How many gave their lives under his command to put The Rider into that prison, and how can he possibly do alone what they died to accomplish? But it's still his duty to try, and he absolutely does everything he possibly can.

On my first playthrough, right at the end of the fight, I saw how after that massive combo his attacks became slower and slower... He was exhausted, he knew he stood no chance of winning, but he kept fighting anyways... In the end, he really never gave up. He couldn't.

I love how this boss was effectively the second coming of the Chain. Except, instead of an emotionless husk constructed only to torture you, this was a real man, with a real family.
I believe Chain was a real human being as well, tasked with keeping the Stranger weakened by constant torture. They couldn't have been just torturing him for the sadistic pleasure of it, I don't think Stranger can even feel the pain at all. They just hoped to keep him in a weakened state to reduce his chance of escape
@@noname-ov8lm eh, The Chain probably was deriving pleasure from The Rider’s pain, but I don’t think it’s in an entirely sadistic way. I think it’s more likely that The Rider killed someone The Chain cared about, and The Chain is torturing him as personal revenge.

I really like how The Voice doesn't say anything bad about The Hand, like he did for The Song. If you kill The Hand, you're killing a hero. It's made clear that you are the villain here
Except you are only a villain because of what you are. It's not your fault that your being is toxic to their world. They locked you up instead of sending you away. There is nothing stopping the mothership force from sending more of player character. Heck, your character can choose to fight to protect your jailers IN SPITE of how they treated you. And it's also pretty obvious that the Chain was more of a villain. Senseless cruelty that would only motivate your escape and revenge.

If you want to hear an excellent performance by the VA if you haven’t already, check out the game Faust: The Seven Games of the Soul where Geoffrey Bateman plays the character Mephistopheles, who appears as if he’s supposed to be the main antagonist at first but turns out to be much more complex. The game has some pretty ugly character models and the story doesn’t always make sense, but Mephistopheles’s character is genuinely really good.
That bit of lore the Voice gives you pre fight is quite ironic when you really think about it. "He lead hundreds of them against you, is that fair?" While in reality it must have been an epic, desperate battle for humanity considering the Scale and Flame are possibly the "lucky" ones in the Hands Army.
I just realized that The Hand was fighting for a lot, for his family, for the world, and it all gave him strength. He knew what his battle with Rider (the "protagonist" of the game) cost. But he lost, he lost to someone who has nothing to fight for, lost to someone who's alone, who has no soul. There's also something in his last attack. The combo on his last breath, especially the last blows, when he was already desperate, he could not believe that he was losing, that he was about to lose so much, with such stakes. He will lose too much, he is too weak against evil, something that does not understand what people are sacrificing to stop him so that he would not destroy their world. But what does Rider do? Kills him, the father of a poor child, who's future is now under a threat. Did Rider feel anything when he did this? No one knows and will never know.
To my mind, what Rider feels or does not feel depends on the player itself. If the player feels something, then Rider feels too. If the player doesn't feel anything, then Rider just as emotionless. That is how I perceive the game. You start with hate and then gradually realize who you actually are

"Rabbit Head" aka The Voice aka The Architect, built the "prison" you are trapped in and along with The Song, chose the "jailers" who would stand guard to prevent you from returning to the planet. Everything worked fine until one of them got the jitters and wanted to go home to his little girl... that being The Voice aka The Architect aka "Rabbit Head". It's possible The Hand (this tracks boss) avoided this personal conflict by bringing his son with him. I don't believe any of them are aware of The Voices betrayal, so The Hand didn't take his son along to prevent a specific outcome, he just knew his resolve would waver without being able to see his son (he would forget what they fight for... hence track title).
I found it neat that this fight features the classic "Link vs. Ganon orb reflect battle", however, the twist is, you play the role of Ganon firing the orbs, and the Hand is the one that reflects first.
Actually, no. The Stranger is very much the protagonist. SPOILER Being a villain and the protagonist are not mutually exclusive, after all. The guardians are all antagonists, but are heroic antagonists.

I love the idea of a clash between a classic knight and a wandering samurai in this fight. It gives a nice touch in making this battle seem grander, as two opposed sides clash.
This is when you begin to wonder if you're really supposed to be the hero in this story... Also, it's not a good idea to shoot this guy's shield with a charge shot. Holy shit, the reflected damage.
You don't have to use a charged shot for the trophy guys lol just use a regular shot that deals like half a square of health if you mess up, rather than a charged shot that takes half of your entire health.
It's pretty obvious during The Scale fight already. And even The Line is giving you a clue that something is up even if he never says if it's good or bad.

