You are "the guy" that each and every one of us wants to have as a friend and neighbor. I will never stop thanking you for the efforts you put into keeping this channel going and teaching all of us.
I have had a sparkplug that would spark when it was out of the saw, but as soon as it was in the saw, it would not spark. Took me hours to figure out. Just food for thought in the future
Don't kid yourself friend. You are the go-to guy on chainsaws for most everyone that watches your videos. That's because they're top shelf stuff and we know you're good at what you do. I've enjoyed this series on the 026 because of the personal connection I have with these saws. I know they're frustrating to work on and I really appreciate you taking the time and effort to do this video series. These videos will help a lot of guys (me included) refresh their old 026 saws. I really love the diagnostics of finding a particular run problem, (especially when it's a head scratcher and doesn't make sense) IMO this is what makes your videos great.
This 026 rebuild has been some of my favourite content of your channel to date! I like how you show all the trials of getting this saw figured out. You definitely have patience for this stuff, good work Tinman!
Those 026 can be finneky for sure. Had the opposite chocke problem with my 026, since the spring in the airfilter had gotten sloppy. And would engage some when worm, and then become rich as a pig and unhappy. Changed the spring, and was fine afterwards🤞 Nice catch on the impulse line💪
Man ive had stihl ms390 thats been haunting me for a couple years, adjusted my fuel line at the carb for the 100th time and it just started working again, would constantly go lean when warm. Thanks for your videos
Hi Tinman, the 026 as you know can be problematic to start because of the choke set up in the air filter. I have found that it is just easier to shoot some fuel onto the filter for the first start of the day to make life easier with that series of saw. Even when the choke is working properly the saw is still getting to much air to start properly most times. I have moved away from that series of saw because of the same issues that you are experiencing. As you know Stihl has moved away from that filter choke system years ago for obvious reasons.
This journey has been super informational I would love one of these saws and no I know how to work on Thanks Tinnman for all your lessons we should call you the power-saw professor
Lol😂 Tinman. When you started this series. You said there are tons of you guys out there that have 026 like this one. A truer statement has not been said. We all have that saw that should run good but is a problem child. Most of us fix these saws with a credit card after being done with the struggle. Keep showing us the reality of fixing those uses saw gems.
My knowledge of working on saws is going up because of great videos like this one thanks Tinman for your efforts and willingness to share what you have learned over the years!
I'm really enjoying this series 10 man, my bigger saw got stolen a few years back and for the last two or three years I've cut all my firewood with an old tired 021! I just recently borrowed my grandfather's 025 and 019 top handle that has been sitting for literally 20 years and I knocked the dust off of them did the normal maintenance and then cutting with those a little bit so I've gotten to know this platform quite well and I love them!
Thanks for all the videos I really appreciate learning more knowledge, some Saw's I've worked on have really tested my patience so I just walk away and think on it for a while and watch more videos
have had a bad spark plug out of the box before, replaced with new and saw started, also did the cranks seals get replaced when saw was disassembled for the work.
Compared to a 353, that's a very complicated saw. I have a couple of Stihls now but I really just like working on 3 series of Husqvarnas and 21 series Jonsereds.
I mentioned in the other video about the impulse line, only because my 036 Pro I could not figure it out why it wouldn't run and the plug was dry. My impulse line was hard, replaced it, runs. Same exact situation. Tinman, that 026 sounds great and super responsive. Relived about 1 month of my life watching this series, but now we both have running saws!
Haha omg do I feel you with this saw. I have a project saw that has been like this for years now. Sometimes she starts in 3 pulls other times it wont start for months. Ive replaced just about everything on it and cannot figure it out. Glad to know Im not the only one who refuses to let the saw win.
