Hello from Tokyo, Japan. I think Scandinavian countries and Japan has some similarity when it comes to aesthetics. And I love Danish fashion! I just bought Ganni dress and flat shoes.
Would love a video on how to stay stylish while cycling. My long coat often gets caught in the back wheel of my bicycle. I really struggle to look chic while also being practical on my bike!
What coat is it? I know a trick for dresses and thin coats (like rainwear for example): close your coat and take a big button or even a 5 kroner coin and hold it BEHIND your legs in the middle at the hight of your knees (stand with a bit "opened" legs). Push it a bit forward between your knees. Then grab the button with both the back and front cloth with the other hand and hold it all together. Then - tadaa! - take a rubber band (best a bit thicker one) or a rubber band for hair (don't know, how it's called in English) out of your pocket and wrap it around the covered button or coin as long as it holds tight all together. Mostly you have enough place for moving, so you can ride your bike without any problems (except a men's bike I guess). Try it, it helped me in several situations. But be aware, that it can leave some "crash effect" depending on the material of your clothes 😉
I love Danish and Swedish fashion and the concept of living. It's something I want to learn how to dress up comfortably and fashionably. Love your channel. Keep up the great work ❤
I’m so excited to see a video that combines slow/minimalist fashion and hygge. I discovered both concepts a few years ago and have really resonated with them and incorporated them in my life. They seem to be a perfect pairing, so I hope you do more of these. I also love seeing your beautiful surroundings and architecture. Would love to visit some day.
A pleasure to discover your video. My child (plus grandsons now😅) is married to a kind man and lives in Denmark. As soon as I can I come to visit her and like it also because I love food, ambiance in the cafes, markets, simple fashion, design, boats, North Sea etc..I am waiting for my next trip with impatience ! ❤
Very similar to Canadian style particularly near our urban centres. I enjoy your channel as I love your looks and as I deal with four distinct seasons, there’s a practicality that I need in my wardrobe choices as well. I always enjoy the inspiration.
Sort of. I’m Canadian and have been living in DK for over a decade. Danish dressing doesn’t always have the practicality of Canadian fashion. For example, in winter you rarely see a Dane with a hat/toque even carried with them. In most of Canada if it isn’t necessary you at least have one tucked on you somewhere. They (Danes) instead wear enormous bulky scarves wrapped up to their ears. They also love bling more than Canadians - worn for any occasion. Canadians are generally more subdued. Danes are casually neat. Their blundstones look new and they are quite often neat… no shirttails untucked or baggy loose t-shirts. Their love of black can just be depressing.
I just returned to Sweden from a cozy weekend in Hornbaek and Gilleleje in Denmark and I couldn’t agree more with you Signe. I did some people watching and can only say that Danish people are so stylish, even when it’s cold and rainy. They look very put together, while being very comfortable. Long puffy coats, colorful scarves and gloves, either hiking shoes or Ilse Jacobsen rubber boots 😍 always some minimal makeup and clean hair. Very elegant. Also, more colors than I expected. Thanks for this video, I really enjoyed it 😊
This is a very accurate depiction of the danish style! I love your sage green coat. I like mixing it with french style, where we don´t wear all black but we do love the neutrals....
This was really interesting. In the UK we also get a lot of rain so I often wonder how people can wear teddy coats or suede boots without them getting soaked. You gave me some great inspiration for outfits- I really like the ‘wrong shoe’ idea ❤
I wear my wavy hair natural, without styling it, and just sunscreen and lip balm on the vast majority of days. If wearing a dark color, or for dressing up more, I’ll wear some blush and lipstick. My eyes have become so sensitive over the years that I just can’t tolerate eye makeup anymore. During my career, although I always tried for a natural-looking makeup look, I really needed a polished, more-makeup look for my corporate office, with foundation, concealer, eye makeup, etc. I enjoy not having to do all that every morning now that I’m retired.
I always love and appreciate your content, Signe. Thanks for being such an inspiring, and positive & thoughtful presence on social media… I definitely credit my fav wardrobe basics to you, and watching your early content and evolution over the years ❤
I'm picturing people agonizing in front of their mirror over "does my outfit look effortless enough". LOL. The aesthetic is "I didn't try at all" but the reality is they tried very hard to *look* like they didn't try.
Thank you for this video. I'm learning your fashion styles and I love them. Can you make more videos about Danish (copenhagen) fashion please. Also, lookbook or outfits and how you guys put them together. What is your fashion essentials? Thank you and looking forward to these videos. ♡ May
I love this style, but I live in the wrong climate. It’s HOT here except for winter and then it still doesn’t get very cold. Occasionally there will be a crazy frigid day or two, but overall, it’s like 40F/4C in the dead of winter. I love cold weather clothes. Need to move to Denmark ❤
I'm with you, black looks awful on me, my colouring is too warm. I use navy as my wardrobe base colour. Thanks for a great vlog, watching from New Zealand.
Remember not all danes wear boring colors like Grey and beige all the time, WE are some who colors wich suits our skin, eyes and hair and are not blending in with those who always chose the boring Grey/black/beige shades , but chose a more colorfull side of our colortests 😊
hey signe 🧡 i think i'm a very similar colour type like you. and i really like your lipstick. can you maybe recommend this one? or tell me the colour of it? is it something more like berry? :)
