I have owned two Defiants over the years. My first one lasted over 30 years and is still serviceable and workable. My second one is going strong. Both heat 2550 sq.ft. in 35 below zero weather here in central British Columbia, Canada. I burn dried birch, pine and fir exclusively. Any definition of a perfect wood stove or a perfect product line would have to include Vermont Castings. Nothing else comes close. As a welder and iron worker I can tell you why this stoves construction is superior to almost all others.
