Back in the 50's 60's 70's & somewhat 80's you had to be talented x 1000. There were so few studio's, record labels and publishing co. if weren't uber talented you were run outta town. Only the best of the best were signed cause they were put on this earth to be musicians..... Record labels would stand by you and help develop your sound. You weren't dropped after 2 albums just cause you had a small drop in sales. The door has been kicked so wide open that anyone with pro tools in there basement and a half ass written song can make it. And oh yeah. Record ex question. How does he look in a pair of jeans? Is he handsome? Are his teeth pearly white and does he have t-shirt muscles? Yes sir. And a by the way can he sing? That's nashville folks. Guys like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash etc.... would never make these days cause looks came 5th and the music came 1st. Oh well Im out

Makes me laugh seeing the skinny-jean wearing, wannabe hipsters, but I have respect for anyone chasing a dream. I hope popular music goes back to basics. Most of the time it's over-produced and doesn't have soul- especially current country music.

Did I hear that right? A guy named Ethan Opelt,AKA Movement Nashville, is trying to organize non-country musicians to promote the non-country music scene. First of all let me say that is a severe case of poor judgement. Would you move to southern California to promote a non-surfing culture? Second, let me say, the Mayor should have you and your co-horts run out of town forever.

The standard of music these days is so low that anyone willing to do it is automatically accepted as an "artist". It's an insult to those before us who have spent their entire wakeing moments perfecting their music.

This is exactly why eight years later, Taylor Swift is the only one pathetically making any money. If this is the future of Nashville, we're in a lot of trouble...Sad.

I'm not surprised the "artists" in this video must live in shacks and wait tables. The music sounded like an American Idol of Folk Wannabe Hipsters compilation.

All the people in Nashville and Tennessee are scumbags and that's a fact.

These are my thoughts on this Documentary. I was considering moving to Nashville, and after viewing this video I'm reluctant to follow through. I know what's wrong with every song in this Documentary, and I'm sure there are about 100 producers/A&R people who understand this. There are probably less than 100 producers who know how to 'fix' the songs. Of those few who know how to 'fix' the songs (make them hit material) they can be retained at price levels outside the budget of a Nashville musician's income. Place a producer & one of these songwriters in a room together, and you may go nowhere fast. How can I be so negative? Well, I'm sure these songwriters believe their songs are amazing. They've been told by everyone, EVERYONE, how great they are. The trouble with 'everyone' is that they may not have an A&R ear about what constitutes hit material. Focusing yet further, there's the variable of money: If a producer doesn't pay a songwriter/performer a certain amount of money, the ability for that musician to stick it out 40 hours a week until their songs are transformed into hit material (did I fail to mention session player cost.. oh, and support staff?) well, now you can begin to understand WHY this Documentary has such a bitter/sweet vibe about it. What should be done about this? Well, I've tried to work with certain individuals with the intent to produce a radio ready, but its nearly impossible unless you've got front money to keep them interested. The offer goes something like this: The producer agrees to work with the vocalist/writer, and without pay. The compensation for work comes from unit sales, and not from 'dreams of stardom' as is the case with most studios today. What this does is makes the producer EARN HIS MONEY! rather than for the engineer & songwriter to do all the work.
