Thank you so much for this! I’ve seen so many well intentioned UA-cam videos on how to hide the parts of your body that you’re not happy with but most of them neglect to encourage us to identify and highlight what we love about ourselves. When I see some women who are so covered up with no joy in their outfits I often think that they’ve given up. I’m not giving up because I believe there is always something about me that’s worth celebrating. Brava Alyssa!
Fantastic! I finally reframed my thinking and decided I wanted people to look at my face. I bought fun big earrings, lip colors, and sparkly eyeshadows. De-cluttering my closet became so easy because I could let go of tops I didn't like that didn't suit my goal for reasons like wrong color for my face, uncomfortable, poor fit. Shopping is so much easier now because I ask myself does this garment draw attention to my face?
@@AlyssaBeltempo thank you! Your videos over the years have really helped me and influenced my thinking regarding my closet and my shopping habits. I'm much more content and comfortable in my own skin and confident in what I'm wearing
My first instinct was to comment with “No that is not right to tell people they are perfect when they are NOT” then I remembered my mother saying “the French focus on their assets and just ignore their imperfections, that’s their secret” I think I forgot that. You are right, thank you.
Thank you for this beautiful reminder. Only when I had a health scare I looked at my body with appreciation and promised to cherish it as is. While working to enhance it in a kind loving way …❤
True! Great advice! I wear shorts, always!!!! Dress shorts, tweed, denim, linen you name it, why? I have very long legs! I highlight my best feature. On the rare occasion when I do not wear shorts my friends think something is wrong! Lol!
LOVE this!! Thank you!🥰 I’m so sick of being bombarded with so-called helpful advice to “Hide this” or “Camouflage that”! Why are we still promoting the discounting of women? Instead of “body positivity” how about “body acceptance”?
Alyssa, I can’t tell you how much your videos have affected my internal voice over the last couple of months that I’ve spent binge watching them. I struggle sometimes accepting messages from people who’s bodies are, by definition, “perfect”, but your authentic care and concern for your viewers comes through in your words and your actionable advice. As a 50 year old SAHM, I’ve lived in sweats and T-shirts far too many of my days. I’m slowly curating my own wardrobe to amplify and highlight the things that really bring me joy and make me feel good when I walk out the door. Thank you for the inspiration and confidence building!
Love your advice! I hide behind my clothes haha… after gaining weight from having to stop running due to blood clots and now menopause… I need to hide this person I have become. I don’t recognize her anymore so I hide… it’s not ideal but I will try to find something positive and highlight it and see how it goes… thank you:)
Thank you for sharing this. I've decided to get rid of some oversized, super baggy tshirts because I feel like they just swallow me in fabric and hide who I am.
Thank you. I'm quite low after bereavement, but I agree with what you're saying. I like my slightly odd colouring and love my clothing colour palette so I'm going with that even though I struggle with shapes.
Another great video Alyssa. Hiding parts of our body we may not like actually brings about insecurities that do not let us shine in other aspects of who we are as human beings. We have so much more to offer!
It's an interesting "law of attraction" thing that happens when we focus on "hiding" something. If we focus on "the hiding" we get more of what we don't like ❤️❤️❤️.
I notice you started having more of a sexy flare on some looks. Because of covid and aging weight gain I got into oversize garment. I will try to love the skin I am in and take care of it like it take care of me. Love this!
It’s easier for you to say the things that you say in your video because your body is perfect. Your height is perfect. Your complexion is perfect but not everyone has that. I do agree that we have to focus on the better parts of our body such as size, shape and or height. Having a good personality is important also with a good attitude. your outer appearance should reflect a positive inner personality. You should make the best you can with your body because somethings cannot be changed. Outer beauty is not as important as inner beauty because outer beauty does not usually last forever. It’s about how you project yourself to others from the inside out. Inner beauty is the main thing that draws people to you not outer beauty, but there should be a good balance between the outer and inner. Confidence is the key to do anything in life. Your video allows me to express what I think. Thanks.
It's so easy to say what you said when your body looks good in everything. I had that until I was 50 then went thru menopause. Your body shifts. Your weight shifts. You wouldn't understand.
Yes. Alyssa has something rather close to what our society considers an idea body - tall and thin - flat stomach, slender legs, perky breasts. Clothes hang on her beautifully in a way they wouldn’t hang on a short and voluptuous gal like me. No I am now saying my body is bad or flawed, but I wouldn’t feel happy or confident in some of the flesh-baring or oversized looks often featured on this channel.
It’s very true. All of you young women will look back at photos of yourselves in 30 years and réalise just how perfect you were and you just did not réalise it.
So true! I was sooo hard on myself. Now, I would looove to look like that again! Oh well, it’s not possible so I’m just ( finally, at 60) accepting what I look like right now. Is it great? No! Lol! But I’m finally ok with that. Life goes by in a flash. My goal is to make the most of each day, making it beautiful, but in a wabi sabi kind of way. Imperfect and interesting!
YOUR body is perfect. Mine is disgusting. I have battled menopause weight gain followed by chemo weight gain thanks to steroids. My boob is mutilated. I have varicose veins all over my legs so I cannot wear shorts. I am 172cm tall and 77 kg. I look like a beached whale. I cannot tuck anything into my pants thanks to my muffin top. My body hurts and is constantly tired and it shows on my face..
I am so sorry for all you have been through! I haven’t nearly been through all that and I still find many parts of my body look disgusting. I have just decided that it doesn’t matter as much to me as it once did. I’m 60, have wrinkles but still deal with breakouts, I’m too heavy and have cellulite even when I’m smaller. I have spent my whole life covering my skin with makeup, coloring my hair, covering my body. I live in Florida so most of the time I was so hot! Finally, this year, at 60, I decided that was enough of all that! I quit dying my hair a few years ago, no nail polis, and most of the time no makeup. I did an 8 week, no makeup challenge. It was tough but I finally felt free. I may wear a little foundation on special occasions but that’s it. I wear some sleeveless tops, which I haven’t done in years. I even wore a pair of shorts over my bathing suit at a friend’s house. Lol! I haven’t even owned a pair of shorts in probably 30 years! Do I look any better? No. But, honestly, who cares! It is just so freeing to let it all go. I wear cute clothes and like style but I quit putting crazy expectations on myself. I hope you will give yourself some grace. I know that horrible feeling and I know it seems impossible, but caring less about how you look to yourself or others is very liberating! 🥰
@@flamingofan5411 It's 3 mo later reading your post (Jan 2024). I could just sense the fun of your spirit bursting out of the conformity of colored hair, nails done, full face of makeup and appropriate clothes. Which things can often be quite ageing. Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated your story here.

Love this positive attitude and advice to change your mindset to focusing on the good bits rather than the not-so-good.

Lovely said! Thank you. It’s hard fighting and hiding my aging body, really tiresome. Your proposal is a life changing and I’ll make it work. ❤
Oooh thank you. How much love and depth. Thank you so much for putting this message and challenge out. ❤️

You are one of the most stylish people I have seen. I really like how you put things together and shop your own closet.

Wouldn't there always be at least something you could think of to like about your body? Be it small ❤
I mean... you're body is perfect. So long and toned.
Love this!! Do u have a link for the crispy white blouse with petal type collar?
While I agree with the sentiment, I feel it maybe be easier to preach & believe when you're "thin privileged".
