    I have a huge amount of fun on my GSX8S with it's 80ish BHP, have never once felt it doesn't have enough for road riding. 80bhp is way more than I need on an ADV bike, especially one with knobbly tyres, but then I only probably use 25 of those BHP on the trails and have never maxed out my Tuareg on tarmac as it gets sketchy above 90mph.
    Torque is far more important on the road, smooth joyful silky torque... but you also need enough revs/power to not be dancing on the gear change constantly.
    Monkeybut's 10 is gorgeous, as is his Busa.
    That visor looks AWESOME in the evening sun B-)
    I love how the V Strom looks, it is one of the best daily riders out there... all versions.
    I like bike, so am happy with all powers... but, yes, 80-120 is a bloomin nice range of horses!

      Exactly, the 8 series of bikes from Suzuki is a great example, definitely better road bikes than the inline 4s they're replacing, but all of them would probably suffer the same as the Z900RS on track then, horses for courses. Haha for a proper ADV user absolutely, my VStrom is a tarmac princess :P I have found some gravel roads I'm eyeing up tho.
      Absolutely, and/or wringing the neck off the poor thing if you end up on a motorway.
      Monkeybutt has some absolutely delicious bikes.
      Haha thanks, it's also incredibly good at keeping my face less melted.
      I love it man, so happy I got one in the end, when I bought the CBF I NEARLY bought the same Strom at home, glad I tried it.
      It is indeed! Maybe we should join forces and open a 80-120bhp bike dealer :D

      @TheGorillaBiker  13 днів тому +1

      I'd wonder though how often you used that power, I'd like to get a dyno graph and then monitor where abouts you lived on there most of the time :) A lot of people do much prefer lower down torque as it rides "easier". I need to conduct experiments.

    Horses for courses. I loved my FZR1000 on the road. My wife and I toured France on it, but having raced it, it was never as enjoyable on the road because you could never really use the engine. UK speed limit was 70 and the FZ would do 70 in first travelling like a missile. It was neither sane, safe, or economic to do that. If you spend your life riding in the city you don't need the same bike as someone doing motorway miles. The 250 Keeway I have now is tremendous fun in the city. Rarely get the chance to go above 60kph, but it is great fun getting there. An of course bikes are banned from motorways here
    For you Kawasaki the real fix would be a different gearbox...🤔
    Another interesting ramble around the strange streets of your new home . . . . 👍

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  13 днів тому +1

      Sorry for the delay, I was at a wedding in Ireland!
      Agreed, normal use on the road is VERY different to normal use on the track. Those FZR1000s were absolute beasts, I'd still snap up an FZ1 if I ever saw one around. I can imagine after using it on track basically idling everywhere wouldn't be super fun.
      Agreed, I've often talked about use case but people tend to get mad at me when I suggest looking at a bike that they'd actually use more and so be happier with. Banned from motorways? Is that due to the fact they are more often lower displacement?
      Yeah, I've thought about re gearing to make 6th obsolete on track also.
      Thanks :)

    Interesting topic Michael. I have just gone from an older Fireblade to a new NT1100, 100hp and it goes quicker than any speed limit here and in a bit more comfort then the Blade. I've not once come back from a spin thinking it was boring. If my right wrist gets heavy it flies on the country lanes. If I bought a modern superbike I would have no licence within a week. Thinking of adding a CB1300 to the garage, again more torque than out right power.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  13 днів тому +1

      And I think that's the case more and more with modern bikes too, you'd find it VERY difficult to find one, big or small, that is not completely capable on the road in a decent riders hands.
      I feel the same about the Tuono V4, I'd LOVE one, and could technically get one if I sold the Z900RS and Vstrom.....but I'd just get deported.
      Oh yes, beautiful bike!!

  • @RoadsOfOz
    @RoadsOfOz 18 днів тому +1

    I find that 100HP is more than enough for on the road. I normally prefer a twin cylinder where the mid range is strong as that is where you spend most of your time in the rev range. It explains why i kept the Griso for so long (until recently).