Man I am so happy they used Carpenter Brut music in Samurai Jack season 5 promos, it just continued to remind me of this game and I'm so happy they used his music.
The Chain fell to a man who had escaped his own shackles. The Strap died finally free from bodily restraint but too lost to see it. A Line without time was stopped when his fortune abruptly changed direction. The Scale was tipped out of his own favour. The Hand gave up the strong grip on his shield out of desperation. The Song failed to lull her enemy into giving up. The Burst was out-lasted against a sustained attack. The Edge, upon meeting his rival, could never have been sharp enough. The Beat could only flee when faced with her enemy's drums of war. In the end, when it was only one sombre Voice against his own fleet, the Rider proved only he held the reins to his destiny, and outshined the Star.
Architect: "You'll be next, Hand." Hand: "Indeed I will." Song: "No. You've done your part. Go, be with your son. Take your leave." Hand: "It is precisely because of my son that I cannot leave. I must do everything in my power to keep the world safe for him." Architect: "And are you prepared for the eventuality that you'll leave your child without a father?" Hand: "I am. Were you?"

Definetely my favorite boss fight. Not because of the difficulty, although I must say, unlike the previous ones this was the one I found the most fun, but because of what it did with the narrative. Suddenly you realise things aren't as simple as "The jailor is the key. Kill him and you will be free." Furi is not only a mechanically great game, but also a narrative treat.
Even before buying the game, i kind of knew what was going on. We were inside of a *prison*, not a cage, not an slave cellar, we were not a good guy. But even when i knew the Stranger was not the hero, i kind of expected him to not be THAT bad. But, in the last guardian battle, when The Beat is practically crying and screaming for help, asking you to not scape, thats when i got the real perception of what kind of ~treat~ the Stranger was, and oh dear god, that Free World scene, with everything dying around our feet, was so fucking satisfying, and, at the same time, so terrifying, it felt horrible. I made my choice even before talking to The Star, i was going to get my redemption. But, this boss, The Hand, made me feel the same as when i watch any Undyne the undying boss battle: I wanted him to win, even when i gave my best, i wanted HIM to win, for he was the real hero.
God, the scene with The Beat like tore me up. It came out so suddenly, and I got fucking Sif flashbacks. Honestly, that was the moment that I was absolutely sold on this game's narrative. It was so fucking good, fuck.

Sounds about right. Seriously man there was a update a while back and the moment i had to dial down the intense hope it of it making killing bosses optional. There`s a lot of bosses that deserved better then they got, and killing the beat in particular still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Being the first Guardian to actually feel like close quarters combat for the entirety of it, this fight was SO enjoyable. Even though I first tried him, his fight was the most intense, continually, and also most satisfying and enjoyable. What a great game.
Well, HE is the one that captured you, and put you in chains, so The Chain could shock you to death OVER and OVER again. If that isn't an arch-nemesis then idk what is lol, but it was still a very enjoyable fight, at least until The Hand went crazy at the end of the fight, then I just finished it cause it wasn't fun anymore.
The final rampage was my favorite part. He was desperate and fought for what he thought would give him strength. That was his final attempt to kill you, and he slows down in fatigue as you continually deflect or evade his attacks.
This is really when the game all fell into place for me. The Chain I was thinking he was so cruel, surely these must have been my former fellows and they have usurped me but need me alive for something. The Strap they told me showed up out of nowhere and was like me, so maybe I was an outsider they sought to exploit just like her? The Line believed I was resisting destiny, so they definitely did need me for something important? The Scale blamed me for what happened to him, so they were using him against me but had I caused some sort of accident? The Hand claimed to have originally subdued me, so they had spared me. And yet... they were disgusted by me. This noble, selfless, duty-bound man was willing to sacrifice so much just to send me back to prison. Saw me and saw only anathema, emptiness, evil. It made him sick, but he still refused to kill me. Now I really needed to know just what the hell was going on here.
Haha can totally imagine a video with just the Hand in his last phase and the two letters "R1,R1,R1,R1...No stamina...R1" keeps popping out with each attack
after playing through this game on furier and modding my beatsaber I noticed a severe lack of furi songs in there despite them being absolute bangers I wish this one was in the custom song list.
The Hand, The Burst, and The Edge are my three favorite bosses from this game, and The Song offers my favorite ending (so far). I still have yet to defeat The Star...
This boss was satisfying to fight. The rythm i got into was almost systematic. The way he rushed me with the music. I always intentionally hit him with his shield up so i can counter him and get in a takedown.
iirc 2:55 is played a lot during the fight (it reboots that part of the track) and thats what made the music memorable to me. i dont like this music to listen to but during the fight I believe it is sensitive to what is happening right? Then it is amazing
TheCompleteMental Little late but yeah these games are definitely comparable, I thought DS3 was not too bad at all especially since there are ways of cheesing most hard bosses. This game was way quicker though-you didn't have to waste time on loading screens and little enemies getting to the boss.

