Matt, I'm a retired cop. We carried the ASP brand, and they worked fine. You get what you pay for. The primary reason that some cops won't use it is because of excessive force complaints / lawsuits.
In Poland, an expandable baton as well as many other self-defense tools, such as pepper spray, is legal and I think it is a good thing, because there is something to defend yourself just in case.
I used an ASP A50 to protect myself from an attack by a German shepherd and a husky mix. On first contact the husky spooked and ran back, the GSD lunged and I used a parrying movement to divert its head with the edge of the baton, it regained balance and lunged again, this time I preformed a thrust just above the jugular notch and the dog was done. Not seriously injured, but done. The owner who’s been letting them “off leash” actually thanked me and apologized. I think people are thinking of the baton incorrectly and don’t know what to do with it and that is why it is ineffective and dangerous. My granddad was a five combat jump WW2 vet from the 82nd airborne and the man would not go anywhere without a self made billy club or walking stick. My father in law is a 35 plus year police veteran and S.W.A.T Founding member and he swears to this day by a straight stick (he doesn’t use modern technique). To me if you know what you’re doing it’s very effective. It’s also very easy to procure a baton like implement anywhere. I hate to see it disparaged and police especially receive bad training. Through human history a rod or club has been a staple defense tool (That’s what 5,000 to 10,000 years of proof). So I take issue with saying a baton categorically is an ineffective tool. I would be more likely to say that modern first world humans have lost defensive viability due to just a few generations of a soft environment.

The most beautiful take down I ever saw was with a baton on a guy running from a fight. The cop just took a couple of steps and popped the fleeing guy in the back of the leg. He went down like a sack of bricks. Onlookers gave a collective gasp and responded with a polite golf clap. It was expert work.
Hol' up... your telling me that beating the flying f*ck out of someone with a two foot metal *rod* is LESS effective than poke in the tummy...I don't know who these people think they're fighting, but ain't nobody tanking a hit to the noggin with one of these👀
People take a hit to the head over and over again and don’t flinch. I’ve seen it. Many cops have seen it. If you thrust through the solar plexus or lower, you will put someone on the ground. If the thrust in through the face they will fly backwards. If the thrust goes through the windpipe then they most likely won’t survive. Cops used to carry straight batons and were very effective with thrusts. Now most cops won’t even pull the expandable baton out of its holster because it is so ineffective and bad optics.
An umbrella - including an expandable one - would work for most of these techniques, even though most aren't very sturdy. And isn't illegal. You carry it in case of rain, but if attacked use what you have.
An umbrella isn't aero dynamic and won't hit as hard obviously because of the huge flaps on it. And you wouldn't carry an umbrella around everywhere. Like in the summer when it's hot and sunny out, you'll look stupid. You can conceal an expandable baton but not an umbrella
It is why I like a tactical flashlight - you can flash it into the eyes of the bad guy (attacker). If he is drunk or high, I think that would be effective on the eyes - shining him with it, and you can also strike with it too. Also it is much harder to block it or take it away. Also, flashlights are legal everywhere and you can even take it into a bar.
I have carried one for years at night on walks to protect myself from dogs. I need it once or twice a year. I have never had to hit a dog. But I expect if you hit a person on the hands, elbows or knees hard enough they are gonna stop long enough to hit them again and run.
I’d think an umbrella would be more effective in warding off a dog. Just pop the thing open between you and the dog and I don’t think the dog is gonna know it’s just fabric.
@sdr24 I would say ..if u are living in such a place which have some dogs ...the best way to protect yourself ... to have a umbrella and if it won't work ...have a baton in the other hand 😅
I respectfully disagree with you. Striking the hand, wrist or forearm will quickly disable a knife attack. But, like you showed, if an unarmed perp closes the distance, then, a thrust with acceleration(force), in the configuration that you hold it, will be quite effective. IMO, it is not A or B. he answer is C, both A and B, depending on the relative distance and whether or not the perp has a blade or club already drawn.
This was a great one Matt. I have actually never used these batons for any techniques and I think I may have only had one in my hands perhaps one or two times. So, I sort of forgot about these, but I'm interested in these again now. Thanks for the great material as always!
