One of the better service vids I've seen. Bio-diesel cokes these up fast. Then add in anti gell to a tank...... I keep spare parts to tear down mine. What I keep on hand.- 12mm deepwell socket with slot cut for glow plug. 4" long 8mm bolt used to safely remove screen for reuse. 1qt kerosene tank. Carb cleaner. Usually after the first sub 20⁰f use mine starts to fail starts. This takes me about 15min to do I've done it enough every winter. Pull the glow plug then spray carb cleaner into and through screen to loosen up tar. Insert 8mm bolt and with light pressure 97% time able to remove screen with no damage. Clean screen and plug bore with carb cleaner and a 9mm bore brush. Heat screen with small torch to finish cleaning and anneal it. If it not round due to something just push over shoulder of bolt to reform it. If it was smoking especially bad before it stopped working that is when I'll connect the kerosene tank and let it cook off and clean the burner before switching back to main tank diesel. As I said I keep spare glow plug and multiple screens so I can just get it going as fast as possible. When it -28⁰f and 01.00 in the morning speed getting it going is required. I recently got my hands on a second one and going to figure how to mount it so I just need to move the harness over 😅
Thanks for the cutaway of the burner... This was my issue. Coked up and soaked to the point of no fuel passing... Tip.... So what i did instead of replacing. I popped off the impeller input cover. Used a blow torch to burn the inside cherry red a few times. It will burn off all the diesel and allows me to tap and shake out all the carbon... Repeat till none comes out. From the impeller input you can see the mesh peaking through the slots. Take a pick and run it along the mesh causing it to vibrate... Blow it out and you can get air flow now when blowing into the glow plug hole now... Round off the rivet pins and install the cover again and peen them to secure the cover. Reassemble and it will fire right away. Basically the blow torch burned out and loosened all the carbon hotter than the unit can ever do. Another tip. If possible once a year pop off the fuel line from the tank and run a short whip into a bottle of straight kerosene (a trick many do in the sailing forums) it will burn way hotter and clean up the system from fuel that left biodiesel deposits. You will actually see sparks and ash comming out of the exhaust.
I can agree with with the last part, running on kerosene was at a time mentioned in North American manuals but not here in the EU. It is an option to burn out the carbon and if it really works why not, I have not tried myself this way.
One other thing. This happened to me too.. Would only run on high and if turned down, medium will shut it down.... Its overheating. Inlet plugged. So mine had an inlet duct which would consistently accidentally get covered. Also tge pipe would have built up dust and stuff.... So i basically removed the inlet duck and now it breaths cold air from downnin the boot box area.... So two problems solved. It gets sufficient cold air so it will never over heat even in low... AND NOW no more moisture in my storage... My tools and stuff were always soaked with condensation... Not any more.
Hello, tank your for this video, I would like to know if it is possible to replace the Airtronic Mini controller on my 2018 Challenger 290 motorhome with an Easy Start Pro digital controller or another?
I have the same heater but it will not get hot just blows cold i had it all apart glow plug works of a battery but fan only comes on in the high setting any help would be great thanks 👍
I have a problem. The heater comes on and the fan goes into high mode, but hardly any air comes out the front and then it shuts down. Do I have a bad burn chamber fan?
Mine is very noisy whilst running, it sounds like the fan or bearings whaling how do i fix this ? ...Could i lubricate the bearings if so how is this done
Not really, I have a video with a D4 with the same issue. I heard about some guys changing bearings, if you can diy than it is probably worth it but I don't recommend it. You will not have the tools to balance the blower and probably the brushes need changing as well. The motor is closed by pressing, no screws so it is hard to get it open without damaging it.
I’m having a hard time getting the unit to run at all. The controller says it’s running, all fuses are still good but nothing happens the fan won’t even turn on. Any suggestions?
Well you could have a sensor problem but first I would delete all the errors and try again. Check the ducts so the is no restrictions. You can find the installation manual for the Easystart Pro online and there you have the way to delete errors
Well it could be just a simple wireing fault or something more expensive like the ECU. I would disconnect all parts from the ECU and try supplying only that alone. If it still blows the fuse and the harness is fine then it's probably that. Also make sure polarity is not reversed at the battery. At that point in time they were equipped with Wherle ECus from factory and they have a bad reputation.
@@DIYHelper thanks for replying, I have removed the unit and checked the connections for corrosion etc to eliminate voltage drop, It's installed in a boat and the wiring run is about 4 meters, I will do as you say and check it. If it does blow the fuse, can you supply a second hand ecu? although I do have a chinese 4kw heater kicking around so maybe I could harvest the ecu from that??
Salutare! Recent am montat aceasta unitate la un service autorizat si nu au pus evacuarea aceea mica(au spus ca mai mult in face rau) pareri? Multumesc!
Pile of crap heaters. Even returned mine to the dealers for a service and fault find. Picked it up working fine. First use in the evening not working. £140 out of pocket. Will be cheaper to get a Chinese heater and just replace it it stops working

