I have one of these beauties, and I can say with some irresponsible swinging while learning how to wield said beauty, I would not want to get hit with this piece at full swing, it hurts a lot, but is also comfortable while in the tube, highly recommend this for daily carry
I have been experimenting with the length of a DIY cablewhip. For some reason I decided to go from a tap to a thwap right on my kneecap….luckily it didn’t do any permanent damage, but the pain shocked me to my soul 😅
I remember seeing Lynn at the Cold Steel parking lot sales, walking the line of people waiting to get in, shaking hands, having conversation, he is a really nice guy who loved his company and his customers. The other thing that really impressed me about Lynn is that he NEVER advocated using a knife to slash someones face, he always taught people to exert enough pain to get your attacker to stop trying to hurt you, and for you to have enough time to retreat. The part about slashing someones face, I heard him say this, you never want to scar someone for life like that because even though they are doing something bad now, you don't want to impose something like that on them forever. They could change their ways in the future, and you don't want to leave them with a scar like that. Such a good hearted guy. I don't know why he sold the company, its never been revealed, but I hope the best for Lynn and hope he is doing well and enjoying life.

I'll stick with my CS City Stick. In the UK (available here) this would be considered a concealed weapon, akin to a swordstick. That could lead to all sorts of legal unpleasantness, whereas the City Stick is just a very robust walking cane

I made a similar item. Bought a Carbon fiber golf club from a charity shop for £5. Removed the handle, took a walking stick handle I already had, and epoxied a 10mm thick steel cable into it. Shoved a rubber ferrule on the end of the stick, and the cable fits nicely inside the carbon fiber shaft. I covered the join between the stick and handle with a short section of inner tube. I think I'll steal the idea of the O rings and use them instead.

I've got a decent variety of folders and fixed blades from a variety of makers, and reflected on which few would be with me, while the rest were left behind during SHTF times.... Cold Steel blades and a few customs would be my choices.
I have the 'Fast Strike', which is a scaled down version of this whip, about 20 inches. It is not something that is in a cane, but does the same hurting only on a smaller scale.
OG Lin, ad 2 accessories, a pepper spray, in the handle with 2 replaceable canisters, and an option to add an arrow head to the tip of whip. To do some real slashing damage. I built a whip like that myself, but I used a lug at the end, frayed the tip open, and let the point soak in salt water for a week, giving me the rusted wire tip that cuts and infects all the way to the bank. Yes if adrenaline pumps, they still attack, that's why I recommend the pepper spray and slash point. That way, you incapacitate the person. They have a bloody sticky wound.
A 16" rubber hose filled with lead shot. Screw in a threaded hex bolt , leave 1 end sticking out. Good striking on bsck hand. Innocent looking, just lays under my seat.

Then just get a baton and carry it on your belt. Those a shorter overall. But I think a ling one like this one give you distance if you take it and is scary to an assailant who didn't quite get tagged and may not want to sep into that buzz saw flailing back and form at angles, etc.

Man I need to get one. I’ve been looking the last few hours for a self defense cane. I just had a spinal injury and use a cane now. What are you supposed to with the pole if a situation happens all of a sudden? Do you keep the pole in one hand and whip in the other? So an attacker/s don’t take your pole and use it against you.
@@HarryManback46and2 I would say no you can't try to take it on a plane but they'll try to open it as they have taken knives hidden in canes before, and they'll confiscate it. For trips use any actually cane no problem, it's allowed, and for being home this one could work, if it fits properly, within an inch, I'd say, of your ideal cane length.
Is this legal for sale and use in the state of California? I've always wanted one of your sword canes but those are illegal here. The irony is that I carry the Espada XL everyday in California and it's perfectly legal and I would argue that it is significantly more deadly than a sword cane or a baton or butterfly/automatic knife. I love the XL. I also have a large. The large is more practical but the XL is far more intimidating and provides more reach. I've carried both knives for several years and I really think the perfect carry Espada would be right in the middle with a 6 1/2'' blade. It would retain some of the practical size of the Large while giving a little extra reach.
With utmost respect, the quality of Cold Steel products and the conscientiousness of Lynn Thompson is NOT in question. I’m a huge fan of CS and have nothing but love and admiration for Lynn Thompson. Tactically though, if this product already gives you a sturdy metal cane, why would you confront an attacker with a less capable weapon? And what makes you think you’ll have the time to deploy it? The primary advantage of a cane is that it’s always deployed and it’s legal everywhere. The whip makes this illegal to carry in most places.
I admit, I tried making something similar after finding a 'similar style' item that was smaller. Being an actual cane user for my handicap, I couldn't see carrying both a cane and a whip in my shorts. You've really got to be careful when over-swinging the "whip" part... ask me how I know. 😁🥴😵 I'd definitely love getting my hands on one of these at Cold Steel. Christmas is tomorrow and my birthday is a couple weeks away! 😂

Does the cane rattle when used as a cane?
Yes, it rattles inside the cane ( tube ). I am hoping they will make a new version with thicker metal that will hide the cable noises and be strong enough to use as a club.
Man I need to get one. I’ve been looking the last few hours for a self defense cane. I just had a spinal injury and use a cane now. What are you supposed to with the pole if a situation happens all of a sudden? Do you keep the pole in one hand and whip in the other? So an attacker/s don’t take your pole and use it against you.
Also can these be taken on planes?
@@HarryManback46and2 I would say no you can't try to take it on a plane but they'll try to open it as they have taken knives hidden in canes before, and they'll confiscate it. For trips use any actually cane no problem, it's allowed, and for being home this one could work, if it fits properly, within an inch, I'd say, of your ideal cane length.

Is this legal for sale and use in the state of California?
I've always wanted one of your sword canes but those are illegal here. The irony is that I carry the Espada XL everyday in California and it's perfectly legal and I would argue that it is significantly more deadly than a sword cane or a baton or butterfly/automatic knife. I love the XL. I also have a large. The large is more practical but the XL is far more intimidating and provides more reach. I've carried both knives for several years and I really think the perfect carry Espada would be right in the middle with a 6 1/2'' blade. It would retain some of the practical size of the Large while giving a little extra reach.
Try one of their ABS canes without hidden weapons. They are indestructible and potent.

With utmost respect, the quality of Cold Steel products and the conscientiousness of Lynn Thompson is NOT in question. I’m a huge fan of CS and have nothing but love and admiration for Lynn Thompson. Tactically though, if this product already gives you a sturdy metal cane, why would you confront an attacker with a less capable weapon? And what makes you think you’ll have the time to deploy it? The primary advantage of a cane is that it’s always deployed and it’s legal everywhere. The whip makes this illegal to carry in most places.
It's legal in California. Cane swords may be illegal in the state, but not cane whips.
I admit, I tried making something similar after finding a 'similar style' item that was smaller. Being an actual cane user for my handicap, I couldn't see carrying both a cane and a whip in my shorts. You've really got to be careful when over-swinging the "whip" part... ask me how I know. 😁🥴😵 I'd definitely love getting my hands on one of these at Cold Steel. Christmas is tomorrow and my birthday is a couple weeks away! 😂
