We're getting this one before this winter. Like most products, the people that complain are the ones that are using them wrong.

    Great review!
I'm looking to buy this model come spring 2023, my house is 1600 Sqt, plus I would like it heat the 2nd floor.
Would you be able to tell me more about your experience with your stove?
    Thank you,
    Brad.

Can you tell me how the blower works? I was thinking of getting one for mine but not sure how where it blows the air through. Or is it just a blower that blows the heat off the stove? Thanks if you have a video. It would help. Thanks

How is it working now that you have had the chance to use it?

William, I have this exact same stove and wondering if they have fixed the back puffing of smoke into the house. Does not happen a lot but maybe 12-15 times a winter. You wake up in the middle of the night and smoke smell so bad I have to open windows and turn on the attic fan to suck it out. The gases build up in the fire box and they create a small fire ball inside and out comes the smoke. Mine is 17 years old but looks just like yours.

There's a description of back puffing and how to deal with it in your manual that came with the stove. Page 28 in our manual. Basically, insufficient draft is the cause (or most likely the cause). You may have to take steps to increase the draft by alterations to your stove pipe and/or burn drier wood. I'm assuming you already know all this but others reading these posts may not.

Question. Where did you get the exact fit oval to 6" pipe. Thanks. Looks nice.

Got the same stove and really like the hearth pad it is sitting on. Can you please tell me where you bought it or did you have it custom made.

Great looking stoves but a must to avoid.

Is it indeed 'safe' and do-able to clean the ash pan while burning the stove as they claim?

    • @PolLlovet
      @PolLlovet 2 роки тому

Yes, but I just scoop it into a bucket instead of removing it. It's a long walk outside with a hot pan, and it's safer/easier to scoop. It also pulls a ton of air into the stove, so if the stove is cooking, it will get really hot when you open the ash pan. I clean the ash pan when starting the fire, so the extra air accelerates the start.

@@PolLlovet I guess I've answered the question myself. Now that I've been burning this stove for over a month now I've found it easy to clean the ash on the fly: I don a pair of welders gloves, open the ash door, remove the pan manually (w/o the pan cover) shut the door tight and carry the ash outside. When I come back in, I just reverse the procedure. The bottom ash door is only open a few seconds each time and I have no problem with flare ups. Burning clean, cured hardwood, I only have to empty the stove about once a week and it's never completely full. But thanks for your advice!

@@mic982 I agree that it works really well. I don't understand the Defiant critics out there who seem to imply that it is trash. It's the best wood stove I have ever owned.

@@PolLlovet I'd tend to agree with you on that. It's also easily the best looking stove out there. But the top-load and bottom dump feature are, hands down, the two best features of this stove, outside of its rugged cast iron build. We're very happy with ours.

Yes. Ours burns for months straight.
The best part is no dust in the house!!!!
That cover is the best part ever.
Woodstoves are a dusty mess to empty.
      Not this one.
