?). Uber and Lyft are available, as well as some new bus lines that circle The Gulch and Centennial Park, near the Farmer's Market, and AAA Sounds baseball, and not terribly far from Germantown. Car rental isn't cheap, but is really helpful in this metro area and beautiful surrounding areas.
I was just in Nashville for the first time a week ago. It was great! We only took two lyfts. We walked everywhere. Our walks were sometimes an hour, but we are from NYC so an hour walk isn’t crazy. Didn’t get to try the original Prince hot chick though as that would have required a decent drive. Hattie B’s and The Row had great hot chicken we were able to try. Party Fowl was too Hot for me! Was painful to eat lol

Nashville native here to remind people to check out all the other food we have to offer. We’ve got some killer Thai, Greek, and Italian around town too! Also we all know you’re a tourist if you’re wearing the boots. You ain’t foolin no one.
Prince's was the first and by far the best hot chicken anywhere. Be careful though, it's a bit hotter than most in the area. The white bread on the bottom of the chicken soaks up all the good stuff.

I recommend visiting the Belle Meade Plantation (15-20 min drive from downtown). There are tours to learn about the history of the original family, their slaves and the horses they bred there. Not too far away from that is Cheekwood Botanical Gardens which has a beautiful mansion you can tour inside which also houses an art gallery. Cheers!
You can also visit the graves of 2 presidents here. The 11th is buried at the Capitol building (which incidentally is the oldest State Capitol still in use) and you can visit home of the 7th out in Hermitage, which is one of only 3 presidential homes (along with Mt Vernon & Monticello) not run by the Federal Parks service.
