Don't get me wrong, I love fishing spinning reels and Baitcasters, but it drives me crazy when people for no apparent reason throw shade on one or the other.

As long as you’re catching fish it don’t really make a shit. If it works it works
Yeah seen some guys catch giant fish on a 15$ setup from Walmart I think it's the person and the lure that matters also the weather
I like bait-casters but something about the spinning reel just gets me
I mainly use a bait caster but it’s 7’1 so when your fishing around other people you have to be really careful and I’ve only had it for 1 year so I get birds nest very often so I always pack a spinning reel just in case
I use baitcasters but sometimes I like to use the good old thumb reel it goes so far with any weight I don’t get why people don’t use them they are very easy and your hand don’t get wet from the line on those cold days
Just picked up a Zebco 404 I don't give a crap what people say on windy days when I just want to drop a worm down it's a great option to have.
Got that same little rod and reel, the American hero. Never took the time to learn how to use one but have been progressing, still have a neat here and there but still dig it
ive been using an abu garcia vengeance 7'11 medium heavy and an abu garcia ultramax reel for about 3 years for topwaters and medium-large swimbaits and i respect your choice of rod for this application. keep up the videos i love watching em!
i use a lews xfinity speed stick spinning combo for finesse / trout fishing
I use both in the saltwater. My spinning rods are more useful and I use them for light jigs and weedless soft plastics, and the baitcasters are good for heavier jigs and other lures. Spinning is better for casting out live bait or cut bait and letting it sit while I cast some kind of artificial.
That lews american hero is my favorite combo i have gotten and definitely worth the price
Love the videos keep it up
I use a spinning reel for frogs and it works the same with maybe a little less distance on a cast, but if I want to cast far out I will just kayak out.
I use both spinning for catfish or bottom fish Baitcaster for snakehead and barramundi 😅
I’ve always used spinning reels but tried a baitcaster recently n there’s just something satisfying about throwing a baitcaster. I can also cast quicker since I don’t gotta line the string up to the pole n worry about if I left enough line
Had some dude tell me I was using the wrong lure for a lake/ time of year not too long ago. I kid you not, not 2 minutes later as he’s still talking to me I reel in a pretty 1lb bass. I’m sure he was trying to be helpful but goddamn lemme fish what I wanna fish. Idc if it’s wrong. If it works and it’s legal I’ll do it.
Hey! What are some of your favorite spots for Bass fishing in Massachusetts?
They can kick a big rock! I like spinner and caster. Bfs has been major fun
Got that same camo lews combo, thing is great, just got a new kastking reel today gonna try it out tomorrow with a spook. Top water only haha tight lines man whooo!
Taking your cast control knobs off is a terrible idea. 1) leaving the spool bearing exposed like that is going to result in dirt getting in it or water rusting it out. 2) the max loosest you want that knob is where you can barely feel the spool move side to side; by discarding the knob all together, you're going to get a lot of side to side play which will reduce your distance, not increase it.
I can cast farther with a spinning reel , plus can also do a lot of finesse fishing with it . I have baitcasting reels I also use.
But , I use spinning reels or round baitcasters much more .
Can you do a video on how to put line on a bait caster
Hey what type of baitcaster is that you were demonstrating with
Spinning reels are just better.
Unless some situations where you’re catching a huge catfish or something…
It also depends on body position . Sitting in a kayak or a person pontoon , float tube You get less fatigued using bait casters. Spinning rigs in those situations cause you to constantly hold he rod in a more elevated position.. walk-in the super spook with spinning gear is very comfortable when you standing.
I have the same as a group in a ride his mind is spinning reel
Longest distance records are set with baitcasters not spinners
I like this video. Especially talking about people putting other fishers down. Fishing can be done successfully with a bamboo pole and 3 feet of line. The modern convenience of reels, lines, lures, boats, kayaks and more are all amazing and fun to talk about and use but don't let anyone act like you aren't doing it right because "right" is incredibly suggestive and in reality 9/10 times they are just trying to show off their money.
Incredibly SUBJECTIVE too...
Could I use hard baits on a spinning reel because my baitcasters rod broke so I have to use a spinning rod for now
Like spinning reels, baitcastors come in all sizes. An ultralight baitcastor can cast a 1/16 oz lure, IF you know how to use it.
