  • In this conversation, which was filmed at the Friends United International Convention Centre in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. Mi’kmaq artist Shianne Gould and Nancy Regan discuss Shianne’s career and her journey in becoming an artist. They also discuss artwork, which Shianne Gould and her mother, Loretta Gould, have collaborated on and how much the mother-daughter team inspires each other. Loretta is also a world-renowned Indigenous painter.
Both Shianne and Loretta are part of the Friends United circle, and Shianne describes how much the Friends United not-for-profit has impacted her family and the growth of her career. She also speaks to how much her family has grown in terms of entrepreneurship, craftsmanship, and becoming a cultural ambassador for the Indigenous people of Turtle Island (North America). Friends United not-for-profit has been working with the mother-daughter team for more than 10 years by offering business opportunities, free art supplies, and so much more. Shianne and Loretta still visit the Friends United International Convention Centre regularly to share their stories, new artwork, and pick up new art supplies.
Most importantly, during this conversation, you will note how art has impacted Shianne on her journey toward healing and reconciliation.
