Phew...........withdrawal symptoms have now subsided after watching your video. Thought you'd forgot about us Russell! Looks like a great machine. 1) Little box upfront: your head net and jacket for the flies and some spare go pro batteries for the journey! 2) Rear Storage: Tripod and other camera accessories and a Dr Pepper for when you go to Subway on your Outlander! I bet you could buy a decent aftermarket Gear Knot on amazon! Anyway now that I have forfilled my duties I look forward to your next video Russell.
PS: Please don't keep me hanging to long :-)
I am currently in the process of investigating the prospect of me immigrating to Canada and setting up Off Grid as I can't think of anything better.
I started off watching My Self Reliance but your videos are so much more interesting!

Cool, I'm glad you got something out of that. I'm planning a 1 year follow up soon. Short version: Both passenger hand shields broke off, rather easily, and the cargo box even more easily. Best upgrade is the aluminum skid plate. Also best: heated hand grips. Wow do they make a difference.

Those rear hand guards are probably that way on purpose to allow them to flex when you bump them getting on and off the machine. If they were hard plastic, they would probably break pretty quickly. Looks like you picked out a good one.

    • @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin
      @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin  5 років тому +1

I don't think they need to be hard plastic, just a second mounting point would have been a good idea.

Subscribed. Looking at an Outlander 850 North Edition. Loved your 1 year honest review.
How’s the Visco-Lok front diff been working for you? I’m looking for the North Edition to plow our gravel driveway and road leading up to our lake house. I would also be using it for around the house work. Thanks so much.

Awesome video Russ. I believe that "Bottle opener" in the tool kit is your shock adjuster. I had a Harley Davidson Sportster that had adjustable rear shocks and the wrench looked similar to what you showed. Glad that you finally are getting a helmet. Take care Russ.

Great lookin' machine Russ! Hope its everything you need on the Rock. I dig the aluminum skid plating and axle boot guards. My terrain here is not as treacherous as your trail, but I have gotten tree branches thru my plastic boot guards and tore one of them. Still need to replace the boot, but i just pump it full of grease. Speaking of grease, you should get to know where all the grease fittings are on your machine and grease them frequently since you go thru all that water. Its a simple task even the mechanically disadvantaged man can do. Happy trails to you!

The small box on the front is the glovebox and supposed to be attached where the passenger seat is behind the driver seat as stock.
Also a rear trunk tips, put a bungie strap around the shiny tip-over bar below the trunk and hook it in the rear bumper to keep it from opening accidentally if you got stuff in there!

    • @TheBibliofilus

I also thought about getting the big box but thought it was a bit too expensive and fancy.
So I got the open metal storage bin (715001215) instead, which is really sturdy and mounted some extra holders like external can holders to that and its perfect for carrying a chainsaw and accessories.

  • @MegaMadTrapper

Great review Russ. Nice choice this machine is gonna be perfect for you and Alicia with the two up option. I own a Canam Defender side by side so am familiar with Can Am, having said that I have the corded remote and my machine had a port wear it plugs in and the cord is 6 feet long, you can also get a cordless remote for the warn winchs, just so you know. One thing I did this past winter was put tracks on my Defender, we had a lot of snow and this machine and the tracks are amazing, there was not any snow condition that I would get stuck in, took a bit to get use to them but they are awesome. They are all season tracks. Cheers MT

Hi Russ, yes tracks are expensive, just wanted you to know in case you had wondered or thought about how well they work as I did before when I was considering them. The cordless remote for the warn winch is 234.99. Involves some installation work of the model but it looks like it's plug and play other than the mounting of the module itself. Cheers MT

Hey Russ, I agree with you on the rear deluxe box, little bit flimsy. If it wasn't already mentioned there is a little swing down leg on the top cover of the rear box on the left side facing it to hold it open. Not sure if you knew that or mentioned it? I have the same ATV and similar accessories. Love this beast thus far. check your front Wheel alignment, Mine was toed out 1/2" on the front left wheel and it pulled to the left. Fixed now. All the best....

If you gonna drive on the road very much I suggest you get a detachable windshield for it!!! A windshield really helps with knocking down the chill in winter & if you ever get caught in the rain 🌧 it helps with not getting soaked as bad. But the biggest benefit is keeping you from being as cold as it blocks a lot of cold wind from direct contact to your body.

I'm in the market for one like yours but seen the same issues with opening up the lid no dampener no handle etc. For $429.99 it should be better built. Just in case you are not aware, the main purpose of that small cargo box on the front rack is to fill in the void left at the rear when you remove the passenger seat. A lot of people do not know this. Makes for a level surface if you remove the rear seat and rear cargo box.

Are you adapting well to the new 4 wheeler? Can't the wizard put a handle on it?

Russel did you forget to mention the tires? They don’t appear to be stock Can Am issue.....Dynamite winch bumper...nice machine!

I did forget to mention the tires. I had the stock ones swapped out for mudzillas.

Hard to tell if you are impressed with it or disappointed. I heard as much criticism as I did good. What is your overall feeling about the machine. Kinda agree with you..remove the rear storage. A lot more space to strap things. Curious about the power of the machine is it a lot stronger than the other?

Overall I think this machine is going to do well. Just not happy with all it's features. It's 78HP, it's a little stronger than the old 800.

Very good descriptive review of the ATV Russel for any buyer of this machine. I like the 2 different keys in case you let kids take it out for a spin. My kids would destroy it in the high mode. Cheers!

I've been looking at gear knobs on Amazon. There's a nifty black and red one that looks like the handle of a katana. But it's too long, unfortunately.

I can't pull the trigger on a new one yet....did you try out the 6x6....now that's a beast....I prefer the after market cargo boxes, they are more modular...but expensive.

How are you liking the ATV overall?

It's a good machine. Definitely need the upgraded skid plate. I would pass on the cargo box, look for something after market.

Not familiar with this make of ATV (Where is it made?). Seems to me that the small front box is meant to store documents, handbook, mobile telephone etc. and is easily detachable so that you can use it like a Briefcase when you go into Subway or a Supermarket etc. I wouldn't want to ride those tyres/tires on Asphalt more than absolutely necessary. Anyway, I am only up as far as April so have a few more months to catch up to current time and developments.
