- Two Rare Gold Pans Put to The Test!
In this video, we're putting two unique gold pans to the test in the great outdoors. While the beta pan is a staple among prospectors worldwide, flat bottom gold pans are typically found in western countries like the USA, Canada, and Europe. Traditionally made from wood for its affordability and availability, today we'll be using a modern twist on this classic tool - an XP pan, a westernized version of the beautiful traditional gold pan.
But that's not all! We'll also be testing out the "pancake pan," my custom ABS plastic disk. The goal? To see just how much gold my new little flat pan loses compared to the beta pan. There's no better way to put these pans to the test than in the field, collecting gold and black sands.

My promotion is a give away, I may not have been clear about that, not everyone is getting $300 worth of stuff for every order.
A random person will be drawn from all the purchases between the 11th of June and the 30th. They will receive the $300 pay-dirt, pan and crystal prize.
There's seems to have been some confusion over that. Hopefully, that makes it clear.
I've just read this comment. Happy days mate, that's extremely generous of you 👍🏻
I just wanted to ask you how difficult are the slobber bags?
What would you rate the difficulty from 1 to 10
@@weekendwarriorprospecting817 they vary in difficulty from easy to very hard. Depends on where I dug it from.
dwc? drunk wank cry? what does it stand 4 in your lingo?
Just commenting I like the hat cam Arms always get in the way with chess camps I don't win anything anyway so pass on to someone else thoroughly enjoy your videos
Sorry 2 texts I hate word processing it changes everything all the time
I'm glad you have now got a bucket sponsor

Bruce buckets, the best buckets on the market.
A bucket is a bucket is a bucket does it matter what brand it is as long as you can do your work you're good to go
@@wp.sworld.s Not really. Some buckets are of better quality but for one use any bucket will do. bruce buckets aren't on the market.
Hi Chris, Chris here. Your vids are so fun. Thought I’d have a play with an old steel plate and a small garden shovel. Where I live I have a river at the front and another at the back. Knowing I had 0 chance I did find serenity, the sound of the water the swishing of my “ pan “ so therapeutic. I’m calling it a win. Might be getting myself a beginner kit. 👍
Yes...DO IT!😊 I have a creek too, but I live in Florida 😕
That's the way to do it mate. All the old timers did exactly the same thing, used what they had.
Between You, Dan Hurd, Pioneer Pauley, Buckshot and Mount Baker mining and metals and a few more, your channels are the best of the best for mining and prospecting! It makes me regret living in Florida where there's no gold!
Thanks bro!
There's great fossils in the creeks though. I know a guy who found a mammoth tusk. Smoked the pieces in clear water for a couple a months and then stabilized the pieces with a resin and sold the pieces to knife makers. Made roughly about ten grand. I got two pieces and made six knives and the mammoth tusk handles were absolutely beautiful. The different minerals in the ground that they were buried in leaches into the ivory and makes some beautiful colors. And all from north Florida
What no buried Pirate Treasure?
Or is that just in the Carolina's?
Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
The Melbourne in Florida and points all the way south has 500 plus years of shipwreck treasure washed onto your seashores, beaches, barrier swamps, lagoons and islands.
Try magnet fishing as well as using a metal detector, but they'll not snare gemstones nor the flour, flake and granule gold that had spilt from their shipwrecked barrels. Check some videos featuring Gary Drayton, and if someone can explain why he sounds like he's got a bit of an Aussie accent among the Pommy. Good luck, I'll take 25%.
Gabi, also from Melbourne, Down Under!
Have you tried the water?
You make the video any way you want and I will watch them, Have a wonderful day!
I love it when you get the potato pan out. Lots of love from an old English lady…..
😊 thank you, it's a real fun bit of kit
About thirty years ago I had a girlfriend named Lisa, but she went by Lupin. Love of my life. Your name put a knot in my throat and a tear in my eye.

