- In this tutorial I will demonstrate how to fly the Sidestep Approach in the B737. The Sidestep is a manoeuver which is requested by ATC if they’d like you to land on the adjacent runway.

lol this would’ve been useful for cross the pond. Had to switch runways and didn’t even have time to put in the frequency for the ILS
You are at your best when you produce these educational videos. Thank you.
Agree, you can understand why his operator engages him in training roles cant you, he makes a wonderful teacher :-)
Nice XP12.1 B3 looks great and flies well!
Fascinating. Thank you, Captain.
Would you need to also brief the standard missed approach for the newly assigned runway whilst initiating the sidestep?
If so I can imagine the workload must be very high!
If ATC requested this i’d confirm the missed approach to be flown. ATC might want something different than the approach just flown. 👍🏻
Nice one! Could you possibly do a video of the "breakoff 24" approach into Amsterdam Schiphol where you start on the ILS for runway 27 then visual onto runway 24?
Thanks for the video. Looking at the moment you zoom in to show the difference in the threshold for 07L I remembered a couple of doubts I've always had. In real life there's no zoom to check for the runaway. How far can you spot a runawy and how difficult it is to spot it from the air on different weather conditions? And the last one, how do you measure visually the distance to the runawy when you are in the air, without using instruments for it?
As ever, thank you so much Captain! Super interesting and learnt something new! 🙂
I've tried the beta and it crashed the sim several times. So I'm back to 12.0.9
yo
One thing I noticed with the new beta….all of the external views of the aircraft have a white halo glow around everything.
Nice explanation, but still doesn’t explain how you got all those alpacas onboard
Wasn’t one of your finest landings captain. Great video it’s interesting to see all of your operators requirements for this simple manoeuvre
Excellent tutorial, thank you very much.
Great video! Do you get cleared for a side step approach much in Europe? I'm not a pilot, but I feel like it's a lot more common in the US than here.
I’ve not flown one once, like you said I think more common in the US/outside Europe 👍🏻

Nice video and landing! I guess this is not possible with the autopilot, as it would take to long to reconfigure? Would a go-around be preferred to a sidestep?
Cannot really manipulate the A/P to fly this accurately, really need to disconnect and hand fly. We’d always accept (meeting the criteria mentioned in the tutorial) a sidestep over a go around but the option is always available 👍🏻

Brilliant stuff mate!
How would a missed approach work if it was defined off of 05R? Would you get different instructions in reality?
Depends on traffic! Possibly!
You will initially follow the std missed apch for 05R with that being said, and ATC will likely vector you hearing you’re going around
Good question, if ATC requested this if confirmed the missed approach, ATC might want something different than the missed approach for the approach just flown. 👍🏻
Nice video
good tutorial skipper, looked like a different landing on the replay to the original one??
Thank you! The video replays were all from the same landing! Just recorded it all and the edited in the relevant bits 👍🏻
