I’ve seen the movie at a screening at Graceland and it was brilliant. The cast and the Presley family were there and shared their complete and total approval of the biopic. They were all in agreement that Austin Butler embodied Elvis. His best friend, Jerry Schilling, agreed. Jerry was a big part of the narrative. Tom Hanks was superb as the diabolical Tom Parker. If you’re not an Elvis fan, this movie will convert you. If you’re an Elvis fan, you’ll be thankful to Baz and Austin for honoring Elvis’ legacy. I was privileged to have seen Elvis perform numerous times.

People like myself who were alive during that time, will NEVER forget him. Those who were born AFTER he died, never knew him. Maybe now those who were born AFTER him will see him and carry on the torch to know him and the others Little Richard, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, Chuck Berry and so many others. “You live only as long as the last person who remembers you”.

I feel like he’s being talked about more than ever! My son sometimes gets depressed about his generation, and says he wishes he was born earlier. I always said the same myself. But I’ve been telling him how reaction channels have brought about a kind of Renaissance period for Elvis, Queen, etc. These and the movies make me happy for that reason! Getting the word out!

Imagine 3 longs years of your life isolated in a foreign country totally immersed in the life of Elvis, reading every book ever written about Elvis, watching every video clip every still photos ever taken of Elvis, mimicking, imitating, understanding, pondering, meditating, dreaming... That's what Austin Butler did to learn the role he was entrusted. It's not the appearance but the essence, the nuances, the soul of Elvis that he captured. Priscilla told Baz and Austin after the private preview she was given, Elvis would have told Austin, Hot damn you are me.

Colonel kept Elvis from doing world tours and serious movies. But his greatest crime against the King was his requirement that songwriters surrender half their royalties in order for Elvis to do one of their songs. This kept Elvis from getting great songs to record. The greatest vocalist on earth had to pick thru B list scraps to find material to record. Insanity.

The Colonel's greatest crime was when he convinced Elvis to sell his pre 70s catalog, which were ALL of his hits, to RCA for a measly $4 million, which the Col took a half. Today that catalog would be worth $400 million according to some.

The world came to see Elvis. In some concerts they were mostly foreign fans. The word moaned and anguished while he was in the army. Global journalists followed his every move they could in the army. He had thousands worldwide fan clubs. His popularity is such worldwide that his recording company Sony reports he has sold six billion recordings worldwide. This far outdistances any other entertainet. The UK voted Elvis as the greatest person contribution the US had that impacted the world. So true.

I hope that the movie gives more insight about why it was that the Colonel had such power over Elvis. Only in very rare moments he stood up against his manager, why? Even later, when he was a grown man, he let his manager make almost all the decisions and Elvis himself was not taking care of business. It is easy to blame the Colonel for everything, but in the end it was Elvis himself who was responsible for his own career and lifestyle.

I just watched this movie. I loved how the really examined Elvis roots and how a lot of his influence came from black artists. But they also left it up to the viewer to decide how they felt about that, they didn't spoon feed you a narrative about it when you watch the film. I thought it was brilliantly done, if a bit long. They really covered his story well.

I’m Australian (like Baz) and asked my 77 year old mother if she wanted to see this movie. She told me she was never an Elvis fan as a teenager. Admittedly, her taste in music was quite ‘square’ to use a word from back then! My late father, however, loved rockabilly, so I grew up listening to Elvis’ 50s music (but not his 60s stuff, dad had moved on to the Beatles by his 20s). I was 6 or 7 years old when he died, I vaguely remember a group of female neighbours outside their houses crying and over at our house to tell my father the news.
Check out black UK singer-songwriter, Yola. She’s a guitarist too and she’s playing Sister Rosetta Tharpe in this film. I’m a fan of her music, she’s very talented!