Thanks for sharing this video mate, a funny thing happened while watching this video on my phone, when you were using your flat pan i noticed after a while that i was swirling my phone with you. Totally unintentionally i can assure you haha 😂. Keep up your terrific content Chris, thanks heaps 👍🏼
Thanks Chris! Go Bruce!
Thanks Chris
No problem
A very good result, the flat pan is a good product, may it make you a million $$$$$$$$ wicked ❤it 😊
I'd be happy with like $50
Another good one Chris. Thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
Love the batea pan process. Hypnotic.
Me too!
Still love your videos 5 years later I know you're going to cut back on them eventually to follow your dreams which is awesome I just hope you continue to put some out you're my favorite Gold Miner on UA-cam thanks for letting me follow you Chris
Well those professional gold panning pans are virtually flat for competition use..
Well I finally got to gold prospecting in Victoria for three weeks and just posting videos now..
Cheers Famo59 👍🍻⛏️
Nice 👍
Just bought an old mouldy pancake after watching this (effective marketing haha). There's beach gold near here which is very fine and "light" , similar to your paydirt. It's very difficult to process. The pancake could be the go.
If you' ever get bored with regular creek gold, beach gold is a whole other beast. Same but totally different.
Another great video !!! And kudos to Bruce, Bringer of Buckets!!
As always Chris great job I always look forward to seeing your videos.
Thanks 👍
Personally I like the hack cam the chess can your arms get in the way of everything but all your videoing is always excellent work
howdy from hangtown california. im not only a miner.im a pro camera man. i had the great opportunity to be part of the film crew that broadcast the 2016 world gold panning championship live from el dorado county california. i got a real close look at panning experts from all over the world.some teams were using pans i have never seen before. one pan was flat called a venturi pan and it worked very well. the team from south africa was very good and impressed all of us old timers so i think your flat pan has potential. i will order a couple and see what the local miners think about it.and yes i will put the reactions on my channel
Love your flat pan(flan), how's the 100 buckets going? Top shelf loved the view.
Almost done
Little does well in the clean up. Good stuff 😁👍
Interesting and informative video Chris thank you. It highlights to me just how much thought went into the Garretts when they invented them, and what a boon to SWC's like me they are 😂
There's a fair amount of engineering in a gold pan
Would you agree that one of the biggest drawbacks of the Batea pan is the need for greater water depth (to make them effective) than other gold pans.
I say people try to fight them . I found rotten one at the old chineese Digs dryed up cheek . Moved 15 or 20 foot .
Like every pan on the market it has its issues.
Big shout out to Bruce for coming on board as a sponsor of your channel Chris 🤣🤣🤣 Keep up the great work mate love the content 👍🇦🇺🦘
Love the Channel, thank you.
Glad you enjoy it!
I love the walkie method
Well I have a Garrett super sluice so I guess I chose that one but of these two I definitely would be going with your pancake pan...To me its so much more carry effeicient and works exceptionally well and easily....you can't use it in a puddle but hey I live it Wales its almost never dry here
My argument is, it works and it's fun. It's not for general prospecting. The garrett is perfect for that and my circle is a companion.
@@VoGusProspecting makes good sense to own two completely different pans imho, and two very good ones at that
We want some more!
Great vid as always Very informative 👏👍
Thanks 👍
i havn't ever saw a "FLAT" pan before, this is interesting.. ty for doing this video. the other is awesome :D
Cheers for the vid Chris :)
What I would really be interested to see is... run the tailings from the betea pan through a sluice and see how much that pan lost... I'm sure its good, but it might give you info on how good your technique is!
❤ thanks Chris will revisit my bateau pan with your technics can't find tub big enough for circulation technique i first tried in my cowboy bathtub😅
Yes. Spot on.
Glad you think so!
Chris, from experience I know that unless your camera has a gimbal, a chest rig will be more shaky. You do fine sticking it to your old and moldy hat. That is unless a Yowie makes a run for you, then nobody gets to complain.
Nice pieces
Thanks! You should see the good pans.
Great vid😊
Nice Potato Pan :D
Mate i have your jumper on 😂❤😂
Bruce ❤
Parker's Trail in Bolivia, the local guys use the exact same method, with the Batea pan. Is the Turbo pan is based around the Batea pan ,has the dimple in the middle, but has concentric riffles
I bought something keen for the gift thanks Chris -dom
It's not a gift mate, prize draw on June 30th.
Seeing that the panning style of panning is different for the peta? Papaya. beta..... potato pan, do you still have to scuff up the pan?
Very awesome video Chris, as usual. I have learned a great many things watching you. I would really like to win one of your offerings. Search your feelings you know it to be true. Luke, I am your..... Oh crap, wrong channel. I am going to the old mouldy to purchase some more slobber.
Nice 🎉
Thanks 🤗
DWC.... that's me🤣🫡🤙
Me too brother