I like how you can give your opinion without having to run down other MA instructors. There are a lot of big egos in the MA world and self-defense world and it is nice to see someone say hey, I am not necessarily right, but take a look and decide for yourself.
In Taiwan, expandable batons and daggers are both illegal, but you can still own and carry them as long as you don't take it out in the public on normal occasions (It's not illegal if you don't get caught lol). Also regarding the baton you use in the video it's probably made by a company named "EST", it's a Taiwan based brand making expandable batons and other equipments for LE personnel and is known for the bombproof quality of their batons.
As someone who used this tool for 15 years, I can say that although I have never hit anyone with it, I can only imagine its damaging potential. The pounds per square inch delivered by a 6'2, 280 pound male like myself would be absolutely devastating. My partners cant even hold the bag when I hit it. The force generated is intense..... Couldnt see anyone taking a hit from it, its literally shattering whatever it hits.. Moreover, the return strike is simply a clearing strike, it is not designed to damage your assailant, its just a "Reload". Even the cross check is devastating and designed to knock the air out of your opponent. In a trained hand, I am certain it will be effective. However, I am not a fan of OC spray.
Why would you want to go to contact with someone if you are using a baton ? if you have a boxer in front of you , he will knock you out as soon as you are at his arm's reach. Baton is used to avoid someone coming too close to you, You do fast swings with the baton at your torso height, so the guy who want to hurt you gonna have his hands broken in a matter of seconds
Maybe. But he could also close the distance quickly with a good guard and you opportunity to execute a slashing strike is now gone. Better know how to fight close contact.
Batons are excellent weapons. In my experience, often times they are cast in a negative light because they misunderstood and not used correctly. Many people do not realize that batons are a highly technical weapon that requires a lot of training to master. The issue with batons arrises when they are used by individuals who have not mastered its technicalities, resulting in inefficient use or overuse of force. If this weapon is understood and used correctly, it is highly diverse in its applications and abilities to control or end a wide variety of altercations.
Community Service Officer in Sweden here. I carry an expandable baton on my duty belt, but I also carry the old-school Swedish police baton made of reinforced rubber with a massive steel core. That baby packs a serious punch they say; I have never had to hit anyone with it, because every time I have had to draw the baton on someone, they have always become very compliant when they see that thing.
This is a great self defense weapon against the average attacking person or animals! It was rare in my 32 LEO career I encountered a person high on pcp or related drugs in 2023 every self defense tool is necessary
Finally someone who is looking at this from a ordinary person's perspective... we don't have guns and few other tools to defend us with ... and I bet my life this expendable baton is a 300% more efficient against knife then bare hands ...and I guess adrenaline won't keep that knife in your hand if u struck the hand with steel ... so even if his idea of drugs or high adrenaline works ...this thing hits much harder then fist ... in context of ordinary person ..this thing gives u really good chance to survive a knife attack .. or a dog as u mentioned . So this video's perspective is flawed from the start .90% of all civilians are not trained ...and even those who took self defense classes ..I bet they would loose against knife fight 9 times out of 10 . With baton ...our chances are much much higher to survive such attack.
It is effective but not as effective as a traditional straight baton. Because of the weight the diameter of the stick he will. Also the way it closes is problematic
Hey Matt. One last comment/quote. “One can lead a horse to water, but can't make them drink”. And, self defense is a choice, not a requirement or law in any state.✌️
Matt, so are you trying to say that Kali strikes don't work either??? Or, do you just mean that most expandable batons available to the public are pieces of crap? If the strikes are done properly, to the correct part of the anatomy, they do work.
No. I agree that Kali strikes are good and useful. I see most video experts that say the expandable baton is useless only focus on the Kali strikes. I feel like thrusts and two handed strikes are most effective at stopping the threat when Kali style strikes don’t work against someone who isn’t feeling them for some reason.
That sounds like you're saying there's nothing wrong with the weapon itself (other than legality and quality issues), just that it's usually used amateurishly. I'd still prefer a solid cane right in my hand already, though.