I just bought the American hero! What lb test should I use for it
Personally I run 30 lb braid.
Ok. Thank you I need to buy the line for it so I will try getting 30 lb
That diwa bg 3500 reel is niceee I love mine, my mate caught a 20-25 kg nz yellow tail kingfish on his so around 45-50 pounds :edit nva mind I just looked at mine and we have the 6500 so it’s a big bigger but you’re one is still really good
Which have better drag?
I pretty much exclusively use spinning reals
Spinning reel for life
Lost your spool tension knob?
Good advice 😃
Thanks Jacob!
@@Tackle2thePeople you got it
What kind of braid do you use
I use a baitcaster for fishing finesse because that's what my baitcaster is built for.
It really Is just a personal opinion, what length bait caster do you use when your kayak fishing for pickerel and bass?
How do you walk a bait?
I always bring both. I also have BFS baitcaster set up that I have been getting into for my ultralight adventures.
It's a baitcaster reel specifically made for finesse. BFS= bait finesse system
I must say that the BFS is good fun. Thats what's most important about going fishing. Having fun and enjoying your surroundings. I notice I never catch fish when I get annoyed or start out mad. Perfect examplenwas last night. My wife caught a monster right off the bat, I wasn't pissed but I wasn't even getting a bite. After she got 4 more fish I was annoyed. We were using the same lure even. I only caught 1 fish all night and she caught 10. There is something to my belief.
@@ericpettyfishing about the bfs reels, is it just a normal baitcasting reel with a lighter spool or are the brakes different too
@@scorkmc Centrical clutches make a big difference.
Pretty much its a super tuned system for the bass guys to convert to trout. Some bfs reels are so good u can throw flies. Its started in japan for trout but when it came to the states its mainly used for bass fishing.@@scorkmc
What is the spinning combo?
What size spinning reel do u use
I use spinner and soft lure on a fly rod
They now make baitcasters that can throw finesse tackle,, BFS
Lures won’t sink slower in the water using a bait caster because if you want you lure to sink it’s best to let it sink on a slack line. If you let your lire sink on a tight line for either spinning or bait caster the lure will pendulum toward you.
If you use a baitcaster with completely loosened tension settings as well as pulling your rod tip up at the end of the cast you will be able to not pendulum your bait even in deeper water like 30-60 ft.
What’s the name of your kayak
Hey I need help, I’m an Australian so I don’t freshwater fish but I have a baitcaster and it’s jammed because when I can’t wind with it the crank handle on the reel will not move
It’s probably a freshwater reel that’s gotten ruined by saltwater, honestly it’s more work to try and fix it. If I were you I’d just buy another reel
@@Aaronjames2007 it’s not a freshwater reel it’s made for offshore jigging
@@cfaadventures3280 I mean he didn’t say whether the reel was salt or fresh, assuming it was salt he could have just bought a crappy reel that “advertised” for salt
@@Aaronjames2007 no trust me it’s a very expensive reel by shimano made especially for the type of fishing I do
@@cfaadventures3280 oh my gosh I’m such an idiot I thought your first reply to my comment was someone else🤣😂 that’s why I was thinking how did this guy get so much information out of a vague comment
Baitcasters work great for lipless crank baits over 1/2oz. I noticed that even with heavier spinning rods, I have trouble getting good action from lipless crank baits. I use my spinning reel to throw Ned rigs, light mimic swim baits and small spinners
Ur spool tension knob is missing how can u control casts
He uses his thumb
Hey guys, as long as we're not using spincasts we're doing good..
I know the video is old but I feel there's an objective reason to use spinning reels over baitcasters. Line capacity is sooooooo much higher. Never again wonder what that fish was that stripped you out at max drag. Of course it doesn't really matter if you're just freshwater fishing without carp, cats or blacks in the area annnnnd bait casters do have that satisfying clicky click bit so...
I got a new spinning rod but can’t reeel can you help
For some reason I can cast my baitcaster way further than my spinning reel.
