I have one I inherited from my father. It's from 1975. It was broken beyond recovery: I sent it to the German Zippo clinic (I live in Italy) and they fixed it for free (the shell) and replaced the inside with a brand new one. FOR FREE. This is really a great company that maintains its promises and takes care of customers. Congrats, Zippo
I just bought my first zippo yesterday! Im only 17 but I really hope I have this thing forever. I will cherish it and keep it closest to me. Maybe.. I would like to pass it into my son whenever I have kids of my own
that last comment "through the good times and the bad" its so true, better than family or friends, i had my first zippo in 1991, when i was an apprentice mechanic, the snap on dealer, handed me my very first Zippo, the paint has all rubbed off, the hinge is loose, but 30 years later, the little guy is still going strong and still my edc.
I recently turned 50, and I just bought my first Zippo as an adult. It brings back a TON of memories! My Dad used to carry Zippo lighters back when he smoked, a long time ago. I used to love to hang around him and his friends when they would get together to play pinochle. The house would smell like tobacco, and liquor as men did manly things. I'm so glad that I grew up in a time when masculinity wasn't seen as a threat. That upbringing helped to make me the man that I am today. I will definitely buy him one for Fathers Day this year. I hope he likes it!
I bought my first Zippo in 1984 and I still use it to this day. The hinges are a bit loose, but it still works like a champ. Zippo lighters have always been and still are one of the best American made products money can buy!
Lost some, gave some as gifts, but still have one in Zippo dark chrome finish. Can't believe it's been 20+ years and it still does what it's designed to do... light up our lives!👍😎🍻
Collecting Zippos is a great hobby. Many collectible ones are STILL reasonable in price, and unlike vintage cars or even vintage radios, Collecting vintage lighters requires little space! AND, With Zippos, One from the '40s and one from TODAY use the same "consumables" (Flints,wicks,fuel...) So they are "cheap" to "keep on the road". Plus NEW collectibles are being made! - I'd recommend it as a hobby!👍😊👍
I own about 18 zippo lighters that I have collected over 30 years. The one in my pocket is the oldest and love it . I have wondered how they are made thanks for the video also totally agree about it almost feels like an old friend ,with you through good times and bad and always reliable. Thank you
🔥 Have got 5 myself and love each and every one of them, some are even unused and unboxed. Over the years, quality was maintained and let's face it: they're just adorable. Smoking or non smoking, get a Zippo! The perfect gift too! Oldest I have is a gift from a dear friend of mine, and the Zippo belonged to her late father; it was immaculate but over the years the stamped Statue of Liberty weared off and ended up being a classical nickeled Zippo by the looks. Not too old of a Zippo, a 1995 series, she gifted it to me as a bday present and I used it till the hinge broke. Local representative for the warranty ain't very nice to answer questions and I don't feel the trust to send it to repair to them. I love that Zippo and I wish some day I can get it fixed again. I wonder if I could get it fixed if I send it to Zippo US (which is grossly expensive), but perhaps I'll do it as a last alternative.
It’s definitely worth sending it in. Zippo understands the sentimental importance of your lighter, and spruces them up perfectly. Send it in, you’ll be very glad you did, and it will only cost you postage! 🎉
@@brianbigley1986 I'm gonna inquiry with them about that possibility, but it's over 150 US dollars to ship it to the US, not so simple postage 😢 Thanks for your kind words!
I remember getting one of these when I was a lad :) dad never let me get fluid because about that time people were realizing smoking caused cancer and everyone was paranoid XD never smoked in my life though. Zippos are just really cool things to have
I bought my first Zippo in 2007. Not a smoker but I use it for the odd campfire or birthday candles, mostly though it's just something to fidget with and to look at. It's still just as strong as the day I got it. Even my grandpas that was from 1963 that he used everday to smoke when he was still around still lights up everytime and still has that zippo click. You just can't beat the simple design
That's a great one, love the authentic-to-period outside hinge. I opted for the 1937 replica as my everyday carry because it fits better in my hand, being a bit taller like the 1941 and modern style.
