  • The ZIBO MOD for the default 737 in XP 11 gets better and better! Today we're flying into Blackpool (EGNH) in Version 3.25w of the MOD, we're holding just to the South of the airfield as we prepare for an RNAV/GNSS Approach into the UK’s favourite seaside resort!
    Join me in the hold at TIPOD as we prepare and brief RNAV RW28 using real world operating procedures and fly the approach using VNAV.
    The Approach is flown live time and live weather. This allows me to show you real guidance on how we fly certain approaches using a variety of techniques. The only change I made in this tutorial was to switch the wind 180 degrees so RW28 would be in use!
    As we fly the approach I will explain exactly what I’m doing as I show all the actions completed by both PF and PM whilst simultaneously flying the aircraft.
    Any questions feel free to ask!

    All guidance in my tutorials are based on real world operating procedures, I have almost 4000 hours on the 737-800 (The real one) and I'm also a full-time Instructor working in a full motion Level D simulator.

      mcdonaldc1989 wrong. They can be used for gear up landing, high GW landing, short runway landing, overweight landing, low friction coefficient on a short runway etc. that’s why I’m asking for such a tutorial, because in this one he used flaps 40 to land ;)

    • @MaikuraTetsudoE231keiChannnel
      @MaikuraTetsudoE231keiChannnel 6 років тому

      It’s not rare to see 40 landings..
      Some flight sim users say about how strict they are about 40 setting in 737 “except in emergencies” Wrong!
      As far as I know it there is a good reason for it, you can use it.
      Since you need more thrust you will end up using bit more fuel. But again, (as Boeing specifies 40 as normal landing flap config) as long as there’s a reason for it, you don’t have to hesitate using it :)
      Could be wet runway, short runway, etc.

    Great video as always with lots of good info and I for one am not just happy to see you using the Zibo mod but even more happy your first video featuring it was what made me switch to XP11 from P3D and the NGX. I find it unlikely I will go back - wouldn't want to be without the flight model found in the Zibo.
    One question which might have been answered already in another video. If this would have been in cold weather, would you then have left anti ice ON (including the engine start switches) until you arrive at the gate? Or would they go off when vacating the runway?

Is it as simple as tapping the toe breaks to disengage the autobrake or is there a keystroke i should set up? Additionally, what is the relevance of the 80kt callout? Thank you, and keep it up!

    really enjoyed watching, ..I'm still getting aquainted with the plane. I've been practicing some RNAV approaches with no published speed constraints. When I manually enter speeds into the FMC the VNAV doesn't seem to comply. This is during the approach segment. Will VNAV still follow the glide path using speed intervention to reduce approach airspeed? Also, can the Zibo do INA approaches using APP mode for RNAV approaches? thanks, a lot to sort out!

    Hi, it’s still not really clear to me when I can set the missed approach altitude. I know you said “at the top of this white bar” but what is that, does it capture something at that moment? Does it activate some kind of landing phase? Thanks.

  • @massimodalessandro9259
    @massimodalessandro9259 6 років тому

    Great as always Captain! One question, in real world non-precision approaches, which guidance function is the preferred method to capture the final descent altitudes, the vertical speed adjustment wheel on the MCP or FMC VNAV? It feels as though using the V/S gives you that extra sense of control vs relying solely on the VNAV. Take care!

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  6 років тому +1

      Hi Massimo!
      VNAV everyday as it is extremely accurate and reliable and will not put you below the correct height, it is in essence a virtual glide path.
      V/S, although you directly control and can be used, is solely based on altitude distance cross checks to ensure you are at the correct height each nm. We do occasionally fly V/S approaches, usually when there is no approach coded in the FMC and with certain approaches VNAV can't be used due to terrain!

    Thanks for this video once more, great content! Watched this again today and did an RNAV to EDDN 10 successfully. But I, like you, ended off center by quite some margin. Is this a Zibo problem? The A320 I have does it exactly on the spot.

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  5 років тому

      Hi FlyingPauls,
      I'm not sure, certain approaches don't exactly align you with the runway but most RNAV approaches do, it could be the way it's coded in the FMC, I've mostly had successful approaches in the MOD but the occasional NPA hasn't exactly aligned. I'll mention it to ZIBO.

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  6 років тому +1

      You're most welcome Tom,
      You can arm APP using a sytem called IAN (Integrated Approach Navigation), our fleet are not fitted with this option and I've I know very little about it!
      I believe in this case the PFD will annunciate G/P (glide path) instead of G/S (glide slope) after arming APP. Flying IAN requires proper equipment and approval and allows you to use the LPV minimums on the chart which Blackpool doesn't have so you have to use LNAV and VNAV or V/S

      Well I had almost a perfect RNAV-Z into ENAL today using 3_256 latest, unluckily it did not seem that the bird wanted to fly it correct, approach looked somewhat un-aligned which also may be because of the 25 knots headwind that came just of the side (050/25 for 06). I had to disconnect above minimum just to take control, if not I most certainly have landed on the parking space LOL.. Anyway, when it came to G/S, I asked you a question in the forum, guess you see it next time you visit. All in all, learning a great deal from your videos, keep em coming.. PS.. Love that the FIX rings are finally in place, and the excellent ACARS..

