- Hotpoint Aquarius Washing Machine Detergent Drawer Compartments & What goes Where.
Whenever I do a wash I always forget where to put liquid detergent and fabric softener in which washing machine compartment. In this video I will show you what goes in which compartment in the Hotpoint Aquarius Washing Machine. This should also be the same for the Indesit & Whirlpool Washing Machine similar models as these are the same Manufacturer.
So if you keep forgetting then this will help you with which compartment to put the washing powder\liquid detergent in.

How hard would it be for the manufacturer to just write it on?
Obviously it’s impossible 🤦🏽♀️
They do on the Samsungs, which I have at home. I'm here because I'm in a cottage with a Hotpoint and trying to figure out what goes where lol 🤣
I agree!
This man is doing God's work
Thanks. Vaya Con Dios 😎
Legend he is
By misinforming people? 🤔
Love this!
I've had this washing machine for 11 years and, with my fairly light usage, it still works perfectly. Good stuff.
That's a good innings these days!
Just in case you're interested, the same drawer is used in indesit washing machines (which i believe are made by hotpoint) and the useless compartment has a removable tray that is used for adding bleach for heavily soiled clothes.
same one ive got! looks exactly the same
Without a mother videos like this are essential, thank you for the help 😂
No problem, glad that I could help out, I only made it coz I forget!
Just moved out and using a different machine to the one at home. This man has saved me 🙌.
Marvellous. Glad I could help. 😎
@@LurgsHowToGuides I've just spent half an hour looking through piles of tiny worded information, trying to find out how to actually put detergent and fabric softener into my new Hotpoint. Shedloads on 'insurance' (surprise surprise) but nothing on the detergent drawers! Thank you so much.
@@janepurcell6747 Glad to help out. 😎
You’re brining the videos for the unknown. Thanks a lot 🔥
Thank you. Glad to help and hope you had a fab weekend. 😎
Brilliant! Just what I needed to know.! Thank you.
Marvellous, glad I could help out. 😎
Thank you for this! Vanish Oxi Action called to be put in the ‘detergent’ slot and, using laundry pods, I have never had to work out which one it is. So helpful 🙂
Great news, glad that I could help, I always forget myself! 😎
Absolutely what I needed. Cheers 👍
Great stuff. Glad I could help. 😎
Can’t believe I’ve been using the middle drawer for four months hahah. Thank you for this video!
Glad I could help. 😎
No help needed, in 95% cases it doesn't matter where you put the detergent, because the machine runs water through both of them in sequence before starting the main wash cycle.
And me for years 🤦🏾♀️
i seriously can’t thank you enough for this video
No problem, glad it was useful. Happy Easter.😎
Thank you for this! We are on holidays in a unit in Australia and you helped me work out where to put everything. So helpful, much appreciated, thank you 🎉
Ooh very nice, I love Australia. Enjoy your holiday. 🇦🇺
Thank you ! It my first time in Europe and this video helped out
No problem, glad my video helped. Enjoy Europe 😎
This is not true. The smaller compartment is for pre-wash detergent or for bleach or any other agent used before the main wash.
If the program you set does not include soak or prewash, then the machine will pump water *through both compartments* before starting the main wash cycle.
Therefore if you don't use any fancy multi-step wash programs, you can put the detergent into the smaller compartment instead of the bigger (outer) one and still be fine.
It's easy enough to check yourself by pulling the drawer open while the machine is taking in water to see where it is going. If you open it several times you'll see that it first goes through the smaller compartment and then switches to the larger one.
I had a panic thinking I've been putting detergent in the wrong spot for years. Thanks for clarifying for a busy mum ❤
Yeh busy here too, non stop lately for me doing my real job and UA-cam and helping family move houses! It’s crazy busy
Lol I've had this machine and been using it for five years and I've been putting my powder in the small compartment. I thought the big one was for when you do a pre wash on hot for whites 🤣🤣🤣 it's only because I had some plumbing done and my soap was still sat in compartment, I watched where the water comes out. It does come out into the small compartment first on quick wash, bit then the remaining times it's the bigger compartment. I figured go look on UA-cam there's bound to be a video~ How funny. See it's like one man's rubbish is another man's treasure. You just never know when a bit of info is useful to some, when most would think really!
So thanks for your vid, I appreciated it. 😘
Thank you for the great comment, really appreciate it. Inspires me to carry on making helpful videos.😎
The small compartment is a pre wash. Large compartment is the main wash.
This video tells you wrong info. He says the middle compartment does nothing. You also know that’s not true from what you wrote.
I’ve just double checked the user manual for this model and my Video is correct!
Maybe some other models use the middle compartment for pre wash but not this one.
@@LurgsHowToGuides thanks for ur explanation...helped someone like me....Really dont know why some pple can't just move on if they don't agree with ur pov, after all its not like they are paying you to give them the info...