I finally feel like I belong to a group.
That's just one flake out of about 30. That's a very respectable recovery to loss ratio. Keep the experiments coming.
Who makes that flat pan?
Me. It's on my website. Www.theoldmouldy.com.au
I would like to order, but do you ship to the Netherlands?
I do ship
@@VoGusProspecting awesome, i'll check the shipping costs and will place an order.
Love the promotion 👍
@@VoGusProspecting do i need to enter a code for the promotion you mentioned?
I have that big blue monster. I can process so much more material with it.
It's so good, but damn heavy
Pan optics, optimal comparison, Chris.
Just a quickie, does commenting on other's comments, as long ss they're nice, help with the following or primary comments are best? Cheers, Gabi
Any and all
By the way, dwc stands for Deal With Caution. Rather appropriate actually, and hopefully not something that will offend the censors.
As much time that you have spent panning gold!cant believe that commenters seam to know more?baffling! You have so much more experience than about 99.9% of the rest of us wannabe prospectors. If you say its so,then it is true!
Dangerous game to play thinking you're the best. Good way to let your blidspot turn into arrogance.
Comments are great, most of them are not for my benefit but for those who may need that information.
@@VoGusProspectingI've panned a lot. Ive got about 3 hours of experience! What were the racist comments you thought you'd be seeing
Does your promotion on your website apply to Canada? Or Australia only? Thanks
Worldwide
it feels like from as a american pretty much every river/stream in your area has gold. whats the % of rivers/streams with gold?
In my area basically 90%.
DWC?
Deal with caution?
Deal with confidence?
Don’t wanna cry?
Don’t worry child?
Are you going to do a tin smelting video at some point?
You could improve you pans efficiency by putting an anticlockwise spiral groove so that when you're swirling it in a clockwise direction all the heavier material is pulled into the centre whereas the lighter material washes over the groove.
Playing with the groove depth, shape (think about 'riffle' shapes for low pressure zones I.e. 'saw-tooth etc) and spacing between the spiral is what would take R & D to see what works best for the size of gold in your area.
People who prefer swirling in an anticlockwise direction would need a clockwise spiral.
Think of a 'Fibonacci Golden Spiral' or the type where the spiral is evenly spaced out all the way out?
... just a thought but would be unique and one you could call your own? lol
1% kickback sounds fair 😆 🤣 😂
Fuck you're up early fella
Where do you get the little flat pan ? Cheers
We make them. Www.theoldmouldy.com.au
@@VoGusProspecting This pan could be what I have been looking for. To pan my dry wash samples while looking for the mother load. Water is a premium in the desert
Pan arrived. Cheers for the Coin
Your pancake pan, if you had some straight ridges that angled inward… Hard to describe… Swirling over the ridges clockwise would move heavies inward and your panning off motion would remove the light materials.
That's exactly how it works
i choose the 2nd... i just started the video... but statistically speaking.. its the 2nd one shown.
❤
Chest rig is gunna be way worse and feel like we tea bagging all day 😂
BRUCE FTW.
In a full 8 hour day of panning what would you say would be Acceptable loss
5%
5% or less
@VoGusProspecting ok thank you brother now is that with any equipment or just the pan
^5!
It’s just a type of hat! Like a “baseball cap” or a “cowboy hat” nothing racist about that!
I was wondering what he was talking about. I was so very confused about "racist remarks". Is there a slang word that they call it?
Look up names for the hats of 1800 era chinese immigrant workers....you should find plenty of 'perjorative' nomenclature.
Me, I agree--especially here in California heat, the transport of batea pans upon ones head makes actual, solid sense and frees a hand for your shovel or drink. Was about 103°F today, so believe me, I know!
Hi Chris. 11.04 with your amazing camera view and your beard hanging down between your legs kinda looks like the film clip, utterly utterly rotten to be ginger. 👍
💙💛
Thanks mate
Who makes the worst pan 😅?
Meeeee!
@@VoGusProspecting potato pan...
teflon frying pans....veggie oil sticks to them and gold doesnt...you can't pan with a teflon frying pan....Ive tried its rubbish
Here I thought Peter made the worst Pan
@TalRohan- I found an old wok with Teflon. Sand papered it clean and had a Batea pan with handles that stuck above the water.
@skildude- I hit the floor rolling my butt off. That's the funniest response in the comments I've seen in years. I think you might have won the internet dude!

So far I haven’t seen any racist remarks. None at all!

Hey bud..
2 pices😂
Whoever makes the first gold magnet 🧲 will be one rich mofo! And yes I know a gold magnet is impossible because gold isn't magnetic but the impossible happens often and you never know what the future holds.
Actually, using a magnet to pick masses of magnetic black sand out of stream beds also picks up fine gold which is pinched between particles of black sand. ua-cam.com/video/sG4L3hZPnnA/v-deo.htmlsi=qpR9G9epoeriEh2Z
So basically, a pan without riffles. Far out.
If you are thinking about moving to Canada I am selling my house for $2.2 million Canadian
This is a racist comment lol