      Fully understand, no rush at all.. Just wanted to know why there is an option for G/S in the FMS when selecting RNAV approach. What does it do? It has ON/OFF, but I do not know why Glide Slope is optional since the airplane is following the GPS..

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  6 років тому +1

      Not too sure! It’s not fitted to our fleet, I think it gives guidance from the FMS to provide a virtual LOC and G/P. I think I selected it on when I flew the RNAV Approach in this tutorial so I would get the NPS scales.

    Dear Captain, thanks for the video (a little late but now I wanted to learn about the gnss app ;p), found it very useful. I never thought it was this easy, you just have to follow the charts as gnss app and follow the fmc.
    If possible I would like to ask you if gnss and visual are the same?
    And if RNAV and RNT are the same because I have recently heard about it on the LMML ATIS report and went searching about it but still was in doubt, (you can never fully wikipedia XD.. Always trust fd2sim!)
    Thanks again Captain and Happy flying!

      Hi Samuel,
      LNAV/VNAV are just roll and pitch modes the aircraft use to fly guidance programmed in the FMC. It's used in all phases of flight and can be used to fly an approach in the FMC, the FMC is still able to generate curved lines and radius to fix tracks and is extremely accurate, We use it to fly RNAV, VOR, NPA and Visual approaches at my outfit and can be just as accurate as an ILS!

    Hi FD2S, Nice video again as always. Learning a lot in short time which also leads to another (spam) question (sorry). Often see on RNAV approaches different plates using different letters. I.e. LOWI RWY 8 having RNAV Y (GNSS) and RNAV Z (RNP). Now i see that they have different fixes and hights. For Y using MDA 7100' (so BARO min) and Z DH(A) 2900' (RA min). Although I think that i know that the difference is clear... as the first is I guess MSL+ Elevation + Minimum, and the second is minimum above runway by Radio altimeter. Is that the right assumption? And...what to use when?? Many thanks again.

      Adding 40ft to an MDA ensures if we GA we never actually get below.
      Yes I'd expect the WPT to match the FMC but this isn't always the case.

    There is a command line option -accurate_runways in X-Plane that moves default scenery runways to correct location that should match your nav data. The airport may look a bit broken but the runways should always be in the correct spot. Just a little tip if you ever had bigger issues with runway positions :)

      Hello FD2S!
      Another great tutorial, and yes i am learning something when I watch your videos!
      I can not comment on runways in the UK, but here in China many approaches are not aligned in real life as well as in the sim... Just realized recently that the database for magnetic Variation was just updated a little under two years ago (worldwide). Here at my home airport in Shanghai (ZSSS) the approaches are off by about 2 degrees and this matches the change in variation published just recently.
      My guess is that the Chinese CAAC decided to keep the original published procedures provided they are within accuracy tolerances rather than re-aling hundreds of Localizer Antennas....
      Once I realized the above I am much more tolerant of the mag variation errors that seem apparant in the sim, as they reflect real life in some cases :)
      Cheers, and keep up the excellent tutorials!

      Interesting to hear, all NPA's I've flown using LNAV have always suitably placed the aircraft on the extended centerline (Europe only!) and offset approach have placed the aircraft at the suitable MAPt to then disconnect and position manually.
      Hope flying in China is treating you well!

      Thanks for the reply FD2S!
      When I have the time, I have been modeling one of the significant airports here in China that does not have more than a generic runway in XPlane (ZSHC).
      As part of that, to do accurate modeling, I downloaded the AIP for this airport published by CAAC (Amended Sep 2017).
      Though the worldwide database of mag variation has been updated (10 year cycle), the Chinese AIP for this airport still shows 4E Variation, whereas the worldwide data says 6+ degrees... My guess is that at least for this area, it explains why there is a disparity in the sim (at least for China).
      Cheers!

    Great video as always F2S! Thanks for the info! I have two questions:
    1. After landing, can you vacate on an inactive cross runway if it can save time or make the taxi easier?
    2. Also, what is the difference between the categories B, C and D for the minimums on the charts? I know that aircraft like the A320 and the B73 series use C.

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  6 років тому +2

      Hi Alex, thanks!
      1. Very airport specific but we'll plan to vacate at an exit to minimize taxi time, usually no problem to cross or use an inactive runway.
      2. Aircraft Category is based on speed over the threshold (VAT) For CAT C it's from 121-140kts
      Good Luck!