Excellent intelligent video. Your a very good engineer and person sharing your wealth of knowledge. Romania should be proud.👍
Thank you for the kind words!
Great video. It’s given me the confidence to repair the heater that has similar problems. Thank you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Fantastic , I will now have the confidence to tackle my broken heater . Cheers
Very good, watch the second video in the description, much more detailed walk trough.
@@DIYHelper Yeah thanks , i also watched it . Just applied the Wd40 to the nuts and bolts to remove it from my Campervan in a couple of days .
Thanks for this truly excellent video. Very well done!!
thank you for the awesome video , really helped me out
Thank you for the comment, there is a link in the description to a more detailed version 😉

Changed the fuel pump, screen ,heat sensor ,screen and glow plug unite runs for.5-10 minutes and shuts off. Can you help
Magnificent very helpful thank you
Any recommendations where I can go to get my heater repaired? I don't think I'd be able to do this on my own!! Can you take it to a garage?
I can only help with a workshop in Romania, just search on line for a workshop that repairs heaters close to you.
Very helpful, thank you. I don't think my d2 airtronic is modulating and runs just on high power. Can you explain about bridging the wires please?
Hello, just connect these 2 wires together on the harness and insulate. grey/red with brown/white. Remove the fuses for a few seconds.

Whit out an error code I would suspect a fuel problem, check if the pump is really working

i have same problem what i do now can you help me
Is it hard to remove this heater from the car? Is it safe to run car when heater removed?
Thank you!!
Nice video. Is there a way of diagnosing a D2 on a Scania ,with an aftermarket tool?
Depends on the heater number, some can be diagnosed some not
Airtronic D2 25 2173
@@cozmiccoz2195 it should be possible if the Ecu has number 255102003101 on the yellow/blue wire
It's a 2251020031010B
. 0B is just the revision so it doesn't matter
Dzięki kolego!
Why my heater works only on high setting?
Any setting from half scale down, the unit shuts off.
Thanks!
What controller do you have?
@@DIYHelper it's an analog one(dial)
The one came as a package with the tripac apu.
Well if it worked before than probably the resistance in the controller is bad if it never worked than properly some connection problem.

Hi , please make an video about new generation Airtronic and new generation Hidronic hirers . Thank you for advance 😊
I do have videos on them just look for them on my channel
I wanted to know if you have a workshop to repair my equipment that is defective and where I can send it. I live in Florida USA
I live in Europe so I doesn't really make sense.
I’m having a hard time getting the unit to run at all. The controller says it’s running, all fuses are still good but nothing happens the fan won’t even turn on. Any suggestions?
Which controller do you have?
@@DIYHelper I believe it’s the smart controller, it gives me the code 1. H1: restricted operation

I am sorry to hear that, I don't have any d4 ECUs. I don't think it is safe using the Chinese one on Eberspaecher.

Glow plug nut is a 12 😊
How i can Start the d2 without Controllpanel? I can just connect two Pins to Start?
The air heaters need a setpoint, just check you could connect red and yellow, but to work properly you need a controller
Anyone help with a error 9 on the controller 802 with a D2 heater

Its bigger then webasto.. thumbs up
Hi just wondering i have another chip besides the existing one on the brown fan lip would that be a problem or its gonna work like that
There is no rule on how many places the plastic is chipped, this is how the fan is balanced in the factory so don't worry about it.

THIS IS OUTDATED. THE DESIGN CHANGED.
Yes the design has changed but some of us are still running these older D2 heaters so this guide still applies and is helpful. 👍🏻