Man I just got the Definitive Edition for 6$, beat the game today and set the theme. Holy shit it's so epic. Both the art and the music. 6$ well spent.
this fight was the third of my wins in a row without losing all 3 lives. at the last phase, I had all 3 lives, and beat the regular segment decently easily. Then came close combat. My parrying game is on point, but the attacks progressively slowing threw me off rhythm twice, putting me at 1 life. Then I got put off rhythm again, but got sorta back on rhythm, and just barely survived the last attack with a close dodge. I would have died to any attack with my surviving HP. Peak stress levels I tell you.

Lowkey one of the best bosses in the game for the lack of any cheap trick up his sleeve. Just an honest, honorable man-to-man fight.
It's one of the reasons why him and the edge are my favourite bosses

The funny thing is in reality, the stakes for The Stranger are just as big as they are for The Hand.

Definetely my favorite boss fight. Not because of the difficulty, although I must say, unlike the previous ones this was the one I found the most fun, but because of what it did with the narrative. Suddenly you realise things aren't as simple as "The jailor is the key. Kill him and you will be free." Furi is not only a mechanically great game, but also a narrative treat.

Even before buying the game, i kind of knew what was going on. We were inside of a *prison*, not a cage, not an slave cellar, we were not a good guy. But even when i knew the Stranger was not the hero, i kind of expected him to not be THAT bad.
But, in the last guardian battle, when The Beat is practically crying and screaming for help, asking you to not scape, thats when i got the real perception of what kind of ~treat~ the Stranger was, and oh dear god, that Free World scene, with everything dying around our feet, was so fucking satisfying, and, at the same time, so terrifying, it felt horrible. I made my choice even before talking to The Star, i was going to get my redemption.
But, this boss, The Hand, made me feel the same as when i watch any Undyne the undying boss battle: I wanted him to win, even when i gave my best, i wanted HIM to win, for he was the real hero.
God, the scene with The Beat like tore me up. It came out so suddenly, and I got fucking Sif flashbacks. Honestly, that was the moment that I was absolutely sold on this game's narrative. It was so fucking good, fuck.
I'm sorry for pointing this out but forgetting the H in threat gives that sentence an entirely different meaning haha

There`s a lot of bosses that deserved better then they got, and killing the beat in particular still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Being the first Guardian to actually feel like close quarters combat for the entirety of it, this fight was SO enjoyable. Even though I first tried him, his fight was the most intense, continually, and also most satisfying and enjoyable. What a great game.

This song is definitely made for an "Arch-Nemesis" boss fight.
Well, HE is the one that captured you, and put you in chains, so The Chain could shock you to death OVER and OVER again. If that isn't an arch-nemesis then idk what is lol, but it was still a very enjoyable fight, at least until The Hand went crazy at the end of the fight, then I just finished it cause it wasn't fun anymore.
The final rampage was my favorite part. He was desperate and fought for what he thought would give him strength. That was his final attempt to kill you, and he slows down in fatigue as you continually deflect or evade his attacks.
I don't even know what was happening back then but the fucking build up in the song as you slowly walk to the arena was making the hype.
Best boss battle so far, loving the soundtrack!

This is really when the game all fell into place for me.
The Chain I was thinking he was so cruel, surely these must have been my former fellows and they have usurped me but need me alive for something.
The Strap they told me showed up out of nowhere and was like me, so maybe I was an outsider they sought to exploit just like her?
The Line believed I was resisting destiny, so they definitely did need me for something important?
The Scale blamed me for what happened to him, so they were using him against me but had I caused some sort of accident?
The Hand claimed to have originally subdued me, so they had spared me. And yet... they were disgusted by me. This noble, selfless, duty-bound man was willing to sacrifice so much just to send me back to prison. Saw me and saw only anathema, emptiness, evil. It made him sick, but he still refused to kill me. Now I really needed to know just what the hell was going on here.

This boss was satisfying to fight. The rythm i got into was almost systematic. The way he rushed me with the music. I always intentionally hit him with his shield up so i can counter him and get in a takedown.

Little late but yeah these games are definitely comparable, I thought DS3 was not too bad at all especially since there are ways of cheesing most hard bosses. This game was way quicker though-you didn't have to waste time on loading screens and little enemies getting to the boss.

Of all of the bosses in Furi, The Hand was the fight that made me saddest.
2:55 the real fight begins
this fight was the third of my wins in a row without losing all 3 lives. at the last phase, I had all 3 lives, and beat the regular segment decently easily. Then came close combat. My parrying game is on point, but the attacks progressively slowing threw me off rhythm twice, putting me at 1 life. Then I got put off rhythm again, but got sorta back on rhythm, and just barely survived the last attack with a close dodge. I would have died to any attack with my surviving HP. Peak stress levels I tell you.
