Been a fan since his first solo LP 43 years ago. Never tire of listening to his soulful playing. Great quality video & audio on this club date. He da man!
Been enjoying him since the '80's, Ford Bros. Band. I'm from N. CAL near where he grew up. Everyone knew this guy was genius early on. Actually his whole family.
I love this guy!!! I've played guitar for 25 years and this is my first time listening to him. Brilliant. Also love Larry Carlton who jams with Robben Ford. This guy is cool. No star just a great muscian
Blindingly good all round. I love the lead, the rhythm, the lyrics. Robben's singing as well as I've ever heard. The bass and drums groove and the keys are the icing on the cake!
@@johnmaynard3989 It's funny you mentino that, I love Pat's writing sooo much. I think he and Lyle Mays write music from another world. The Still Life talking album, and that stuff. Gorgeous.
A very kind man, is Robben: a natural gentleman. Living in Ojai, CA, we'd meet occasionally. Had a beer at his house there. He once played out in the desert in Bakersfield and invited my GF and I for a short meet and snack before the show (he was with the Blue Line then) just because he knew we were there. Occasionally he'd show up at the Buddhist group meetings in Ojai. Just one cool warm friendly man.
My God! What an artist!!!!! First class musicality that derives from knowledge without being sterile and cold ! The coolest thing about Robben is that you can not tell in which point his natural talent or his huge knowledge of music comes out!! And that my dear friends is a fucking accoplishment!!!! GO ROBBEN GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!
Don't think I've heard a better live guitar tone. Both the humbuckers and single coils sound stellar in the band mix. A fantastic talent playing, no doubt. But the sound guy deserves major props as well.
"My, my,my." - "start it up, start it up" - This recorded version lives and breaths compared to earlier or other versions Robben has done. This live small venue recording is very special to these ears - one fine groove set in the right Parisian club. All compositions are well written and very well played; it's hard to pick a favorite. Enjoy them all! Thank you for your pure approach, Mr. (Robben) Ford.
I've been lucky enough to see Robben live twice...first time was at the venue in Sellersville, PA...second in Syracuse. Drove from Toronto just for these shows and so happy I did. Scored Tiger WAlk cd at a yard sale and have been on him since. For me, Jeff Beck then Robben Ford.
@@1952FMS I've Jimmy Witherson's albums with Robben playing. He was so young and recognized at the outset of his career. I guess the A&R guys couldn't break him so they stopped trying...he should have been known to a much broader audience. When speed thrash trash gets air-play and this guy doesn't?...there's something terribly wrong.
We all know Robben's guitar playing is brilliant! I believe his songwriting is brilliant as well, everything about it is well thought out and original. Love this band, too- Brannen, Lou Pardini, keys (wrote Smokey's classic 'Just To See Her'), Jimmy Earl, bass (from Jimmy Kimmel's late night band), all fantastic players in their own right! Thanks for posting!
This concert is available on dvd. I bought it a few years ago. It's a great show. Robben is one of my favorite, long time guitar heros and influences. I listen to him regularly. Always amazing. Taste, tone, phrasing and his own blend and style of music. Thank you Robben!
I've seen Robbin twice and listened to so much of his great music and yet so often Robben and the band generate an excitement akin to hearing a great piece of music for the first time.
I read that Robben is the rare player who incorporates jazz voicings into his blues playing--and manages to piss off neither the jazzers nor the blues purists. That's some accomplishment!
@@jeffs7482 I have to disagree with not pissing off the blues purists. A lot of Blues purists I know that been to his concerts weren't too impressed. A lot of Blues purists want to hear more pronounced bending and pentatonics, like an actual Blues player.
This cat has it all, and the wonderful thing about him is he has for years passed on his knowledge freeley to the young players coming up. Real music by highly gifted people will never fade away. Bravo Maestro!
A true musician's musician: inspiring, always playing with joy and sounding great, full of soul. Thank you mr. Ford and thanks for posting. Looking forward to see a concert live (again).
The best Robben I never heard.. Unbelievable phrases touch & sound... The band is superlative too. The bassist remind me Roscoe Beck. Thank you for sharing this concert ❤
This is the first time that I've taken to listen to Robben Ford. I can say that I like his playing style. His style is nice, clear, clean and not to over driven. His notes are clear and distinctive. Some guitarists are about as much speed and flash as they can get.sometimes they forget what the purpose is of the playing, and that is to get the thought across. I guess, everyone doesn't do it the same way. Good work Mr. Ford.
With a musical grounding playing in Miles Davis' band , Tom Scott and the LA Express , and with the super talents of Joni Mitchell & Larry Carlton, Robben was always going to be all class on that guitar !
this appears to be about 2001. Louis Pardini-keyboards* Jimmy Earl-Bass * Brannen Temple-drums*. most songs written by Robben Ford unless indicated: 1) Nothin' To Nobody (with Michael MacDonald) 2) Start It Up 3) Moonchild Blues 4) Help the Poor- (Charles Singleton) 5) Chevrolet- (Lonnie & Ed Young & Memphis Minnie) 6) Tired of Talking 7) Indianola
Paul Harrison Thank you very much indeed... Louis can make the difference in a blues band ... ever.

My brother introduced me to Robben in 1994 or so. Saw him in NorCal many times as well as Cleveland and Orlando. A great listen because he gets the best players to back him up!
I met you once in Den Haag, several years ago and still I like your music very much. Your kind of music is, one of a kind, and a big challenge to "copy" the cords and licks on my Hammond organ... Thanks again for this amazing concert!!!
I’m a keyboard player...but my favourite instrument (Hammond is number 2...) is the Telecaster guitar. I think the bloody things should be considered religious relics...from Vince Gill to Robben Ford, no single instrument should be allowed the range of moods from the relentlessly music Gill, to the equally relentless musical Ford, who’s Tele, at times, screams as he rips of great arcs of solo...quoting a whole variety of other runes as he does so...without being accorded the respect and adulation of an instrument, perfectly designed and perfectly played... Beethoven’s Ode To Joy brings tears to my eyes, as does the sound of a well played Tele. Wish I’d picked up guitar at age 6 rather than piano...
He comes up with these lines that you have no idea how they’re going to resolve; and they go in a completely different direction; and it’s perfect! I don’t know how his mind works, but he comes up with brilliant stuff …
Did I just witness .. He that makes the blind see .. the deaf hear .. the lame walk .. brings the dead back to life (Matthew 11:5) ? I consider myself a tough guy .. but Robben Ford's Moonchild Blues made me cry ..
This is so damned good. He has that liquid swing in his playing. What a great sound of the band.
How could anyone not like this guy? He's just so good at all styles of music. Love his funky song...... awwww shucks!
