Oh my God, it is so classic that William couldn't resist taking over your video. 🤦♀🤣 I really appreciate this, thank you. I've had a 1977 VT Castings Vigilant since 2009, and never understood what those levers did haha.
@ I have a Defiant & this Will be my 3rd winter with this stove. I had to buy a new catalyst this year. You are supposed to get a longer & cleaner burn with the catalyst & very little smoke out of the chimney.
its a cat stove. you open the air full at first with the cat door open then you shut the cat door down when the cat gets active then you shut the air down and let the wood smolder and the cat burns the smoke. look up more vids you will be happy if you run it right. I have a blaze king 40 classic and have been using it for 10 years only heat source I use in the little mountains of somerset pa.
Thank you. I've had my stove like yours for years recently my mate passed so it is my turn thanks for the help
Glad it was helpful. So sorry for your loss.

So many levers! Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the stove, but I don’t think it should require quite so many moving parts.
Thank you for this! I am considering purchasing a vermont castings defiant soon. Are you able to boil water on it? Thanks!
The griddle portion gets VERY hot. Should be no problem to boil water, I cook on it a lot! A tea kettle boils quickly.
How do you like the catalyst?
Honestly I can’t tell the difference.

We’ve run the stove with and without and I don’t think there’s much difference.