@@stevenscott2136 For whatever it's worth, I also prefer a heavy, dense wooden baston, but only because I've trained in Kali and am more comfortable with the wood. The balance is a little different with the expandable baton. However, the police-issue quality expandable batons hit like a solid piece of steel. Would you rather get hit with a solid piece of wood, or a solid piece of steel? There definitely is a difference.
The police that ride bicycles use the metal expandable baton. But officers who do car patrols carry the 26" wood baton. Police are not taught to swing at the head. But if you raise your arm to swing, high , it looks bad on camera. The order of use of force is: verbal control, physical force, pepper spray, carotid restraint, baton, and deadly force depending on your department policies. So using the baton must be justified. That's why the police choose not to use it.
Right! With all this info, we can deduce that if you're in a situation where you can use a baton without legal ramifications, you'd also be able to use a firearm or any other weapon because your life would have to be in immediate danger. I worry about people getting killed by preparing with one of these. I myself have a wooden hickory tire knocker for a "baton" situation. I feel it has a lot more authority, and as you say, the police still carry them; they only took the expandable batons on for less lethality since the wooden ones are more likely to break bone and crack skulls. I feel the expandable batons are redundant and pointless. They are for security guards and cops who need to control a suspect during a resistant arrest. They're used for pain compliance, not saving your life in self-defense. Speaking from experience as a security guard, for what it's worth, as they trained me in batons hence where a lot of this theory comes from. They taught us to avoid the head and joints, like you said the police do, and go for muscle groups ie. the thighs, biceps, etc. in order to control someone trying to resist.
Johnny Utah, It's interesting what you're saying about looking bad on camera. I had a talk with Israeli border guard( which is type of police, that often are used as riot control on border areas), and he said that originally they were swinging their batons high, but at some point pro palestianian photographers caught some border guard on camera at what appears "swings" at rioter head. In reality the border guard were using his baton to scratch his back, funny, but with all the riot gear there were wearing and standing at sun, which cause a lot of discomfort and sweat quickly starts to run across the body, including the back. I figured it's worth sharing that story because it describes the same thing in different countries(how looking bad on camera can be interpreted in the wrong way). In Israel, collapsable baton is also illegal by the way.
I totally agree, how law enforcement and private security do not train enough. I teach security courses in Australia. In our courses we are to direct our methods of strikings to fleshy parts of the body. Basically no head shots or bone strikes. I have seen with my personal eyes and experiences that fleshy parts strikes doesn't always immobilise or stop the offender. In Australia you must be either a member of police or a licensed security officer.
Excellent tactics for those of us veterans who have been trained with bayonet tactics. Mostly, parry, parry, thrust. Works with any baton like device, flashlight, cane, whatever. I really like having the ability to parry blows with a device rather than my forearms.
Matt I practice a style that I had to teach myself out of a book . I bought the book in 82’ from the widow of a us navy seal . I bought 8 martial arts books from over a period of two months , as we were working on the same boat. The book is long but weak on the principle technique. It’s written by an LAPD officer and Takayuki Kubota of Kubotan fame . It was developed by him for the LAPD. It fell into disuse , I’m not sure when , because I can’t find any info on that . The main complaints about it were that it was too lethal , and too complicated it seems . Good martial arts footwork is necessary, but isn’t that the case with any weapon ? And what baton/ nightstick made from hard wood isn’t lethal ? It’s a very Japanese take on the nightstick , and is designed to swing a heavy stick so you don’t do soft tissue damage to yourself. The book is by Paul F Macaul and Takayuki Kubota , and is still being sold
I’ve seen the book. Good stuff. The authorities seem to take away all the tools from police and only leave them with the most lethal option. Seems wrong headed to me.
