I'm Japanese The Nikkei food seems very delicious It's not easy to describe how impressed I was with your Nikkei foods cooking.I'm proud of Peruvian-Japanese profession
I always thought that my mom was cooking Japanese food when I was a kid, now that I live in Japan, I know that even it looks the same it taste different, My grandparents were Japanese who immigrated to Peru. So the name is correct is peruvian nikkei food. Both are really delicious !
Peru is the Most Asian Country Out of The Asia Continent .. Chinese + Japanese Immigrant's coming to Peru for years ago // Food of Both Sides are Best of The World Fusion With Peruvian Flavor's ..Peru Have Afro - Peruvians ( Nigeria ) , Italians , Spanish , Native Cultures , + The Magical Influence of Flavors ..
Best thing I've seen on Vice/Munchies in months. Covering lesser known food culture that not many people would cover, without the needless "drunk chefs after hours" garbage. Thank you!
The reason why several inmigrants feel more peruvian than their country of origin is because they don't feel uninvited in their new country. That's what happens with Italian-americans, chinese-americans, even afro-americans in the US, who tend to make little niches and different social groups of the receptor country. In Peru it isn't like that, Africans, Whites, autoctonous and Asians are all the same if you have a peruvian accent. We are all peruvian.
No, it's all the same. We make fun of Asians, blacks, Indians, etc. we the majority can do that and it's also done in other cultures. It's normal behavior
@ you and scooby are both right and wrong Yes there is a LOT of racism in Peru and it is more in your face than in America. Although in American it can become more lethal because you can lose your life for being of a certain race. The difference is that in Peru the white minority is very small so the feeling of "underpriviledge" is not so overwhelming like it is in the States. "Americans" do not have a strong culture the way peruvians do so it does not motivate immigrants to adopt it. While Peruvian culture is very strong and welcoming in many different ways other than the fully acceptance of other ethnic groups
Peru got a lot of Japanese & Chinese cuisine influence but with a Peruvian flavors ingredients . I am from Peru living in USA . Was easy to have Peruvian Asian classmate or friends . But all we consider ourself Peruvians. That’s why peruvian food got delicious and unique flavor and colors 🇵🇪🇵🇪🇵🇪❤️❤️❤️👌👌👌👏👏👏👏
This video really opened my eyes to how much of an art form cooking is. It is an expression of cultures but more importantly, it is a testament to the importance to diversity and learning from one another.
The greatness of a nation is in the diversity of its people and Peruvian food would be inexistent if not for the influences that the Spaniards, Africans, Chinese, Italians, and Japanese have had on Peruvian Cuisine, adding to the richness of the many native groups that have existed in Peru, from the Mochicas, Huancas to the Incas and many more. Peru is not Peru without any of this different ethnic groups. DIOS BENDIGA A MI LINDO PERU, A TRUE MELTING POT.
El final me encanto parecemos japoneses peto somos 100 % peruanos . En europa conoci à muchos asiaticos y se sorprenden cuando les cuento que en Perú . Muchos japoneses o descendientes de japoneses se casan con peruanas guerreras incas .
Excellent video Congratulations !!!!! Nikkei food is part of Peruvian gastronomy ... It was born from Peruvian and Japanese techniques and products, a beautiful fusion called Nikkei food ... 100% Peruvian !!! And the fusion of Chinese and Peruvian techniques and products, the delicious CHIFA food was born, 100% Peruvian
In the video, the chef said you do not need to be a professionnel to make Japanese-peruvian fusion food still watching the video it seems very sophisticated food to me.
an interesting but random place to have japanese peruvian food is in Gardena California.there is a good but small population that all happen to live in that part of town and with them they bring their yummy food.
Pretty normal, there are Asians all over the world. Look at Chinese Jamaican, Tessanne Chin (winner of the voice) - she sounds completely Jamaican and her family has been there for generations. She is as Jamaican as any one else in the country and you can see how much they embrace her as their own by just searching videos of her on youtube. There are even Asians that have been in Kenya for centuries. They are in literally every continent / sub continent where people live. There are China towns all over Brazil and Argentina. Asians assimilate pretty well because they are generally respectful, hard working, educated, easy to get along with and make good food so pretty much everyone likes them.
Karlita daz It's not a choice they consciously make, they have no choice. If you're socialized in a country, that is what you are. Skin color or national origin has nothing to do with what forms your ego identity - it's the environment you were raised in.
They are many japanese descendents around the world (half, or not) usually knows as nikkeijin if born outside Japan, But the mayority of Japanese Nikkeijin live in SouthAmerica ( Mainly Brazil and Peru ) and goes on the same way of Nikkeijin living and working in Japan.
The Japanese bring so much to Peruvian food. As a Peruvian as well, I respect and love seeing their contributions to Peru. It's so beautiful. "We look Japanese, but we are totally Peruvian." 💯 We are all Peruvian. 🇵🇪❤️
There is also chifa cousine (Peruvian-Chinese) the incas and the asians have many things in common after all they all came from mainly the same ethnic group so it blends perfectly with Asian cousines
Because we are Christian and even if we look indigenous we also have white genes on us because of our mixture, so nobody wants to take us in consideration
Go to South America, they are all over the place there with China towns in Brazil, Argentina, Peru etc. Asians are all over the world, even in Black countries like Jamaica, Kenya, all over the Middle East etc.
Asians are all over Latin America, with a stronger presence in some countries. My father is from Mexicali, Mexico which had a significant Chinese presence. For me it is pretty normal to see Asians speaking Spanish as I have them in my family :) I also know alot of Brazilians of Japanese descent.
i don t agree with the last statement " we look japanese but we re peruvian" that means they take all the advantage of japanese receipts maker their money and business with it and then they say they re peruvian!
I'm Japanese

As a South American this was the first type of "fusion" food I was ever exposed to, thank you for exploring this cuisine.

Shouts out to the alcoholic chefs on munchies...where your slurred speech is encouraged!
Don't get me wrong, it was entertaining the first 36 times.
Very interesting topic, nice video.
Watching truly japanese looking people speak fluent Spanish is really interesting and makes me want to learn a new language strangely haha
They had to learn it because they fled their poor country, you would do the same if it happened to you
haha that's ridiculously funny!
They are Peruvians!!

Good shit my nigga
Everybody is surprised that these Japanese people speak perfect Spanish, but you need to understand they're as Peruvian as the rest of us.
Chef night out with Peruvian Chefs!!
I hope VICE does a video on Chifa cuisine :)
As Nikkei cuisine, I think it should be called Tusan cuisine, so Chifa would be used only for the restaurant. What do you think?
@@RenzoAkao I think it's unnecessary to put another name to it. Let it be called what it¿s been called for more than a century: chifa.

Felicitaciones a todos los qué hicieron posible esa gran fusión, hermano Nikkei.
Nice, never knew of this migration stream, thx Munchies xD
Oh my... that looks soooo delicious! Could there be any better combination than Peruvian variety with Japanese fresh seafood?!
Peruvian food has also a lot of seafood, that's why the fusion was so good, see ceviche which is seafood was incaic cousin and it is seafood
Now that's interesting. Thanks Munchies
incredible, they bear absolutely japanese names, look japanese, and sound and behave like peruvians
Peru even had a Nikkei President. Alberto Fujimori is his name and he eventually was imprisoned for all kinds of shit.
really? can you tell me a few examples for what kinds of shit? :O
