4:06 this is exactly what i came here for, omg im so glad i found your video xD hahah, small stuff like this really annoys me, they take stuff away and replace it and we gotta go looking for an alternative, glad you explained it so well, thank you!
Gosh I hate the new shadow system so much, so much more steps just for something that can be done in 3 clicks before. More versatility and feature is great but, they should've given an option for people who only use blender in a simple way.
It really sucks that the new eve makes it almost impossible to get a good looking anime shader due to noise in random places I wish they just kept both versions and just simply focused on new eve instead of just deleting it. the new one is like cycles and I've always hated the noise inside cycles so I used eve then checked it in cycles when I wanted to see the official version. now there are ways to get around the noise for normal rendering but its like they made anime obsolete.
I heard that the old evee is will be implementend in 4.2 but the name will be evee legacy but don't happened and now is very annoying because my pc just can't handle the new evee
Some news: DillonGoo (who is a specialist in making animesque/NPR stuff in Blender) is working on an NPR prototype Blender build. I don't mean the unofficial "Goo Engine" that he had on Patreon, I mean an OFFICIAL build that you can find in the experimental branches on Blender's very site. Haven't tried it myself yet, so I'm not sure if all the "Goo Engine" features are there
omg thanksss bro soo much. im searching for this tutorial for idk.. 1 hour may be just to achieve anime toon look just like it used to in 4.1. big thankss broo
Did you tried adding an HDRI? In my Pre 4.2 scenes an HDRI + Sun Light produces dark shadows (under a car for example). The same scene in 4.2 produces bright and unrealistic shadows. Only when I turn down the HDRI Strength to 0, I get the full black Sun Light shadow. If I turn off Ambient Occlusion in 4.1, I roughly get the same look as in 4.2 but the shadows are still a bit darker. As it seems, in 4.2 the ambient occlusion "layer" is missing. Do you have similar experience? If yes, is there any solution?
Maybe you found the solution already, but for those who still have this problem, you can get a better AO activating Raytracing in render settings, and there is a section where you can increase the Thickness of the screen Tracing for the ray traced AO and the fast GI Approximation, that will make it so the rays calculate darkness deeper under the car; I use 6 meters for the screen tracing thickness and 2.2 for the Fast GI, but it depends on the scene. Also I recommend to check the World properties settings, there you can either turn on shadows for the HDRI sun, or take it's influence OFF of the HDRI by reducing it's threshold to 0.000, but in my opinion having it ON and increasing it's angle to 50° gives a better look to the scene and does well together with the screen space AO.
I had to file two bug reports because of the problems with Eevee Next. On the dev site, there are many more bug reports related to Next. IMHO it was a giant mistake from the BF to completely replace Eevee Legacy with Next. They could have coexisted nicely as in the alpha and beta versions and we would have a choice. Our real time car presentation workflow in our studio is completely broken in 4.2 and also in 4.3 alpha. 😢
I've been searching for shadow catcher option on blender 4.2 eevee, I haven't found any. Do you know where the option is or the way around this problem ?
Yes! there's an imperfect way to do it, i wish i'd included in this tutorial... here I made a quick video explaining how to do: ua-cam.com/video/4lAQzwHaaZI/v-deo.html
I personally like the grain, its so realistic. I hated the previous shadows that keep moving and accumulating by each sample to give blur effect. But its good to see old type of shadows are still replicatable

blender is made by nerds, not artists. It's like they just put needless crap in it. Like nodes... what a mess that is.
Or just put , the old evee as an option

Exactly what I was looking for thank you!
This is exactly the breakdown I needed, thanks
Man, thank you so much.
you are a beautiful soul, i love you
thank you. this is much appreciated.
thank you
@4:30 PRECISELY what I was looking for. Jesus Christ Blender... why take such a huge step backwards on this?
Where's the shadow buffer? I want to increase the cache.
thanks alot! I was wondering why I cant follow any tutorials bc the setting options were just missing

Do you know how to disable self shadows for an object?
Thanks too much!
You saved my potatoes
we must add extra step.. i think i will stick with 4.1
I am not understand why blender complex it..
Ok thank ypu but how can we make the plane as just a shadow catcher??
yes but it's not a perfect system: here's how: ua-cam.com/video/4lAQzwHaaZI/v-deo.html
@@estefez great thank you

This new shadow system is just sucks
It's insanely noisy fr
@ thankfully 4.4 is getting new npr nodes which is fun!
2 LIKES ! I pray for your health . :)
sorry to say this but EEVEE Next is terrible.... (as someone who religiously use eevee legacy)