I saw three policemen trying to subdue a PCP crazed, 280 lbs., 6'2" tall, bearded weirdo with their collapsible batons. I was a college kid who delivered newspapers from 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM. The fight took place on Piedmont Ave at around 3:30 AM. Mr. PCP was juiced and moved like he was under the control of mind altering, pain numbing, strength enhancing drugs. I watched for about 10 minutes & then left. The officers beat this guy like the LAPD beat Rodney King, but it had zero effect. PCP-Man threw them around like rag dolls. PCP-Man seemed to feel no pain and he had superhuman strength. PCP-Man was right out of a Marvel Comic Book. Three police officers were losing their battle with the PCP-Hulk. I couldn't help, but I admired them for not shooting the guy. For me, that night taught me why officers who want to go home after their shift use their guns. Moreover, I also thought that a 9mm wouldn't have dropped the Hulk. It would have taken a .45 cal. with a combat load to do that. I guess that's why policemen empty their weapons into a suspect who is resisting arrest, right? The desire to go home to their families after work is why some police shot some arrest resisters into Swiss Cheese.
The original "patrol" club, at least for the U.S. Army was designed, we were taught, to break before cracking a human skull. I still have the one I carried. One thing you had to watch as an MP leader was young MP's drilling a hole down the length and pouring in lead. If not, they were notorious for carrying 8 D Cell flashlights. Keep in mind we were "policing" military equipment, they did not want us to permanently damage assets (troops). The Army training (with the old club) revolved around carries & strikes at the joints (where they hinge). We all would have liked the PR-24, but the Army (at the time) would not authorize it because it potentially has 2 offensives strikes. I have an "ASP" as a less than lethal option it's legal with a CCW in PA. Just a quick note the "riot baton" was much longer and not designed to break when doing "the Stomp and Drag." (Another MP mission (and National Guard)).
Matt, can you demonstrate techniques using a yawara stick in the future? I think the technique of the metal baton when collapsed would be the same. (You showed us some today.) All these weapons would be illegal to use. ( If it's life or death, you will have to use it anyway.)
They teach what they think is best. Everything has evolved since the invention of cameras everywhere. We now see what does and doesn’t work. Not every instructor has the capacity to change for many different reasons. Look at how Brazilian jujitsu changed fighting. For years we thought we could beat anyone as long as we had the best punches and kicks. Now if you don’t know how to handle yourself on the ground, you are in great danger of running into a BJJ student with even just a little training, who can dump you on your head and take away most of your kicks and punches.
Hi man I need help with my baton… when I flick out with force the rod between the end of the baton and the grip of the baton comes loose when hit with little force it goes in by itself…. (Grip side)
During my walks I carry an expandable baton, knife, stun gun, bear spray, and a TASER. Too many dogs around where I walk, and I suppose good against psycho humans as well.

I carry a walking cane or walking stick for self defense. I also train to fight with knees and elbows. You can use the expandable baton for self defense. I just recommend uses it more to thrust and with two hands instead of just with slashing motions.
@@pasquinilli I think that a cane or walking stick is a great idea especially if you are older. Maybe not so cool if you are 20, but 55+ very cool. So i just cut off a 10 in piece of re=bar which I keep in my center console. It will break my window if I am trapped in my car or break you face if you attack me,cost nothing & i will just throw it away if need be. It can be used to kill an attacker! I believe what you have there is a 27in which I believe is the legal limit for one of these unless you're in law enforcement and you can get a 3-foot one or even longer I bought mine at the Army Surplus / camping store here in Portland
Legal in Texas. Taught in the Corps and I have used them and for me they have worked. Bounced in many bars and used against drunk and high people. They pull knives grab bottles or come at you in a group. Struck hands, elbows, knees with the tip. Shove with it like a hockey stick and if they get in close punch with it in your hand. That close you throw elbows anyway. You still have your knees and feet also. People get fixated on what they are holding in their hand. Raise it for a swing and when they throw their hands up kick them in the knee and when they drop those hands drop the baton on the collar bone.
@@pasquinilli wow thanks for replying! You are the first UA-camr that has ever responded back to me. I was already subscribed and enjoyed the cane and walking stick videos. Nunchuks and escrima videos. I have studied many martial Arts but there are none for Filipino martial arts in my area.
An expandable baton is easier to conceal, wherever you have a legal right to carry one, and for the people stuck in other more restricted areas, a piece of broomstick cut to the size covering the distance between the tip of your middle finger and the tip of your elbow, covered with some hockey or electric tape, might be another suitable option.