From my limited research, Elvis burst onto the scene of music in around 1955. He wasn't just music, he with Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Little Richard and many others built the foundations of Rock and Roll. Elvis, his influences were a mash up of church, blues and many genres which were derived from a rich Black culture. In addition, he wore cool clothes, had great hair, and marched to the beat of a different drum. He was a one-man multi-level marketing company campaign dream come true. Music, live shows, TV, movies, records what part of entertainment didn't he impact? He was easy on the eyes and upon first viewings appeared to be rather polite, humble and slightly innocent young man visiting the big city for the first time- referring to the Ed Sullivan show appearance. I love Elvis. Other artist made Rock and Roll rebellious, and high energy but he made it dangerous and sexy at the same time. Thanks for sharing this trailer and your reaction. Consider looking at the Elvis youtube video of him singing with Frank Sinatra. So great!

I’ve been an Elvis fan for 60 years I fell in love with Elvis when I was five years old he was my true American hero, and now at the age of 65 he remains just that. I had the honor of seeing Elvis eight times live in concert sleeping in the street in a sleeping bag for four days and nights to buy tickets because everything was cash And you had to wait on the long lines. I would’ve waited a lifetime when Elvis Presley walked on stage it was like the parting of the Red Sea of biblical proportions has never been like it before, and never anything like it since I hope his will be the last voice I hear when my time comes God bless you young man and thank you for sharing Elvis videos.

Dude, your appraisal of that POS Col. T. Parker is spot on! I think it’s going to be a great movie about conquest and tragedy. Such a tragic life. Parker ran him into the ground. Never got him the help he needed. He was taken from all of us way too soon. In fact, had Elvis survived, I think he would have brought the races in our country even more closer together. He was a smart man who passed himself off as a ‘good ‘Ol boy’. But, he was capable of deep thought and compassion. A racist doesn’t randomly stop and buy a black lady a Cadillac of her choice, but Elvis did. An American success story and tragedy all in one.

    Excellent Presentation and Amazing Trailer.
Elvis Second to None.. he never performed in England yet had 22 number one songs more than the Beatles…Elvis going on tour in Great Britain would be just like the Beatles coming to the USA 🇺🇸 maybe even surpassing that. 🎤 Thanks for the preview 👍

If you go back then as a young person, can only listen to your favourite songs by sneaking off to listen to what your parents don't. Then it was segregation time, but then along came this sound on the Radio and the youths were hooked. If you are a lover of music with different genre then this Sir Elvis was the man who put his nose up at The Establishment and did whatever he wanted with music, he said there is a room for everybody in the music world. All musicians from around the world when can afford it went to the states to see Elvis. No matter what the haters say about Elvis and the untruths they believed in, Elvis has stood the tests of times. He will never be forgotten. I hope like Romeo and Juliet, Great Gatsby, that Baz has done justice to Elvis memory. If he doesn't then OMG the fans will be in a war path lols

He is gorgeous dreamy cute hot sooo so sexy. I'm in love with him and the movie. Give Austin Butler the OSCAR.

I've seen your Elvis interviews and I think you might want to check out the interview Baz Luhrmann did with Elvis's best friend Sam Bell about when they were kids in Tupelo. It's extremely interesting and he really listened because he started out with exactly what Sam told him about Elvis and the black churches. A wealth of info and great guy who unfortunately died not too long after the interview....

@@Seanryan2001 They should have publicized that more back then, as well as Louie Robinson's "The truth about that Elvis Presley rumor." (Jet Magazine, August 1957) the Charlotte Observer interview where he talked about wanting to bang his guitar like (old man) Arthur big boy Crudup, or the Vancouver interview where he told them that his love of music came from colored (old time, maybe a message) spirituals, as well as other ones later on. Not just for Elvis but for the recognition the biggest entertainer at that time was giving to people during that period of time that weren't getting the recognition they deserved. I've been nervous for a movie before and it's not about what I'll think of it but what others will think about it. Elvis is an incredibly complex person. Although he is the most successful singer of all time and known around the world even without leaving the states, people think they know him and what he's about because of the plague those insipid impersonators bring upon his name. He isn't a mythical being, he was a person with thoughts and feelings which is what I hope this movie will help to return what has been taken from him and that's his humanity.

Austin got his essence..he may not look exactly look like the older Elvis.. but he sure got his swagger.. and this is when he really shows his acting chops.. hard to do..
by the way.. he sings all the young elvis.. & they blended his voice w/Elvis for the jumpsuit Elvis
