😮 amazing, killer 335 crisp blues playing , sweet jazz tones, fusion funk feels , lots of nuances, spaces, melodic and harmonic surprises. Master of his craft.
and the little ching ring hung on the snare damping knob is an example; Coyle gets texture in the cross sticking, not something anyone would notice consciously, but with everything else, brains respond bigly.

I liked the little smile from Larry during the applause for his son's bass solo at 22 minute mark. Must be cool to be able play music at that level with your son.
YEAH TYRAVIS IS TOURING WITH ROBBEN FORD WHEN HES NOT PLAYING WITH HIS FATHER INCREDIBLYV TIGHT BASSPLAYER I TRY TO IMAGINE THE BIG MAMA WHO PUT HIM ON THE WORLD
I'll just share my own surprise. Didn't know about Carton's bass-playing son until today so I looked this up and -- wow -- really knocked me out. Between LC's signature sound, the great bass playing, drumming, -- this may be favorite band of his to date.

Way back when......1976ish saw LC with Jeff Porcaro, Mike Porcaro and Greg Mathison at Donte's in North Hollyweird with about 30 people present. It was a regular Friday night gig for these giants. They really kicked out the jams after a week doing sessions all week. The set always started with a ten minute version of Room 335. Jeff Porcaro always played an un-miked drum set. We sat where ever we wanted. It was a magic scene for about a month. Pretty soon we were waiting in line to see the same band at the Baked Potato. One night during the opening raucous tune, Jeff Porcaro [RIP] put his foot through the kick drum head, At the end of the song JP announced to the band that he had broken his kick drum head. The other members of the band said in unison that they didn't t notice the lack of this very talented right foot. I play drums professionally and I always carried a spare. I wondered how JP would save the gig. He told the band to play a ballad and he scurried into the Hollywood night to find a replacement. In record time JP was back with a new head and within 5 minutes they were back at full strength. If you ever visit lLA and you have never been there you owe your self the pleasure of an evening at the Baked Potato ......................
Yeah, back in the days at the Spud when Larry Carlton played jamming actual fusion lead guitar licks instead of the boring mainstream jazz he decided to sadly go to and bore me to tears with ever since. What happened to the old great fusion jamming lead guitar shredding Larry Carlton? When was the last time he ever played "Point It Up" or "Tight Squeeze" in concert? This show here isn't bad it's just sort of boring music compared to those old days your talking about.
In the early '70's I used to see Lee Ritenor at the BP with his band including a great keys player I forget the name but he is legendary in the music scoring business. Those were the days.
They are just three but it seems something like there are 5 players on the stage. A great sense of harmony, due to the pulsating job of the rhytm session. Travis is an unforeseen musical discovery to me. Solid and mature and playfull bass player
I like trios like this because it demonstrates the musicanship and discipline and trust you have to have in one another so doesn't sound like a "train wreck.
Whether or not Travis let his dad play in his band is irrelevant. What mattered here is the MUSIC. This is the territory and vibration of FOREGIVENESS and ONEness with the UNIVERSE!!!!!!😊. Travis is WAYYYYY beyond the spectrum!!! BADD@$$ B@$$IST of His Time!!!!❤

Larry's beautiful guitar covers so many different tones in that set. Great performance by the talented trio. So many good moments. I loved those synchronized guitar and bass riffs. I'm glad the crowd got a little more enthusiastic once it got dark and things got cookin. I was chair dancing here at home.

I discovered Larry a few months ago. Such a great musical guitarist! This set sounds sooo good from both playing and live sound. This band is FIRE....sit back and really dig into it.
Like father like son. GREAT STUFF, so the drummer is suuuuuper groovy. Thanks for posting, Im lying in hospital and this cures me.How they stick together is breathtaking.

un jazzman qui n'oublie pas toutes ses autres racines rock, funk, pop, blues, rythm'blues; excellent; I wouldn't mind having a drummer and a bass player as he got !!!!
There’s just something beautiful and elegant about the angle at which LC holds the guitar -it’s so consistent, so solidly seated, so natural and controlled, truly an extension of his body. Watching him play is like watching a world class athlete. I can think of a few other greats whose physical form is similarly natural and elegant: Clapton, Roy Buchanan, Tony Rice, McLaughlin. Contrast that with, say, the wild physicality of other greats like Page, Hendrix, or EVH.
The master guitarist, no doubt. Larry's king. The interplay in this trio is sublime! I didn't think it could done so effectively. Without keyboards, I thought the tonal texture might be lacking, but the arrangements work perfectly.

Any guitar player knows how hard it is to find a good bassist. Larry just created his own. Genius.
He created a bassist and a half!
If you are still out there, your comment remains alive for all time.
A real Gangsta move.
Any bass player knows how hard it is to find a groovy guitarist. Travis took his father. chapeau!
Don't forget that Larry has great time, too. The three of 'em together are just absolutely groovin' to the walls!

I was as surprised as you, and didn't know of Coy either. Those three share a musical chemistry that goes beyond family ties.
The drummer is a powerhouse ! He reminds me of Buddy Miles.
The band played flawlessly during the whole show! Larry still has it at near 66 years old now,, thank God for great music!!!

People age. They slow down. He already proved himself. You seem to lack a basic understanding of the concept of time.

Like the late BB King said, "it ain't the ones you play sometimes. Sometimes it's the ones you don't play that make it right".
Miles said the same thing, and that’s the most important thing Hancock, Jarrett and many others learned from him.
Jazz-meets-blues at its best - the best of both worlds! There's so much more to the latter than just licks and bending. Big thanks to the uploader.
