I love how you have your students back between two trucks with actual people sitting in them watching you back. Trucking students need that practice. Backing between two trucks at a truck stop with all trucker eyes on you was the scariest thing I did as a new driver.
Sure I’m still strangling when someone watching me 😩😩 I never overcome that feeling I know how to do all maneuvers but when I being watched I lost everything I learned
I like how you cover a lot with a shorter video. You have great tips with different camera looks. Nothing annoys me more than 15 minutes videos and 12 of it is a selfie with rambling. Nice job
I struggled with backing up for months , its tough and confusing when you don't have an instructor. So Ill give you new guys a tip because sometimes its so basic that instructors over look it. whenever you do a see side back, (your driver side closest to the hole) Your always going to turn the wheel to the right I didn't have an instructor So It used to confuse the shit out of me . So theres nothing to think about now. You know your going to turn the wheel to the right . #2 Distance from the hole is always a good thing when you can get it You can go slow and glide it in better. #3 Make sure there is enough room for your tractor to straighten up .You can set up perfectly only to realize you cant straighten up your tractor due to an obstacle . You have to ajust your set up and come in at a deeper angle .Use the rear wheels of the trailer to aim . Pick a spot that lines up with the dock door , Use any mark on the ground, puddle tire tracks . You may say Ok two feet past the crack or puddle Aim your rear wheels for it .
Why does everyone say "I'm gonna get out of my truck" without explaining that you need to put it in neutral, set the parking brake, exit while maintaining 3 points of contact? Might be helpful to us rookies to remember this. :)
Of all the videos I've seen on the 90 alley docking this is the best instructional wise. Most videos don't say anything or just not good advice. I'm getting ready to re test on my 90 now. And been watching this video it's really simple precise movements
Orlando Benjamin it is, I'm in CDL training and I did this for the first time today. But regardless as how it may look, it is easier than the other backing maneuvers that they are teaching is to do. I actually had no trouble don't this correctly
this is a great video if you have this much space. but if not, then you have to cut hard right and then get back under the trailer. or Jack knife then straighten the wheels and push the trailer. then get back under straighten out and use a pull up or 2 .
@@GoDriveATruck I used to take my students to the TA in Ontario, CA before and after DMV testing and would make them park in the first spot to the right as you enter the parking lot gate.
Their gonna laugh if you go for the G.o.a.l(get out and look) they will laugh if you hit anything for not looking lol, always go for the G.O.A.L and laugh at them after you successfully got in the hole!:)
If no one ever did anything because they worried about what people thought then no one would ever do anything. There’s a saying... “You laugh because I’m different and I laugh because you are all the same.
I have to do big cuts for the 90 because there's not enough space on the training lot to do this your way. i need to see how this is done in a tighter environment
@Tennesse Truck Driving School, Thankz alot Instructor Sean ! I used your technique of a small bit of angle for a long period of time, nailed my 90 degree ally dock on 10-10-2017 with zero errors and got a 100% score on my Range Skills & Maneuvers, I waz nervous as hell ! But I stayed focused, took my time and did it and got thru it 😉. In michigan your allowed 2 free get out and looks and 2 free pull ups.
Freightliner cascadia? I never knew of trucking schools with them. Ive seen Columbia's. Century class or even FLs. My school I attended has Kenworth T600s. Hopefully Ill pass my state test tomorrow.
think of it like this the way turn your steering wheel the front of your trailer will go that direction and your tractor and the rear of your trailer going the opposite directions when you backing
he had to loosen the angle so he turned left. if he wanted to tighten the jacknife more to the right he would have turned right. in this case 3:15 he turned left
can you please explain wich direction did you move the wheel after. when your rear trailer was between the two trucks and you stop and got down . its really hard to do that without going back and foward many times . you are a good driver
I started to work as a trucker, and I have no problems with alley dock, but what it seems more difficult for me is when I have to park a 40 size container in diagonal with no room to stay straight... if have any hint I would appreciate it
I start to work as a trucker, and I have no problems with alley dock, but what it throughout me is when I have to park a 40 size container in diagonal with no room to stay straight... if have any hint I would appreciate it
Cdl school told me not to watch videos because they will make you fail the test. Then I got out on the road and found out why. The test has exactly zero to do with reality. You almost never straight line back, at least with set lines. I have yet to have to offset exactly one lane over. Alley docking in real life let's you get out and look plus pull up infinite times, and if you encroach, you Probably lose your job. It's cool because I can parallel park every time though. 5 grand well spent. Now if only I could figure out how to move the rear of the trailer like 10 degrees in instead of exactly 90. God damn.
What you're talking about is when you can see both sides of your trailer in your mirrors; that is, when you're straight backing. When you have such a pronounced angle between your truck and trailer (during an alley dock, for instance), you're only looking down your driver side mirror, so a turn to the left is going to slow your cut, whereas a turn to the right is going to increase it.
Small cut, long distance = having a LOT of space. TONS of wide open GIGANTIC space. This happens maybe, only 10% or less of the time. That makes this tutorial more to serve the maker of the video, than to actually teach the backing student. Very, very unrealistic.
I think it’s a good video for people in school that have already learned the “traditional” 90 alley dock. I now know that I don’t have always do it that way thanks to this video. This is a simpler way of doing it.
Should have showed them how you setup exactly. U just said you pulled up but didn’t give them any reference on where u we’re coming from or where u we’re gonna stop. Otherwise the rest of the tips I’m sure helped some people.

I do like his style too!
Goed to see that you follow the trailer! Always suprised, you can read the trailer to see how many degrees you are making and follow the trailer back!
Very complicated concept but explained with great ease . Great presentation. Thanks man.
Simplest but most informative and best explanation of the alley dock that I have seen. Thanks!
smooth and perfect best one ive seen im a trucking student that was awesome

There is never that much space at a truck stop :/

How far do you setup from the "curb" ? 5ft?
Thanks more bro

What do you mean by the small cut on the alley dock can you please break it down for me please

Where did you turn using small cut did you turn left or right ?
Right. Alley's on his left side.
This is so funny because had this been at my truck driving school, he would have ran over the first cone on the left side as he started backing in.