Matt; I am considering getting a PR-24 Baton with the side handle grip I am in NYS and I want to be sure it is legal for self defense in NYS for me to own & carry one.
Sorry. Weed is legal. Criminal aliens beating cops is legal. Protecting yourself with the pr24 is not legal if you are a law abiding citizen. Maybe if you were a criminal alien from Venezuela or San Salvador, maybe…
I’ve got a couple of them. I’m in a wheelchair and it’s a more non-lethal option before a knife or gun. I think it is legal for self defense but I need to check again. I know brass knuckles are now legal here in Montana.
Get a proper expandable baton instead. Even if its not made of chinesium thats a notoriously ineffective and unreliable design from the 70's. It has never been effective for anything but causing pain and immediatly stops being effective when someone doesnt respond to pain. A proper expandable baton has significantly more mass to it and doesnt collapse on its user. Yes, effective and reliable batons DO exist but they are several hundred dollars. "Police quality" basically just means its the cheapest they could get away with.
How can a baton be classified as a "deadly weapon" and simultaneously "trash" or ineffective? Your continuous touting of using the butt end to strike ignores one basic fact: you have to be in really close to deliver a strike like that. What do you think your opponent is doing when you're in that close? The "billy club" strike on the head and shoulders seems to be all even trained "professionals" know how to do. As you've stated: not very effective. On the other hand, a quick "stick fighting" strike to the wrist/forearm or knee will disarm or disable an opponent very quickly - nobody fights very well after you take out a knee, regardless of how much adrenaline or drugs they have in their system. This technique was taught by some military schools in the 50's using a stick or even a rolled up magazine. If it was effective with either of these two "weapons," imagine how effective it is delivered with a steel rod. As THE MARTIAL ARTS CHANNEL commented below: . . . if you have a baton in your hand with which you could strike that knife away, or break his knee cap, then you better use it as such."
Say there’s an intruder, what’s the best then? Stomach & neck w/ baton, head? How hard do you use on the skull to drop the person but to avoid a deadly blow ?
This concludes the BS portion of our program ! Jabs with a friction baton that can collapse are ridiculous. Keep your distance and use repeated power strikes to make the assailant keep his distance. To control a person, hit only "green areas". If you are under attack, strike whatever you can reach if need be. If the assailant has a knife, try to hit the knife hand or arm if reachable. Fight as if you were boxing, employing your empty hand when necessary. Get a baton of high quality or risk having your cheap one fall to pieces ( literally). Get one with a power safety tip. Strike with the tip, not the small section. Strike full force. Forget about the silly two-hand blocks and pokes taught in training. If you can't deploy the baton, strike with the closed baton. Consider an Auto-Lock model so it won't collapse. Note : In untrained hands, a baton is legally considered a deadly weapon.
I feel like batons have always existed in this weird middle ground between lethal and non lethal, where u don’t necessarily want to shoot him but tazers and pepper spray aren’t enough. I believe that’s it’s downfall because I can’t really imagine the situation where this is the best option. Atleast not today when other non lethal weapons have gotten so good. 50 years ago though I think batons were probably the best way to go
I think hitting the knees, the skull or other nerve bundles should stop an attacker. Im not an expert but i think that a street fight won't last that long for me to hold it with both hands. Great video tho
You can actually use it for a few non-combat things. Irrespective of it being pushed of a glass breaker "wink-wink, nudge-nudge", it still can break glass.

Yes! Excellent advice!
They do sell heavy duty umbrellas
made for striking. But it's heavy to carry around.
I have a "Olight" flashlight it's almost blinding when shined in the eyes.
A wise man once told me...the expandable baton is best deployed as a reflex tool.
Thanks Justin.
I found this video extremely informative. Thank you for the lesson.
Thank you!
I like how you can give your opinion without having to run down other MA instructors. There are a lot of big egos in the MA world and self-defense world and it is nice to see someone say hey, I am not necessarily right, but take a look and decide for yourself.
Illegal in Canada includes batons, pepper spray, tasers, nunchucks, throwing stars, switch blades, etc..