Yep I've been putting my vanish powder in that one.... darn it.. thanks
Me too for over 5yrs~ different Aquarius but same draw. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
So helpful ... have wondered for years! 😆

Thanks ! I'm helping grandma with laundry today and I hadn't got a clue! I agree with the comments below. Why couldn't the manufacturer just write it on!!
That's kind of you. Grandma's are the best. Have a lovely time. 😎
I've had the identical machine for the past 15 years, all except the capacity (7Kg - Aquarius WMF 760). So I decided, in view of what some Asians have cited as their reason for suicide: the GEC (Global Economic Crisis), to find out definitively, where my powder and liquid go. This video is spot on. Not only have I been doing it right - by pure luck I add - but I now know, thanks to "Lurgs" that the middle compartment does Sweet FA. I don't use softeners, or even Fairy, as it's too effeminate for a bloke like me, stuck in the past, unable or unwilling to change, believing a woman's place is in the kitchen, while the man has his feet up next door while he watches the footie. But best of all I like to post daft comments that make people so angry they can't let it go, and they have to reply when some other idiot suggests firing squads for LGB + alphabetty spaghetti, burkas allowed on passport photos, convicted paedos as classroom assistants. I say to them, "Hey, cool it man, they're trying to rub you up the wrong way and rile you." But do they get the irony and sarcasm? No, most don't have English as a first or even second language, so they miss the nuances and humour that's all around us, if you know where to look.
Well in mate

The middle compartment has a removable tray for bleach. You can buy this independently to use for the "Whites" washing option. The bleach is then dispensed at the correct time during the wash cycle.
Cheers!
Thanks most helpful 😊
Nice one. Enjoy the weekend 😎
@@LurgsHowToGuides That little middle compartment was so confusing 😄😀
On some higher end models it is the pre wash that’s why it’s there I think
Been putting conditioner in the middle one

Great stuff. Thank you so much, really appreciate it. Have a marvellous weekend. 😎
Ive been filling the middle compartment with laundry detergent for years now I wonder if it's caused any damage to the machine itself
Unlikely. Sure it's fine.
Oh my God i always put the powder in the middle one too thats why it was build up in the main pipe and got block for years lol had to call plumber yesterday and found chunks and chunks of powder detergent in the pipe and smell was awful
Oh dear. Probably best to run this ASAP > ua-cam.com/video/NbOUDxk7Yxw/v-deo.html

Hey are you able to do a “what happens if the fabric softener compartment fills up with water after a wash” ? I’ve thoroughly cleaned everywhere but it’s still happening. Thanks
I've got a generic one which may help here ua-cam.com/video/BRuuaDI_URU/v-deo.html
So I’ve been washing clothes wrong my whole life 😂😂😂😂

