One of the best how to videos ever produced. Atomizer screen and fuel filter was $13 so it’s a cheap fix. Thank you for the information, saved me a pile of cash!
Another common smoking problem and not starting is the gasket inside under the burner assembly. They will split after awhile. The heater is quite easy to disassemble so once a year I totally take it apart and replace gasket and blow the burner out and change atomizer screen and fuel filter. I find doing preventative maintenance before the cold weather hits is much better than being pissed off and freezing in a cold truck.
thank you for clear explanation and all detail.best way the thanks trucker.we will save lot of money and covid time hard the get mechanic to fix our problems
A very helpful video. just ordered my new screen and tool and now know exactly what to do. Thanks. my heater starts and doesn't smoke but stops after 15 mins and been advised after changing the fuel filter that it could be the screen so going to try that before replacing any sensors.
My heater has performed flawlessly on my sailboat for five years but smoking at start now. Time to change the screen; did the filter already last year.
Great information. Thanks for posting this in 2013. Watching in 2020. I’m going to refer back to this in the future. What is the recommended service interval for filter, atomizer screen and brushing/picking carbon? Do you go by total hours run or calendar? Obviously fuel quality will vary and so will interval. Just asking because I just installed one in my travel van. Is there also a service interval you’d recommend for complete disassembly to fully clean and inspect the burn chamber? Thank you.
Great video. I have a d3 unit that was smoking bad and fuel coming out of the exhaust. Replaced unit with new still getting smoke. Not S much still smoking is that due to the flex exhaust pipe possible dirty inside. Or can a bad dose meter pump make it smoke also.
Cool vid my heater starts up then shuts down it said error 6 I have checked everything even the motor on a 12 volt battery that's fine I don't know how to fix it
I had the same message during the extreme cold snap we had here with overnight temps of -31 F. My Heater died just as it was speeding up after startup. I believe it was due to the low voltage shutdown. Even though I run the heater off a new (fully charged) dedicated 100ah battery the startup procedure used so much power from the weakened battery (due to the extreme cold) that it shut dow. I kept the battery indoors last night and had no problems this morning. Apparently there is a way to adjust the shutdown voltage, but I have not been able to find out how to do that with the Easystart controller. Anybody know how to do that?
You can go & buy a variety pack from harbor freight & tool with various sizes under $10.00 stair step sizes of 4 or 5 maybe 6 I was too lazy to lift my bunk & see.
Nice video, my heater start then stop after few minutes and says fan stopped working, fan work all the time but when massage pop up then it started, if anyone can help
I have an Eberspacher, version: D2. It sometimes, throws heat and sometimes it doesn't. I did notice that one ones it did throw out white smoke. Ever since then it's a bit of miss when I turn the heat on. Any suggestion?
I have the same problem I'm about to do a filter replacement as I've seen on this video and hoping that would resolve the problem plus check in the burn chamber and break it down even further and clean out the burn chamber as I seen another videos
It takes me about 45 minutes to an hour to change the screen. I know some might do it faster, but that's how long it takes me. It takes me about 15 minutes to change the small fuel filter. located by the fuel pump, outside of the truck. So, all together, by the time I clean up and put tools away, about 1.5 hours labor. I've been doing this for several years now, and I usually service it once per year. But, the last time I did it, I went two years, because I did a lot of running in warmer states during those winters, and wasn't using the Espar as much. The fuel screen was pretty black by then, but to my surprise the burner screen was in pretty good shape. There was very little carbon build up, and it came out of the hole fairly easy. Hope this helps some. Trust me, this is time well spent. If you do this regularly, your Espar will always fire up (without the huge clouds of white smoke poisoning everybody in the truck stop) and keep you warm. Good luck.
That's like saying when I use to have a woman I put so many sex miles on her body that I'm a professional now and since I'm single now any woman l choose to step to now will have me because I'm a professional.
That's like saying why to I have to buy tires. Wait it's also like deer crossing sign they should not be on highways so the deer does not cross a busy highway.

Very useful thanks!
Any way to remove the inlet fuel filter and install an inline fuel filter from a riding mower or something?
Do you think you could use a butane torch (i.e mini creme brulee torch) to clean out the carbon build up in the burn chamber?

I put new glow pin new screen new fuel filter cleaned the air intake hole but the heater still blows white smoke!!! What should I do?
Can I use carb cleaner to help get atomizer screen loose?
thank you Brko
I damaged the glowplug hole thread while trying to remove that screen 😭😭😭 is there anyway i can rethread that hole so i can screw the plug back in
A machine shop can fit a helicoil thread insert for you or you could do it yourself if you’re feeling adventurous 👍🏻🇬🇧
What size is that steel brush do you have and where did you buy it? Amazon has them just wondering the size to fit in the camber hole..