      You can arm APP using a system called IAN (Integrated Approach Navigation), our fleet are not fitted with this option and I know very little about it!
      I believe in this case the PFD will annunciate G/P (glide path) instead of G/S (glide slope) after arming APP. Flying IAN requires proper equipment and approval and allows you to use the LPV minimums on the chart which Blackpool doesn't have so you have to use LNAV and VNAV or V/S, either way you can still let the A/P fly you to minimums

    Simply a remarkable job my friend! Such a pleasure to see a professional pilot utilize this incredible simulator. I do have one question if you could help me out I also fly this plane in X-Plane 11 with the mod. I am having a problem with the FMC in regard to having it auto calculate the V speeds from the takeoff page. People are saying that there is a bug in the system whereas the autothrottle will not arm unless the V speeds are calculated. People are saying that you have to set the outside temperature I've tried that to no avail for some reason they do not Auto calculate. I have flown the pmdg 737 add with FSX and it is a little bit different but the V speeds do auto calculate any help would be greatly appreciated I am pretty familiar with the FMC in the Boeing it has worked in other times but for some reason as of lately it is not working Perhaps it is a bug I'm not sure thank you in advance. Hi gemster, you should be able to engage the A/T without V Speeds, I've not tried in the ZIBO MOD without it so it could be a bug.
      I apply my operators procedures to both aircraft and it works quite well, the NGX is obviously a complete product with pretty much every system working. ZIBO's MOD has pretty much a full FMC and more and more change and features are made all the time!

    Trying to get my head around how SPD INTV is supposed to work and noticed how you mention around 13:30 into the clip how opening the speed window normally would revert VNAV PTH into VNAV SPD. In the Zibo mod though, this doesn't seem to happen but it remains in VNAV PTH.
    Any chance you could elaborate a bit on SPD INTV and how it's supposed to work and when/if selecting SPD INTV would also affect the VNAV mode?

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  6 років тому +2

      Hi Richard.
      VNAN will stay in VNAV PTH when you open the SPD window in certain situations, just like in this tutorial. This happens when flaps are extended, on a geometric path descent between two waypoints and when flying a vertical angle in the FMC (I don't think this is modelled in the ZIBO MOD yet)
      If you don't meet this criteria the aircraft will engage in VNAV SPD which is very similar to LVL CHG, IDLE thrust is commanded and the aircraft pitches for a speed.
      Hope this helps!
      FD2S

      Many thanks for confirming this!
      Reason for the question is I was instructed by ATC the other day to slow down to 230 for traffic separation when I was at FL130 and doing about 270 knots and before reaching the first altitude constraint. Obviously at this speed, I was clean.
      In this situation pressing SPD INTV should have changed VNAV PTH to VNAV SPD with the result of the aircraft pitching up to slow down to 230 - correct?

    Hi, I've been flying (and crashing) the 737 for a couple of months now. Specifically using the zibo 737. All you tube clips I have seen have appeared to teach at a level where a lot of information is expected to be already known. I have fumbled through and worked a lot out with help from other sim pilots that actually go through it with me on discord. This has been very helpful but there are so many basic knowledge gaps that I have. Example: what is the difference between heading and course? I try to use VNAV and LNAV but often the plane won't descend as the fmc is set to do and the speed is always too high. I end up using all of the other autopilot controls (level change, vertical speed, heading, etc) because the plane seems to be ignoring the fmc. I watched this video of yours as I thought it appeared to be your oldest video. Therefore, I was hoping there'd be a bit more of a basic tour around the cockpit and what everything does and how it all works together. Could you suggest a video that does this? BTW, I did still get a lot out of this video. I just know I am missing some of the very basic parts. Thanks!

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  6 років тому +4

      Lesson 101 on how to land an aeroplane!!
      It doesn't matter if you're in a Cessna 150 or a 747, the initial part of the approach to the threshold you must look at the aiming point (In this case abeam the PAPI's).
      You keep the aiming point or visual reference in the same part of the windscreen. The aim is to fly the aircraft down to 50ft initially using PAPI guidance and then keeping the aiming point in the exact same part of the windscreen , if it starts moving up or down that means you're moving up and down and you're moving off the vertical profile.
      Hope this makes sense!

    Is there any way to copy this speak to paper so very novice person can understand what the pilot is talking about.

    I find it curious that airlines use feet even outside the US

    I'm using the Zibo mod in the current 3.25w version too but my Co-pilot FMC isn't working. In your video it does! Could you or someone else tell me please what I forgot to do that my 2nd FMC isn't working yet? Thank you!
    I recommend the installation of the...
    - AutoGate plugin (includes Marshaller): forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/5038-autogate-plugin/
    - MisterX6 Library: forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/28167-misterx-library-and-static-aircraft-extension/

      Hi MrPatLo.
      R FMS is not functioning, I just selected LEGS page as PM would have this on during most stages of flight.
      For now I'm just sticking with XP11, the MOD and some basic tweaks. I'll check out the AUtoGate plugin nonetheless!

      Hi Finn Lei Thomczyk.
      In real life with the tiller which is on the side
      In the ZIBO MOD you need to assign yaw control to allow you to taxi with your Rudder 👍🏼

    When you say that an actual pilot is testing any aircraft, these pilots have just discovered the flight simulator, and they have never heard of it. I will tell you all the pilots trained on FS1 FS 95 98 2000 FS 2004 FSX, X-PLANE not to confirm you they use it until our days for their flight. :D