No problem, glad to help. 😎
The water isnt emptying from my conditioner compartment. I've tried cleaning the jets anything else I can try please .the conditioner empties but leaves water ? Xx
As long as it's not full up, if you've just got a bit of water in there then this is normal, does it on ours as well.
Always leave dispenser drawer slightly open after a wash (and drum door) to help ventilation.
@@LurgsHowToGuides its full up 😔xx
Oh dear, how odd. Sounds like the downpipe inside might be blocked up with gunk? Remove the dispenser drawer and check inside and give it a good clean again. Hope you can fix it. Good luck
I thought the middle one was for a pre wash? But never used it as I put my stuff in the drum! Lol!
It definitely isn't on this model a I checked and double checked the manual. Yeh putting it in the Drum stops the Dispenser drawer getting all dirty and mouldy.
Can you remove the dispenser of this type of hot point washing machine cuz ive been trying to figure it out
Emili Askovic Indeed you can, link here ua-cam.com/video/ML5JgFcS4jI/v-deo.html
Can you use powder detergent? Ive put mine in the right compartment but it doesnt get used
Yes you can but liquid is better. If it's not dispensing it properly you could put it straight in the drum with the laundry.
No matter how much fabric softener I use I can never smell it with this washing machine. Mines brand new, never had an issue with my typical fabric softener with my previous washer. Can someone help pls?
Being a male who knows nothing about this thing, so googled it. Now i know thanks to you. Cheers
Funnily enough that’s why I made the video as I always forget! Glad I could help.
@@LurgsHowToGuides used it again today.. hope it’s not becoming a habit 😉
Back so soon! Glad to help.....again.😀
I believe that the small middle section is for prewash.
That middle drawer is so pointless also I have just put the monthly cleaner powder in and I watched the water come into that pointless section first then the water comes and empties the powder drawer. Would it be a stain remover section or something? I have the Hotpoint NM111046 and it is so loud! I don't overload it, it's stable but still loud. It's not a year old and I've had engineers out 4 times already. Great size don't get me wrong but my god it is loud!
I think on some models they do use that middle drawer as a pre wash but not all machines have a pre wash, maybe yours does. Odd it’s so loud. We now have a Bosch Serie 4 which is very quiet
@@LurgsHowToGuides thanks so much for replying! Yea there's a prewash setting although I've never used it. They had an engineer round 2 weeks ago updating the machine brain 😂it's not even a year old and had parts replaced already. When I read the reviews people were saying it was quiet so I jumped at it but it is so loud! Great drum size but that's the only compliment I have sadly
Thanks the manual is vague. I couldn't work out where to put powder and shoved it in the fabric softener grey area. Oops.
Glad to help out, I can never remember myself! 😎
I put stain remover to that smaller drawer 😀
seriously?? the middle compartment is for absolutely nothing? I actually put some soap in the bit and it actually washed the clothes. But if it's actually not for anything really. I wont use it anymore. thanks for the informative video. it was great.
I believe on some other models it is a pre wash but on this model there is no pre wash feature
Same, the middle one takes the soap powder away better than the actually soap powder bit, that's the one I use 😂
I just got a brand new hotpoint washing machine but the fabric softener container is always filled with water. Do u have any suggestion how to get rid of the water?
If it's brand new then that has to be a fault. Normally it fails if there are blockages but there can't be blockages on a new machine.
If you figure it out let me know.
@@LurgsHowToGuides will do, thanks.
Save TheUmmah Could be the fabric softener is too thick and it’s not getting flushed through properly.
The conditioner part doesn't have anywhere to go, so it's just sitting there. Im so so confused, the detergent compartment you can see runs into the machine but if you lift the blue bit up on the conditioner part, there is nowhere for
It to run??? Can someone please explain this, im so confused. Ive had conditioner just sitting in the draw for months and cant work out how it is even supposed to get into the machine
It will get flushed through with water so maybe it’s broken or your programme isn’t doing a conditioner cycle
Do you have to remove the blue lid of the fabric softer compartment? And what setting does it have to be on, thanks
No you can leave the blue lid there. Fabric softener is usually added to any standard wash near the end before the final rinse.
My softner side keeps filling up with water after every wash...any ideas?
Try the tips in this video to see if that helps ua-cam.com/video/R5xIKjWuAIg/v-deo.html
The fabric softener compartment in mine appears to be clogged, water is constantly over the max, what can i do?
Remove the dispenser and give it a really good clean, and inside. ua-cam.com/video/x1E_gBvOtCw/v-deo.html
@@LurgsHowToGuides perfect thank you!
How do you make it dry the clothes? Wdal 8640
Not sure, this one is a washer only. A fast final spin will always help before drying them
@@LurgsHowToGuides oh ok, this washing machine is confusing 🥲
Cheers mate was stuck
Cool, glad you got it sorted.😎
I always put washing powder I the extra compartment. It does use all of the powder by the end of the wash cycle. Some suggest this is pre wash. Page 10 of the Manual doesn't explain what this is for 😮😮
Can I remove the blue lid and keep it off or does it need to stay there ?
Yes you can remove the blue lid (see here ua-cam.com/video/ML5JgFcS4jI/v-deo.html), it's just a level indicator but leave it in.
Lurgs How To Guides maybe a silly question but why does it need to stay in?
Abbie Stephens Why remove it though. The level indicator is useful and also when it dispenses the softener the jet holes above are probably angled specifically to that design. I’d leave it in.
cheers lurgs
No problem mighty Prince, happy to help. 😎
Question mark dept in drawer is for bleach when you do your maintenance wash twice a year.
Steve McCann Never heard that before and it’s not mentioned in the manual. How odd. I never use bleach just washing machine cleaner on hottest wash. Cheers for info
My drawer compartment looks same as yours ,my question is why doesn't take my fabric conditioner anymore?:(
Possibly the washing programme you are using doesn't use that, or the jets\holes on the roof are mouldy or blocked up. Or the conditioner is too thick.
The third compartment is for bleach on the identical looking Ariston 129.
It doesn’t matter where you put your stuff, it all gets rinsed out from the top of the drawer at the same time and is sent down a hole under the drawer into the machine at the same time on my machine.
Sounds like it’s broken. Fabric softener should be the last thing dispensed before the final rinse and drain.
I always wonder what the middle compartment was for!
Me too! And then I forget and have to watch my own videos! 😎
@@LurgsHowToGuides thank you for taking the time to post your advice.. they really help dads like me that are balancing home schooling, DIY and working from home... thank you again...
is it okay to put bleach in the fabric softener compartment ?
I've never put bleach in a washing machine so can't comment I'm afraid. Bleach is pretty toxic.
I lifted the blue part up. Where the fabric softener goes in. Only to find it leads to nothing. It has no holes or open walls where the liquid could possibly go. Strange.
It’s the tube at the back, I think it flushes out through there
@@LurgsHowToGuides the tube is approximately an inch high and the hole is at the top of that. So I wonder how it would get into that.
@@NisarAli-lp7xm it flushes water through it, but yeh it does seem odd but it does work!
Where would Pods go, where the detergent goes I assume?
Put all your laundry in the drum and put the Pod in the middle of the laundry inside the drum, easy peasey. No need to use detergent drawer
What does that “extra touch” bottom do?
What part?
@@LurgsHowToGuides there is an 'extra touch' bottom on the top right part of the washing machine
@@moniquetian5140 Not on this one I can’t see it?
What part would you put vanish powder in with the detergent?
Not sure. It should say on the Vanish instructions
Where would you put Calgon tablets?
I think you put them straight into the Drum with the laundry, it should say on the packet somewhere.