I'm not a smoker, nor do I use a lighter most of the time but I do enjoy supporting a great product. I tend to carry a light with me in a small "EDC" pouch where I carry small things that I may need in certain occasions. I had a disposable BIC lighter to which I lost whenever I lent it to someone and never got it back. I figured that if I where to invest on something that is well built and well respected that hopefully the next person I lend my lighter to will think twice before forgetting to give it back. I decided to purchase a Zippo lighter because I tend to do arts-and-crafts like paracord bracelets and occasional birthday candles for family gatherings. I enjoy supporting a product that is made to last and has great manufacturer support unlike most things I own today. It's also inexpensive which is great for anyone whom wishes to purchase a light that will withstand the dawn of time.
5:37 The Peaks and Valleys Spectrum is my absolute favorite. I hope Zippo makes more Spectrum designs in the future. 2004-5 were the golden era of Spectrum designs imo.
I love lighters, not sure why, I don't smoke, but, as a teenager I always had just a junk disposable one for my eyeliner when I got waxy or anything. I'm just now 50, so, that was LONG ago😬🙄 when I wore bunches of it🤦🏻♀️😊 but, I've always loved them. My husband, son and I were able to go on a track tour and after went to this awesome place full of nascar posters, cards, everything...and of course, lighters :) my husbands dream! But, then I saw this #3 Dale Earnhardt zippo, and needed it. We didn't have the money, but my hubby got it for me anyway🥰 That was probably 5yrs ago. Since I don't smoke, I think I must have let it dry out, then I'd over fill it and got fuel all in my purse and was frustrated that I couldn't carry it with me. But obviously I was doing everything wrong. I've been stuck at home, unable to doing much of anything, after a surgeon messed up and now I will never have full use of arms, but worse, he paralyzed half of my diaphragm and that crushed my lung. Recently found out it's permanent. So... trying to learn a new way to live. So, finding different projects to keep me positive instead of sinking deeper into this black pit in my brain;) so, I've been watching videos about my zippo. Loss of jobs due to this and covid mean I can't buy more flint or wicks, yes, sounds dumb, but its no exaggeration, quite an understatment actually. So, hopefully my flint is good enough, not positive how to know if it's not. I assume just no spark? I've just today repacked it, doing the s curve, hoping it would light easier, not yet. I'd love for it to light by barely flicking it like those I've seen others do, especially now that I have even more weakness, but I love the spark, flick, the flame staying on until that oh so lovely click closed :) My lid seems to be real wiggly, not sure why since I don't use it often and have kept it in a safe place since. I hope to use it more now. Hopefully it will light better... with these hands I definitely can't flick it 6 or more times for it to maybe light. I really really want to get a brass one, or a cheap or used regular one and sand down to the brass and force patina it. But, in dream world :) for now, I'm trying to learn about this one :)
That sounds like whale of an edition worth pursuing. Hope you reunite with it again. I had to retire from drumming since moving into a small apartment a decade ago, but still have that 50s Gretsch blue sparkle kit in storage...maybe one day.
This was an awesome video! It's so interesting to see how they are made. I own a zippo and I love it. They are so tough I have dropped mine, thrown it, stepped on it you name it, and it continues to work over and over again every time. Another great all American invention.
The hinges from the older ones are much better then now . 2005 armor has a Bagger hinge . Now they using the regular from the normal zippo on an armor . It is not strong enough . Please zippo. Make it a little better . Also the inserts are a little to small on top for the lid . It wiggles a lot.
I love Zippos. I started collecting them about 20 years ago. I had about 6 or so. About a month ago I found a video of a person's collection and I got inspired. Now I have 44. My goal is 100...for now. 😉

how zippo welding the steel hinge to brass ??? and why the hinges not closed (no invention after that long time)...it is the weak point /and 2 welding dots to the hinge ?