Fast idle is very important on these saws. Without it they do not start well cold. I have actually had to bend throttle rods to get a fast idle on choke and the nest notch up.
I have experience that problem when my carburetor wasn't tight enough against the intake boot, i had to change the boot to make the seal better, great video Tinman.
Hey buddy concerning your allergies, I've always heard if you eat honey that is locally sourced it really helps with allergies if you eat like a teaspoon every day....might be something worth googling and trying? Trying to help a brother out with some annoyances, being I've learned so incredibly much from you about saws!!!
I’d like to see a new oem air filter on it. Could’ve been fines getting pushed around there blocking things. I know I went through the same issues with an o28 super. The air filter was the only thing I didn’t try. And I only ever got as far as you have in fixing it. Keep up the good work 👍
Just thinking out loud, if the choke is suspect, once its running, flip on the choke and see what it does...😊. It sure seems like the stars just lined up or something lined up... maybe something in the carb behind the welsh plugs let go... we'll see next video, if it still wants to cooperate. Good stuff though, for a minute there I was having 272xp ptsd. As my build is giving me the same cantankerous results....😂. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙
I enjoy watching you work through the problems. My initial thought when you applied the pressure test was maybe some debris blocking the impulse circuit. I look forward to seeing the next video to see if problem is resolved.
Those intermittent issues can sometimes get to the point of one questioning their choice in hobbies. One things for sure, that recoil sure is getting thoroughly tested lol!
Ive got an 024 it does this, leave in shed for couple o weeks won't start? Ive found those chokes dont seat well if you take filter off when cold bloke carb throat with finger it will fire choke never sit well on em
Hey tin man, you were talking about the heights of the pin and measuring it what would happen if the plate that you put over it is slightly bowed downward that would create the problem you’ve got if somebody has that in just nano it would create the problem you’ve got
You know the only other thing I can think of is the stale gas in the gas tank is messing with your offices in your carburetor acting like glue causing stuff to get stuck maybe you may need to clean the entire carburetor and tank of all the old gas varnish so that the tank is clean that's the only other thing I can think of causing the carburetor not to work properly and causing the impulse pump to get stuck and the gasket valves to get stuck. Still watching you can do it
I really think you should try the WD40 test. If you can get her started back up, just spray a little WD40 on all the places it could leak air. Mine was the base gasket but whatever the location is, when she sucks in some WD, it makes the air leak location really obvious.... stumbles and drops the idle.
HI TINMAN 😊😊 U can take the sparkplug out and cover the sparkplug a bit W your finger 2 help clean the saw out and dry the sparkplug off and try again and sometimes U have 2 hold the throttle open and a bad sparkplug 😮😮 will do that 2 also IVE seen sparkplugs be 4 😮😮 that won't start a chainsaw and when put a another 1 in the saw it starts right 👉 😊 up and make sure the fuel filter isn't stopped up if U can't get no air 2 go through it most of the time ⌚ 😮 it's no good sometimes U can use some carb cleaner and a air hose 2 clean out some times it will work and it won't try a another fuel filter 😊😊 OMG 9 13 2O24
Look for a hole in the engine. It works terribly! You have a diagnostic tool. Remove the muffler, carburetor, and cover the holes with rubber from the bike camera. Apply pressure and vacuum through the pulse tube and you will see all the problems of this engine! Good luck, you will succeed!
You are "the guy" that each and every one of us wants to have as a friend and neighbor. I will never stop thanking you for the efforts you put into keeping this channel going and teaching all of us.
you got that right!! I feel the same way
I have had a sparkplug that would spark when it was out of the saw, but as soon as it was in the saw, it would not spark. Took me hours to figure out. Just food for thought in the future
yup. guess how tricky that is to figure out when a new plug does that
Full throttle to the rescue
Awesome tree saw if yer in ya that sorta thing 😊
I was thinking of you when I did that!!
You certainly been digging into the weeds with all this troubleshooting. It’s been fun to watch.😊
Ove this series. Will be a great reference for future diagnosis