I wouldn’t fit in there, I have wear skirts and dresses. I would love to wear jeans, but in 50 years I’ve never found even one pair with a reasonable fit, my body shape just doesn’t work in jeans. I don’t fit in much in my native US, either, or anywhere else for that matter, in my skirts and dresses, everyone else only wears gym wear, which I hate. I finally, at age 63, found some (no fly) trousers that fit pretty well and have been buying them in my neutral and basic colors: Franne Gold and Crazy Larry brands. I simply have no waist, hip or thigh curves at all, I’m straight as a yard-stick, except for a strangely, naturally large bust. All women’s, and most men’s trousers/jeans just fall right down off my skinny hips, no matter how tight I get them. The best-fitting jeans I’ve found are men’s 501s. I wouldn’t say they fit well at all, the thighs are enormous, but at least they don’t make people laugh until they cry when they see them on me, like women’s jeans. I got a peculiar mix of genes, I suppose, like Mother Nature couldn’t quite make up her mind, or just threw in whatever was left over.
Thank you for your kind comment! I use Ren skincare, their evercalm range! And then I swear by the ilia super serum skin tint, it’s a super light foundation 😄🙏🏻
They look good but a bit predictable. This style and French fashion only work on tall skinny mostly white women...Find the thing that suits your body shape and tone. I'm a not tall skinny person of colour and I need something else to flatter my own body and my skin tone.
The key to Danish style is boring there is zero style in beige, grey, black or brown ..its lazy dressing and doesn’t reflect individual personalities ..be creative ?
Finally! An actually correct and accurate depiction of Danish style compared to the typical "fashion" influencers, who believe that all Danish people are walking on the runway
I have SAD (yes, it’s real). Even here in the South of the US I feel depressed in the months following Christmas. I read and reread The Little Book of Hygge for some inspiration ❤️
A very nice take on Danish style and very much consistent with what I observed there. Fun and interesting, thanks, Signe! Would love to see more on all things Danish lifestyle, including hygge.
We were in Copenhagen about 12 years ago in July for 10 days. My husband was attending a pork convention for four of those days, so I was able to do some tours of castles, etc. It was very unseasonable hot!! Luckily our hotel had air conditioning. The last night of the convention there was a lovely dinner, ballet and dance at the the beautiful Opera House. We loved Copenhagen!! The people were so nice and friendly and we loved all the outside cafes!!
🇬🇧 My husband works in Denmark and I went last year in December, also going back next week. I love Copenhagen and did notice how laid back the fashion was. I like it, and can’t wait for next week to come 🌲
Great video, thank you for posting this. I live in Interior Alaska and this is a style we practice also. There is a real style up here called "Alaska formal" which would include standard formal attire all the way down to overalls with bunny boots. Anything goes up here at formal functions (well most formal functions). This video has given me some wonderful ideas on how to style my sequin skirt for everyday wear in November and December working at the Antique shop.
No idea why YT recommended this video for me considering I live in Finland and basically we Nordic people share the same minimal esthetics. But that said it seems people are enjoining this video a lot and it's great to have these sort of videos alongside the Parisian ones which seems to dominate the guides ;p
Canadian here. Used to live in a climate more like Denmark but now fully in the mountains. Your video a few years back about how to layer and still wear a nice coat (that's how I remember it anyhow) was a revelation. wearing a liner layer + big scarf + fun hat to give a 'colder' temperature range to my wool coats lets the coats be a beautiful part of the outfit. To put it more precisely: other than for certain extreme outdoor activities I HATE wearing puffer coats that tend to ruin the look of the outfit underneath. So the idea that the necessary weather items should also be well-chosen to fit your personal style is liberating.
Hi Signe, this was really interesting and confirmed what I observed when I was traveling in Denmark last month. The esthetic isn't my particular cup of tea, for me personally it's a little too desaturated and minimal. I get bored when there is so little colour, I'm more on the side of dopamine dressing 😉. I know you added colourful options but, at least from my observations, wearing bolder colours seemed to be more the exeption? However, I do get behind the laid-back feeling and keeping things practical (well, I'm german...). Would you say Danes are usually more stylish than Germans? I don't mean in Berlin & Kobenhavn, but in the smaller and mid-sized cities & towns. Cheers, Sophie
I wouldn’t say Danes are more stylish than Germans or anyone for that matter, I do however personally appreciate that the dress code is generally so laid back here - but then again, I’m biased as I was born and raised here haha! Thanks for watching! ❤️🙏🏻
There's definitely more variety in the bigger cities, compared to more provincial towns. When I first moved to Denmark, it was one of the things I noticed - I live on the West Coast, and the style is definitely minimal and neutral, but go to Aarhus or Copenhagen and a little more colour sneaks in, and the silhouettes vary much more. Its the same around the world - bigger cities are just more varied. Me, I love the minimal silhouettes, but I often add pops of my beloved reds and blues.
I wish snowsuits would become popular in the cold states in the US. Only skiers and snowboarders wear them here. They are usually so colorful, it’s fun to see bright colors in the winter.
Maybe you can give me some advice. I prefer A-line dresses and skirts to trousers and jeans because they are more flattering to my figure. What is a good way to "Danish them up?" The only thing that comes to my mind is flats and a blazer. As for "the wrong shoe" I've got that nailed as I wear Vibram Five Fingers exclusively.
Flip flops should only be worn to the beach/swimming pool. Fullstop. Not only they are not very stylish to put it mildly, but they are also very bad for your feet and posture as a result! 🫠

I love Danish & Swedish fashion, it seems minimalist but there is always a cool shape or small detail to elevate it.
Here for all the real world Danish fashion tips! 😍😍😍
I am all for casual. Love natural fibers, jeans and comfortable shoes!

Can you please give us examples of this style with curvier girls? I don’t feel that this would suit the curvy body shape. Great content, thank you. 👏

Practical with a fun or trend twist is how I envision Northern European urban folk would dress :)

As I am head to toe in black today, I would do fine in Denmark!