Strange thing. Yes they are a pain in the butt to fill. Yes it doesnt last as long as a bic. But there is something about a reuseable lighter that can be passed between generations. The quality is there and the warranty is awesome. I have 3. They last forever. Thinking about getting the sterling silver one. Any cigar smokers prefer a zippo?
There's not enough emphasis on the cam-spring, it's what keeps the lid in place while powering the Zippo clicks. Cam alone won't do nuts but flop around, if the cam-spring fails
A Zippo lighter is my "go to" example of a piece of "tech", a manufactured product that has been perfected There is no need to change or "update" the vital parts. It's THE example of "If It ain't broke, don't fix it." I have never had a REAL Zippo (There's lotsa fakes...) fail on me. The only reason I ever had to replace one was due to loss or theft. I have been smoking for more than 40 years. I have changed brands of cigs, NOT brands of lighter!
The gage is a little thinner,,but still best lighter made. Zippo is like Briggs and Stratton small engines?? There the same for as long as I can remember, and I’m 63 years young? My Grandfather bragged on his Zippo as well. He would say? I may not know everything but I know if my Zippo is full,,,I’ll light my smokes!! Long story short,,still the best lighters made.
i bought silver armor zippo when i was 17, and first time used it at 20, and i think someone stole it, then i bought crackle, too bad i stop smoking at 25 yrs old, miss my old day, half years ago i bought basic brush armor, when i was visit my old house, i found my crackle still in good condition, a little rust inside only. i give up smoking but i still like the clicking sound, now i just using zippo to burn incences
I've had 3 Zippo, my idiot uncle stole my first one made in 2005, my 2nd one was made in 2011 and my 3rd and newest one was produced in August of 2014, their so reliable, cool and a great item to collect!
Imma be honest, I bought a zippo, and I didn’t know how they worked so I was mad confused why it wouldn’t light. I didn’t realize I had to fill it myself when I first got it, I just thought I had to refill it after it got used up.
I have one reviously, so beautiful and strong lighter. But unfortinately i lost it. Now because of currency US $ is high so become very expensive. Greeting from Indonesia...
I do NOT smoke. But, for over forty years I have carried a Zippo (slim) along with the Victorinox SD (the smallest Swiss Army knife). I lost count years ago as to how beneficial/handy BOTH can and have more than proven to be by having in one's pocket. Indispensable, unparalleled, period. PERIOD!!!

I have been smoking for more than 40 years. I have changed brands of cigs, NOT brands of lighter!
Would love to have seen how these were made in the 1940's... I speculate there was much less automation.
Git one recently loved this thanks from india❤️💯
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for your kind words, Lee!

How much does it cost them to make a zippo
I've had 3 Zippo, my idiot uncle stole my first one made in 2005, my 2nd one was made in 2011 and my 3rd and newest one was produced in August of 2014, their so reliable, cool and a great item to collect!
What model does that guy have at the 5 minute mark? The one with the round chimney?
I think its 1936-37 model??
@ thx
0:37 she would know a thing or two about zippo lighters. Sounds like she's got a 5 pack a day voice.
Imma be honest, I bought a zippo, and I didn’t know how they worked so I was mad confused why it wouldn’t light. I didn’t realize I had to fill it myself when I first got it, I just thought I had to refill it after it got used up.
Zippo made in USA 🇺🇸👍
im 13 i will carry my zippo forever thank you zippo

I do NOT smoke. But, for over forty years I have carried a Zippo (slim) along with the Victorinox SD (the smallest Swiss Army knife). I lost count years ago as to how beneficial/handy BOTH can and have more than proven to be by having in one's pocket. Indispensable, unparalleled, period. PERIOD!!!
I'm from Ukraine. Yesterday I bought 5 zippo hand warmers for the soldiers who are freezing in the trenches.
💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️
berapa harganya
Hey, get someone over to Case and tell them to wake up their quality control. Case's fit and finish no longer justifies their prices, and especially being made in the USA! 🤦♂️
Aguante zippo