Enjoyed all of this troubleshooting episode...thanks for posting - appreciate your content.👍👍👍

Youll get er figured. Heres a catch phrase i got going when its hot. “Work dumber, not all summer”. Try it out. Always makes me chuckle
Heck yeah brother! Thanks for sharing, we all appreciate it !!

That’s a head scratcher for sure. I hope she just keeps running better and better for you! I can’t wait to see it in the wood

This channel has helped me so much to be able to work on my own saws it’s great! Thank you for your time you put into this for us!

This one has been a tough one. It's too bad you don't have another carb to try. I've been really enjoying this one. Thank you!!

Patients is a virtue, well done Tinman 😊

026 is similar to 036 layout. My 036 acts like yours, I will have to try a new impulse line.

That saw is something all that pulling and the it runs 😂

I love those older stihl saws and the 026 is my go to for limbing and bucking smaller stuff
Love learning the details of troubleshooting, thanks Tinman❤
You sir are an amazing feller. Thank you for all you do and the time you take away from your life for us.
I think with all the time investment it is becoming part of the family:)

It's got gremlins just like my 026. They usually live in the carb!
Nice to see it run well!! Now to see it cut……
You have to break a Sargeant in. Corbin is super expensive. But some rears disagree with some seats.
You mean to tell me you're human and dont know everything? Unbelievable.😂 Have a good weekend man!
Those intermittent issues can sometimes get to the point of one questioning their choice in hobbies. One things for sure, that recoil sure is getting thoroughly tested lol!
Love the power saws and love your work keep it up 💪
If it starts when it’s hot and not when it’s cold, I’d be looking at the choke setup. Maybe new filter on those. 👍🏼
What's on the end of the middle shelf next to the jonsered, above your timing wheel?
She runs & sounds good!
The 026 carburetor has very little adjustment for some reason?🤔 Yes go back after you’ve got it tuned and see if the adjustment stays or changes?
You did it!!! it sounds great
Ive got an 024 it does this, leave in shed for couple o weeks won't start? Ive found those chokes dont seat well if you take filter off when cold bloke carb throat with finger it will fire choke never sit well on em
Where the impulse line hooks on to the case. Is the fitting or hole in the case plugged
Awesome video Tinman
Corbin seat, got one, hard as hell to the feel , most comfy seat I ever had . On a ninja 1000 ZX 10
Check your tank vent I also had one do similar things after pulling my hair found the tank vent was blocked
Your a smart guy and know what your doing good work
Hey tin man, you were talking about the heights of the pin and measuring it what would happen if the plate that you put over it is slightly bowed downward that would create the problem you’ve got if somebody has that in just nano it would create the problem you’ve got

Didn’t you say the impulse line broke? Then you replaced it with an echo piece?
I ripped it pulling it out.
Ragweed probably hay fever. Suffer with you my friend. Hey emailed a lot over time never heard back? Showed you a pic of the early straight fuel line.
I know the problem "It ain't got no gas in it!"😂
My MS 271 runs perfect when upright but runs like crap when I turn it on its side ,whats up with that? I also have an 026 , it my "GO TO" firewood saw
Piece of trash got in the carb? Very weird, Twilight Zone..
Good video.
Hi Tim Man could you help me with my 266 Husqvarna se looking for sprocket and clutch assembly could you direct me to order one 3/8 I use
It's alive 😂😂😂. Awesome
Check your tank vent. I've owned three 026. 2 had bad tank vents
Its been a booger of a saw. Maybe we can get it in a piece of wood next
Put a new air cleaner its the choke
Stihl impulse lines can be replaced by the appropriate size fuel line. Just use needle nose piers to attach it to the carb nipple.
Why didn't you test it first before ripping it out and replacing it that would have helped to figure out if that's been the problem...
It doesn't want to be given away it wants to stay with the Tinman. 😊
Got a good sound once started!
The screw in the tank vent??
I really think you should try the WD40 test. If you can get her started back up, just spray a little WD40 on all the places it could leak air. Mine was the base gasket but whatever the location is, when she sucks in some WD, it makes the air leak location really obvious.... stumbles and drops the idle.
I love the old Stihl saws but the choke system on the 026 is so annoying. The 034/036 is a way better setup and one of my favourite saws.
You mean like your old, can't drop start your saws. Etc. Etc. Believe me it's coming. The clock never stops, just like gravity. 😬
Sorry, but what was the problem?
Tinman does it again!!!!! Feels good i bet!!!
How's the Tinman and family
👍
See if Corbin makes a saddle for your bike
the guy!
Tinman will I you at Paul Bunyan in a few weeks?
The 024 and 026 use the same carb
You need surgeons hands not sausages for fingers
Look for a hole in the engine. It works terribly! You have a diagnostic tool. Remove the muffler, carburetor, and cover the holes with rubber from the bike camera. Apply pressure and vacuum through the pulse tube and you will see all the problems of this engine! Good luck, you will succeed!