Taiwan manufactures some of the best gear in the world. Not like the cheap knockoff fakes made in communist china !
The same with Vietnam, and I’m about to have one delivered to me tomorrow
Great info. Thanks!
Great breakdown! Great points too! Thank you!
Any idea of who manufactured your old school baton?
Nothing is legal for self defence in Australia. Expandable batons are not legal. Some places even forbid kubotan that's blunt.
I love the hit from the shoulder advice.
Great discussion. :-)
Thanks for the info!,will definitely train your techniques.
Is this baton legal in Georgia?
I don’t know but I doubt it.
What is the ideal length to get...anywhere from 16" to 36"....?
Longer is better. At least 28”
Ironically, they are legal in New York, however you can't carry them openly.
How to know the difference good baton and trash baton ?
Look for name brand like Manodnock or ASP or Smith and Wesson. If it comes from China, it’s trash.
Awesome tactics! I totally agree with you!
I'm a little confused. Wouldn't this weapon be effective with close body swings in the same way you demonstrate with normal stick defence?
It is effective but not as effective as a traditional straight baton. Because of the weight the diameter of the stick he will. Also the way it closes is problematic
@@pasquinilli That makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up.
I commend you for making this video. This is very educational and will save a lot of people a lot of trouble
Thank you!
How to fix an expandable baton that doesn't close completely.
I would like to see you demonstrate using a Alpine multifunctional telescopic stick.. That's the one I have, it's kinda heavy and kind of long.
I would love to do that. Where did you get yours?
Hey Matt. One last comment/quote. “One can lead a horse to water, but can't make them drink”. And, self defense is a choice, not a requirement or law in any state.✌️
Good video Matt , your right 👍
Thank you Nigel!
Arizona 100% legal to carry, conceal and use as a self defense tool for civilian use.
I have a 5 cell D cell MagLite and it has saved me more then once when I was a Deputy Constable.
Amen! Thank you!
Please do an updated video. They have updated laws all across America and most states are now legal.
Will do. Thanks
Excellent video, thank you 👍
Matt I practice a style that I had to teach myself out of a book .
Seems wrong headed to me.
could I not use my self defense cane in this manner? I have a 42 inch cane ???
Matt love your videos. Very informative 👏
Thanks Jose!!
Your welcome and thank you 👍
What if they have a knive. Strike the hand, not thrust with both hands
What if you miss the hand?
@@pasquinilli try again.
I never thought of using the extendable baton the way police would use their riot sticks! It makes a lot of sense!
(You showed us some today.)
All these weapons would be illegal to use. ( If it's life or death, you will have to use it anyway.)
Yes! Will do!
Me, not as effective as a straight stick, collapses when thrust, and yes illegal in NY
Definately not trash !!!
It was called a night stick. It should be a defense tool. If it can save you from a fist to your face… your choice😊 very effective in preserving you.
It’s a good stick!
Why does ASP teach striking techniques jf they are ineffective?
(Grip side)
Maine = yes
Also, no one markets them as tire thumpers anymore. They're hiking sticks now.
Oh that’s funnier. Thanks!
Doh! Never thought of thrusting motion ✅
It’s often overlooked! Thanks!
I don't see this working against a knife as you have to get close where you can be stabbed.
Better than using your hand.
I first saw this advertised in the 70s in magazines. The brand was "The Cobra".
You can carry one in North Carolina but you can't carry it concealed unless you are on your own property.
During my walks I carry an expandable baton, knife, stun gun, bear spray, and a TASER.
Too many dogs around where I walk, and I suppose good against psycho humans as well.
That’s a well stocked arsenal. Be safe!
If that one is high quality what brand and model is it?
Are they legal in Pennsylvania?
Yes. Only California and Massachusetts, two of the least free states, have a ban against them.
HI Sensei Matt have a question for you I am now an asssistant instructor is your technique excluding we learned the mantis block to intercept double hook I think if the baton is supposed to be an armed version are those wide swing not going to be intercepted I mean my instructor said something like if you made wide hook it's going to be intercepeted? THOUGHTS PLEASE THANK YOU
what model do you recommend then for self defense when walking into questionable areas and for safety then?