I'm so with you on this.... Every point of it. I had this argument too many times. I love both types but I know the difference.(s)
I use spinning rods and reels and there great for everything. Castin is good for catfish though
POV one is hard to use the other is impossible
Ummm yup
Both are great I have a xheavy lever drag shimano tld25 you can cast it but it takes like 4+oz to even get it going I hooked onto probably a 50+ lbs fish with my medium heavy spinning the other night and wish a ihad my x heavy with me :/ the fish ended up cutting my line
Why does none of his baitcasters have tension knob
They do have a tension knob that determines how freely the reel will spin. Go online and watch a UA-cam video about baitcasters and how they work they just take a little practice.
@@DarkmanRides what? I own multiple bait casters myself and know heaps about them 😂 your ones are missing the cap for the tension knob tho? The thing that adjust how fast the line comes out, yours are missing?
@@RileyMcElwain sorry I misunderstood you looking at the video again I see what you're talkin about.
@@DarkmanRides yeah all good 😂
He took the knob off the black bait caster in the video also...seems crazy to me also.
Who has a ZEBCO 202 ? Maybe a 33+, the pan fish rig.
What spinning reel is that?
and sure enough
This is false. You can finesse fish using a bait caster. It’s all about the setup and adjusting your drag. Example you can 100% finesse with a medium lower fast action rod and a bait caster like shimano 7:5:1. Pro anglers finesse fish in tournaments with baitcasters all the time.
A spinning reel can do anything a bait caster can do if you know how to use it. Can’t say the same the other way around..
I wanna learn how to use a baitcaster
I hate to say it, but a spinning reel all day! Only because I'm lazy and hate the birds nest, rats, and the ball of frustration! You get it! Spinning reel is just easier!
Baitcasters are good but I don’t know how to use one and always end up with a bunch of tangled line😂
I learned with abu Garcia bait caster XL and I get tangled with spinning reels lol... I just untangled my spinning reel to try it again
I used to stay away from them because i tangled it on my first throw. Just need to make sure you gently stop the spool with your thumb when the lure hits the water🤝
Ok but no tension knob???
Whyy
I like it free. Use my thumb to completely control the tension
@@Tackle2thePeople Damn, that’s impressive
@@thecarnut9899ore likely he lost it.😂
That is the craziest line I've ever heard...he must be a fisherman. There is zero control between different weight lures without that knob to control the spool. You click that trigger and if your thumb ain't on the spool with that knob off, you are looking at a birds nest from hell.
EDIT: He took the knob off the black bait caster as well! If you pause the video at 0.46 you can clearly see he took the knob off as well on this reel as well.
MY APOLOGIES, YOUNG MAN. I still think is isn't wise to do, cause you're exposing the inside of your reel to debris and moisture. But hey its your reel.
@@Tackle2thePeople You're hurting your distance by doing that. At the loosest, you want to barely feel that spool move side to side. The more that spool moves side to side, the more forward momentum you're losing. Not to mention there is nothing now keeping dirt or water out of that bearing. Even worse for distance than side to side movement is a rusted or dirty bearing.
spinning reel is better faster stronger
Spinning reels can do most everything. Baitcasters are specialized for heavy lures/power fishing.
And gives a bit more control of the bait
BFS all the way! Spinning reels are a thing of the past!! Jk but I do enjoy bait casters more 😅
This guy probably never did any pitching baits in his life. Cause if you want to finesse a bait and put it in a hole NOTHING WORKS LIKE PITCHING A BAIT CASTER!
I can literally put a jig in a coffee cup 9/10 times at 30 feet... skipping a bait...now that is a whole different story.
10 yards is pretty short?
@@kevinerbs2778 I usually practice during commercials...lol
Wife gets pretty pissy if I’m pitchin down the long hallway.
sheesh
bro, the spool tension is gone?
Spool tension is unnecessary
Bfs fishing boi
Ur a lefty. Thats neat
Buy a not dirt cheap baitcaster and learn how to adjust the brakes on it... Have no problem casting 1/8 oz lures on a baitcaster
That’s kind of risky using bait on carpet 😅
haha very true! thankfully it was a frog so no snags
@@Tackle2thePeople lol
@@Tackle2thePeople it sucks trying to get the hook off the carpet
Can you please hit me up with a bait caster because right now I use a push button
I think baitcasters are like more freshwater and spinning reels are more saltwater
Bro one reel give me plzz
and sure enough
