Don't fall for the badge, I regret selling my CBR1000rr 2017 and purchasing a 2020 S1000RR race edition. The bike is jerky in the first gear, shitty clutch with no gradual friction range, gets super hot at every traffic light, turning radius is too large, seat height is not what you think, won't start before you try it a few times (software issue), paint varnish is too thin so it needs further treatment if you don't want scratches, the engine is vibrating like shit (numb hands after a couple of hours is guaranteed), mirrors are useless duo the bike vibration, bulky and wide fuel tank, navigation app sucks (always lagging so good luck finding your exact turn), the front brake has a savage bite UA-cam is full of crap which results in losing the hard-earned money . be careful, please It is only a good bike for the track and not for commuting or weekend joyride PLUS, YOU DON'T GET TO RIDE IT BEFORE YOU PAY IT IN FULL
Older one the best looking and I think it's a better bike ... granted nee one has all the tech and a.tft screen which youl never look at whilst riding I might add and also ohhhh I looks like a ducati... so its the older one for me .
Have ridden the old 2017 in same configuration and new 2020 in M and normal version with HP wheels only the M with carbon wheels make a difference. Specifically regarding the steering. It is way more light. Powerwise the old with a full akra is as fast as the new one. Also in the midrange when mapped. But indeed standard vs standard the 2020 has more midrange grunt. Also some 500 rpm more on the top end. Very negative re the 2020 is that it has a lot more vibrations and the engine makes more noise. Still in my opinion the old one looks more special.
I’ve seen on a bmw letterhead a dealership memo explaining the delay in deliveries of the 2020 is due to a halt in production due to a third party supplied component issue. I guess at some stage we will find out more. Looks like they’ll be back on track in a few months time and start clearing the backlog. There’s still issues with the US delivered bikes due to emission driven detuning of the bike in the low range rpm. My plan is to wait until the 2nd gen bike comes out and they’ve sorted the gremlins out of it. I figure that’s 12 months away. Hopefully not that long.
I test rode the M version a few weeks back and never had that problem with the cruise control shutting off when removing my hand off the throttle. Just wish they would hurry up and deliver mine 10 months and counting!!!!

My 2020 dose not have this issue
They've screwed up the tuning on the U.S. version of the bike, giving it a big flat spot in power in the mid-range in the lower gears.