I carry a walking cane or walking stick for self defense. I also train to fight with knees and elbows. You can use the expandable baton for self defense. I just recommend uses it more to thrust and with two hands instead of just with slashing motions.
@@pasquinilli I think that a cane or walking stick is a great idea especially if you are older. Maybe not so cool if you are 20, but 55+ very cool. Hate to ruin the discussion but i carry in my car a very cheap & effective weapon, useful in many ways. I work in the construction industry. So i just cut off a 10 in piece of re=bar which I keep in my center console. It will break my window if I am trapped in my car or break you face if you attack me,cost nothing & i will just throw it away if need be. It can be used to kill an attacker! Also do NOT carry a knife carry a screwdriver. In the old days gangsters used to use icepicks to kill people. Just buy a screwdriver at least with a shaft of 6in long does not matter which type of tip. Stick it in your back pocket & say that you were fixing your computer and forgot to leave it at work..Can be used to kill anybody! Nasty!
Hi Matt. What do you think of the Byrna pepper spray gun?
Huge fan. I have my clients get this one amzn.to/3zcAzDb
In Germany only Law Enforcement Officers may have this, but they may have this just only if they have become it from the department which they are working for and only while they`re doing their job time.
It's not a trash ...I rather have it than nothing at all ;) 😉 ..it can neutralize a person who wants to hurt you if you know how to use it right and not to kill ...
Good point!
In Tennessee there is no law against owning one but you have to take a class to carry it
That seems like a good idea. Training is always a good idea!
Nothing is legal anymore
That does seem to be true
I’m armed security and I carry a baton. Very good information, thanks! I recently got myself a taser so I can’t see myself pulling the baton. I’m in Tennessee and it’s legal with certification in my state, but I agree…not the most effective tool on my duty belt.
Thanks for sharing your perspective!
I'm unarmed Security I carry "Sabre" pepper spray. Thinking about getting this baton.
Taser brand though isn't always effective I have seen them fail. A baton or pepper spray are better less lethal in my opinion. I can carry a taser but for the price etc not worth it in my opinion
Excellent points and advise! Semper Fidelis!
@@pasquinilli always faithful.
In the uk these come under the same charge as a firearm,, I still rather carry one of these to defend myself against a machete rather than a knife
It Is Good And Awesome To Carry A Extended Baton For Self Defense.
Thank you for your comments. I would still rather thrust than do what the martial arts channel suggests.
They used to be illegal in Hawaii but recently got legalized Along with balisongs and OTF’s
Wow. That’s shocking but great! Thanks!
@@pasquinilli isn’t it wonderful! However, yes I do agree it is shocking haha

Yes! Soon cars won’t even have a radio.
Say there’s an intruder, what’s the best then? Stomach & neck w/ baton, head? How hard do you use on the skull to drop the person but to avoid a deadly blow ?
I’ll make you a video on that this morning Randy.
@@pasquinilli really? Thank you!
I hope I never have to use it, but I’m worried I’ll accidentally use it too hard. Guess it depends on the situation.
Well with the auto lock, you have to jab. All that green area stuff will get you hurt
50 years ago though I think batons were probably the best way to go
Legal to carry in Virginia! Police cannot be around everywhere you go to protect you, protect yourself at all times
Is it legal in PA and/or FL?
I think hitting the knees, the skull or other nerve bundles should stop an attacker. Im not an expert but i think that a street fight won't last that long for me to hold it with both hands. Great video tho
Thank you. Anything is better than nothing. Go with your gut!
Is it legal with a CCW permit?
I think the ccw only covers a hand gun. I might be wrong though. I will research for you.
You can actually use it for a few non-combat things. Irrespective of it being pushed of a glass breaker "wink-wink, nudge-nudge", it still can break glass.
In the state of Texas it is illegal to have one. It is a felony to have one.
No they passed a law in 2017 batons switchblades ,brass knuckles, Bowie knives, swords, butterfly knives, machetes, and trench knives are all legal now.