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  12 днів тому

      Most people I have ever talked to agree tbh, like can you use more on the road? Sure, but I rather save that type of riding for a more controlled environment, just too many wallies on phones now. Agreed again, I think the Vstrom has been the best touring/commuting bike I've ever owned, just so easy to ride and is plenty of fun when I want it to be, I kind of like the challenge of it when I want to push on a bit too.

  • @iananderson1422
    @iananderson1422 17 днів тому +1

    one hundred percent agree. 80-100 HP on the road is plenty. I get what you are getting at with the power for track. Here's a left field idea. for track. Yamaha MT10. I test rode one at my local dealer. I thought my FJ-09 was fast. The MT 10 is an Animal. Definitely a license loser for me. So it can stay in the showroom. The CFMOTO Ibex is working very well as the V-Strom replacement. But the Yamaha still puts a much bigger grin on my face. Though I don't think I could do 5- 600Km days on it

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  13 днів тому

      It's just plenty to be faster than most things on the road and comfortably cruise at not go to jail speeds. Yeah I'll probably always feel like I don't have enough :P I've ridden one!! Absolute animal but it still has the downsides of being a naked, I miss the handling and whatnot of the GSXR, sportsbikes are just built for that stuff. The 10 would 100% lose a lot of licenses :D
      Glad to hear it! I've only been hearing good things about them tbh! Yeah I can imagine it's less playful than the Yamaha alright. Looks heavier too, just visually I mean.

    • @iananderson1422
      @iananderson1422 11 днів тому

      @@TheGorillaBiker definitely heavier. I think the fun factor or less of ot is more a result of the way the KTM delivers power. It's all top end. The engine is lackluster under 4k rpm where the FJ has more low end torque. I'm going to look at a 2018 z900rs on Sunday. It is owned by a much older rider I met a couple of weeks ago who has to stop riding due to issues with his sight. Bike looked to be mint with 6000 KMS on it. His asking price is a bit high but that was just shooting the breeze figured. So I may be joining the rs club👍

  • @markfortin8286

    I think the obsession with power, or size of bike, has done real long-term damage to the industry here in the US. The prevailing attitude has been that everyone rides for the same reason: performance. What matters is that people ride what they like, and what they're comfortable with, and for what they're looking to get out of it. I've spoken with several people who say what a revelation it was for them when they finally rode something smaller, after being pressured into riding supersports or big baggers because that's what their friends were riding. For every person who does make that switch to something they really enjoy, there's probably a handful that just give up on riding, or have the bike sit in their garage unused.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  13 днів тому +1

      I agree, except I think it's in most places that use larger displacement bikes, and have more disposable income tbh. Definitely worse here though. I have very little in common with a lot of riders local to me for instance as they all just go on the highway and do pulls.
      Oh 100%, I have that conversation with so so many people, especially as I ride a lot so people ask me all the time why I haven't bought a "proper 1000cc" yet. I have no need for one and it would just get me arrested. Smaller, lighter and more nimble has always been more fun for me. Very good point on it might turn riders off bikes altogether, same thing with an 800+lb cruiser, it's too heavy for a lot of people.

    I wonder how we talk about hp in 10 yrs. This year , it’s mandatory to have speed limiters built in , in all new cars sold in Europe. When will it come to bikes. What happens when the computer won’t let you go over 70 on the motorway or 30 in the 30 zone. Hp isn’t an issue then . We will talking about how many mpg of hydrogen or methane can we get out of our hybrid 2 wheel pod . Or we just take the bus. 😅😅 😢😢

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  12 днів тому +1

      I saw that, it's currently for warning you you're speeding. I genuinely have never understood the abject hatred most normal people have for speed. Like done in the right area no one even knows you've done it. If it can be installed it can be deleted is all I'll say :D I'd never buy or ride a bike/car that was actually limited like that. At that point just end me, cement flippers and go for a swim job.
      I think I'll be figuring a way to run my old carbed bikes on an alternate fuel at that point :D Or going for a swim.
